Women's rights sometimes seem kind of abstract to those of us living in the USA.
Of course we abhor the acts of violence perpetrated against women by abusive partners but those are the criminal acts of screwed up people. In the US, Equality Now is basically seeking to strengthen protections already in place.

The following, horrifyingly graphic, video shows an alarmingly widespread, systematized assault on a gender solely because of their...gender. Many of the video images shown in the video have been seen before in still photo form:
the Taliban soccer game halftime "show" of executing blue Burka clad women or the video phone recording of the 17 year old girl stoned to death for disgracing her family by dating the wrong man.
The scary part is that this systematized violence is being brought to America and the right to commit gender-specific violence is being argued on the grounds of religious freedom.

I don't know how much sway Equality Now can have in countries like Iran, Pakistan and India; but I sincerely hope that Equality Now considers maintaining Womens' rights advances in the western world a priority.

The video graphically depicts womens' rights abuses that are described as action items on the Equality Now website, such as FGM.
From the Equality Now website:
It is estimated that more than 130 million girls and women around the world have undergone genital mutilation.

So, the next time you have the opportunity to attend a Serenity Now/Equality Now showing of the BDM, know that there is much use for the funds raised.

Actually if they'd get off their butts and get a coordinated hookup with RAWA, they might actually be able to be of immediate help, but we got a language barrier problem goin on there too.

Find us some translators, and be patient, they've no love for the USA and precious little trust in our promises, rightfully so...

But the potential is there if we can crack the language barrier and keep it cracked long enough to get some coordination goin on, it sure don't help that my last english speaking contact with em was "collateral damage", neither.

Google 'Sharia Law USA' for a wide range, from fringe to mainstream media.

There were rape rooms in Iraq, should W get a pat on the back NOW, or is he still a lying Nazi? What do you want us to do about this that does'nt involve some kind of force? You put the problem on the front page and yell, SOMEONE SHOULD FIX THIS! Asking them to please stop doing this wo'nt work. You have to point a gun at them tell them to stop, and if they do'nt you better be ready to pull the trigger.

Hello,

I believe in encouraging people to solve their own problems, not in overthrowing their governments and instituting our own 'best practices.' I doubt very much that we have greatly improved civil liberties in Iraq, and I'm quite confident that many Iraqi's feel an uncomfortable pain in their bum that comes not from native rape, but from foreign interest rape.

I much prefer to focus on making sure that civil liberties are not trampled here, as that would be us solving our own problems.

Hello,

Geezer,

I have been able to find a lot of frothing editorials about Sharia Law being implemented in various places, including Canada. I have found no hard information, however. Perhaps you can help me to wade through the agitated opinion pieces and find the real, factual news?

Rape is not policy in the US, it is a criminal offense.

What the video addresses and Equality Now opposes are instances where violence against women is policy or defacto policy.

Okay, I've had a chance to watch the tape.

THIS is F*CKING NEWS TO YOU?????

Where were YOU when the muhajideen... those "brave freedom fighters"... took over Afghanistan, threw out the Russians, imprisoned women doctors, teachers, and lawyers, forced them to wear the Burka, and imposed Sharia law... with our help? And what about those Saudis, eh? Mentioned many times in the video. I read a true story over 20 year ago about a family that tied stones to their teenage daughter and drowned her in the family swimming pool for "dishonoring" their family. And yet Bush manages to be a close friend of the Saudi Royalty.

And now you get all pissed because some fucking Zionist decides to jerk you around? Your selective outrage is worse than stupid, it's dangerous and immoral.

That include Abu Gharib, or Gitmo ?

Don't try and shine me, neither - there's footage of it, if not available to the peons, prolly bein passed around DC like a freakin pornvid for the Neocons to yank it to, but yeah there's proof, they admitted it when they blocked the release of those tapes - which of itself makes some sense (see also: Genarlow Wilson), but they've also refused to make them available so that the perps in question could be prosecuted.

I got a problem with ANYONE doin this crap, and that includes us, no free pass for anyone.

Also includes them, but you cannot bomb a problem like this, and dumping money on it won't solve it neither - you need to get folks on the ground and support the locals who are against it, or it's pointless.

And here we are, supporting the fucking Taliban in the name of "law and order" which is, yanno, so more important than peoples rights...

It's insane, is what it is.

I have no outrage at issue.
I just found something, rather by accident, on the kinds of human rights abuses that Joss Whedon's (and by extension the Browncoat fandom's)favorite charity was created to address.

Visit the Equality Now website and complain to them or tell Joss his charity is "worse than stupid"; I don't care.
I just posted this because every year, around Joss' birthday, Browncoats gather in fairly large numbers and raise tens of thousands of dollars to support Equality Now, which aims to protect womens' rights, including the offenses detailed in (your quote) "some fucking Zionist" video.

Its only info, do with it what you will...

Even in America, the liberals are protecting crimes against women in the name of "cultural diversity".
The Hmong community has traditions of courting where men abduct and rape prepubescent girls and declare them "wife" as their accepted practice and courting ritual. I know in Madison, WI this has been a problem, and liberals have been reluctant to have them conform to civilized laws of this country.

Just pointing out the movement doesn't need to be focused solely outside our borders. Not all women are protected by our laws.

The silence over Islamic injustice over women has been nothing short of deafening here in the U.S. and across the Western World.

Sig, you're way out of line here. Completely out of line. A subject was brought up here, in good faith and consciousness, which happens to be right in line Joss's pet cause. What difference does it matter that " some fucking Zionist " is the messenger ? Are those little girls and women any less victimized or dead because of it??

Talk about slaying the messenger..... just day-um.
