I wonder if kids will still want to grow up to be Astronauts after they read this?

Hello,

It certainly doesn't sound palatable.

But this is a necessity for any long-term space projects. And if it makes you feel better, all water that we drink here on Earth is also recycled. You have probably, at one time or another, sampled some water that was once excreted from a living creature.

Well, I never heard about stocking up on water. What I DID hear was about picking up "grav supplies".

Hello,

I assume they did recycle. I think a culture with a retractable toilet would be into getting the most out of their resources.

As for 'grav supplies,' like most Whedonesque 'technobabble' could mean anything. Joss didn't go out of his way to explain how things worked. On the few occasions when a character talks about technology, they do so in such a vague way that what they're saying is up for interpretation in the ears of the listener. It was a jarring change from Star Trek, which had accustomed me to a much more precise brand of nonsense.

Grav supplies could mean anything from 'supplies to make gravity devices function' to 'supplies we get when we visit gravity' i.e. a planetary body or station.

I'm assuming it was "supplies to make gravity function" because they had gravity on the ship, even in deep space.

See?

You can take that position, and rightfully so. Meanwhile I could take the opposing position, and say it was a colloquealism for re-supplying in general. And neither one of us could be proven right without writer confirmation.

On the other hand, in Star Trek, when they channeled high-phase plasma through the dilithium crystals and routed it to the Deflectors while reversing the variance to produce a steam of chronitons, you knew EXACTLY what was happening.

I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

"We did blind taste tests of the water," said NASA's Bob Bagdigian, the system's lead engineer. "Nobody had any strong objections. Other than a faint taste of iodine, it is just as refreshing as any other kind of water."

Two things --- it has GOT to taste better than the heavily chlorinated skank water that comes out of Lake Erie in the summer, and, that faint iodine taste would go much better with the peaty, briny taste of Islay single malt scotch. Also, I've read that lox makes a great food complement to the Islays.

Do I want to be an astronaut after reading that ? Well, if they lay in a supply of sms and lox !

This may be the reason that one lady Astronaut went nuts, remember the one who put on a diaper, and drove non-stop from Texas to Florida to kill her lovers wife? Maybe she drank the recyceled pee?

If you're talking about when they first landed on Persephone in the pilot episode, Mal told Wash:

"Fuel her up, grab any supplies we're low on."

I still want to be a an astronaut!

I'll drink recycled pee and whiskey if that's what it takes to live on the space station. Recycled water is a necessity in most space adventures.

Lox and whiskey? I must try that some time.

As much pee as we piss. All gray water is recycled for consumption, cooling, and lubrication uses. About 3 years? What's the current going rate for the Manned Mars Mission?
