I have a vote and I'm not afraid to use it!

I HOPE Obama is our hero. I suspect, though, he is a lot more conservative than most people know.

But I was thinking about evildoers - and well, since impeachment isn't going to happen, maybe some after-the-fact investigation by Justice (or by a revived Special Prosecutor role) is in order.

Will that happen ? I'll wait and see.

But more importantly, without impeachment or investigation/ prosecution, how do you keep this from happening again ? I suppose you could pass laws making signing statements, rendition, 'enhanced interrogation', government 'data mining', privacy invasion by corporations, non-federal government, etc illegal. But there already were laws on the books against propaganda, warrantless wiretaps, unreasonable search and seizure, for habeas corpus etc. And where did THOSE end up ?

Will more laws fix the problem ? Or do you need to set up automatic congressional investigation triggers so that these severe breaches of constitutionally guaranteed freedoms don't exist at the current political whim ?

That amendment should prevent the President from pardoning himself, past President's, and members of a Presidential cabinet, past and present.

I'm not sure anybody wants to make that statement, but I wonder who would vote no on that, and what reason they would pull out of their ass for opposing it.

Umm, Wulf, this whole thread is just facetious chain yanking to piss off those so partisan they think the guy is the antichrist or something even though he ain't even taken office yet.

Fact is, he could be a good president, or a bad one, and we the people, if we ever got our shit together in a major way, could MAKE him be either one.

Enough of the public wanting something don't necessarily make it a good idea, but while I do not care for Obama, I've never once called him stupid - he ain't.

So, we'll see - he's gonna be busy for a while anyways, we're sending him a mop and bucket on the day he takes office as a pointed reminder he has a hell of a mess to clean up before formenting any of his own ideas, and he better make it A-1 priority.

Meanwhile, we'll be working with the JFPO to firm up opposition to any idea of crapping on the second amendment, and snaking some of our own hooks into Bidens people.

Notice how fast that old bastard turned near-invisible to the public eye ?

He's a lousy public speaker, and plays to it with obfuscating stupidity, but Obama is the velvet glove, and Biden is the iron fist - he's smart, scary smart, and he knows how shit *works* down in DC, enough to grease the right wheels and dump sand in the right ones and get it done.

Think Rumsfeld, but more competent and discreet.

Haven't seen too many people saying he's the next coming, at least not in earnest on these boards, it's more, "thank God for a change!" Election night I hoped for Obama - he's unspoiled by years in Washington (some say inexperienced) and so unexpected/different that he's going to get everyone's attention. We need that now, everyone's eyes front and focused.
Whatever, either way it was a win. McCain would have been honestly fine with me, just not my first choice. Feels like we have turned a huge page no matter what.
And I watch enough sports to know you don't talk smack before the the end of the game, so I'm not saying he'll be our saviour. His first press conference was a C+.
