I have to admit, I have a small brain, all of you are rite. I know this because I went Christmas shopping today, BIG MISTAKE! Even tho I got alot done, (like the HESS Truck for my nephew) I had to make my way thru the maze of shoppers. I found out two things, 1) The economy does not suck, WAL-MART and other stores were packed. 2) I like pain, could have waitted a week or two BUT NO, I HAD TO GO TODAY! I have a paid day off, I could have stayed home and watched the Cartoon Channel BUT NO! Did any of you make the same mistake I did? I bet I was the only one dumb enough, I'm going to drink a few beers and fuck a bagel!

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I really find the whole bagel sex joke to be distasteful, and worse - quite stale. I'd be grateful if you could find it in your heart to remove it in the future, perhaps finding a new and interesting comedy line.

In regards to Black Friday, I would imagine that the tantalizing lure of post-Thanksgiving sales are prone to be more appetizing during rough economic times.

Personally, 95% of my shopping was conducted online, because I abhor thick crowds of shoppers.

(Or should that be crowds of thick shoppers? Both may apply.)

Sorry if you do'nt like running gags. As for shopping on line or from catalogs, if it's broken or they send you the wrong thing, (like a bagel) it's a bitch to return or exchange.

Wal-Mart worker dies after shoppers knock him down

A worker was killed in the crush Friday after a throng of shoppers eager for post-Thanksgiving bargains burst through the doors at a suburban Wal-Mart, authorities said.

At least four other people were injured, and the store in Valley Stream on Long Island was closed.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in Bentonville, Ark., called the incident a "tragic situation" and said the employee came from a temporary agency and was doing maintenance work at the store.

"He was bum-rushed by 200 people," co-worker Jimmy Overby, 43, told the Daily News. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too. ... I literally had to fight people off my back."

Nassau County police said the 34-year-old worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m. The man's name was not released and the cause of death was not immediately known.

A police statement said shortly after the store's 5 a.m. opening time, shoppers "physically broke down the doors, knocking (the worker) to the ground."

ETA: Gee, wonder if Wal Mart took out "dead peasants insurance" on the guy?

BOOOOoo!, imma throw popcorn at ya for that one!

I really dislike crowds - if you ever wanted to get a taste of what hell is like, go to a crowded shopping mall on black friday or the day before xmas and try to get some shopping done...

From a wheelchair.

Trust me, you'll lose a lot of faith in humanity that day - and come back with a strong appreciation for my sentiment that the damned things ought to come equipped with an electrified bumper bar.

I usually do any shopping I need to in the wee hours of the night, given that most of my new work is done at night anyhow, and it solves that other people problem quite nicely.

Actually, I've never gotten one of those plates, and have no intention to.

Now I could say there's folk who need it a hell of a lot more than I do, and that's true, sure - but it ain't the real reason, cause the real reason is a bit ridiculous, but important to me all the same.

You see, as an ex-cabbie, and just normal life, I drive like... a lot, ok ?

And 98% of the people I see with that damn plate...

DRIVE LIKE MORONS.

Can't maintain their lane, do 12 or more miles under the limit, don't signal, fail to yield, don't pay attention, you name it, and they freakin DO it - and no one ever dares bitch cause they think that being handicapped excuses that shit ?

Oh hell no! - I drive just fine on one leg and factually my reaction time is a hell of a lot better than most folk cause I *ain't* blasting the radio, shoving a cellphone into my ear canal, trying to text someone or choke down a happy meal, it's friggin negligent to pilot a massive chunk of steel at lethal velocity and not pay attention to what the hell you're doing.

But the worst of the worst I've seen on the road.. *hiss*, it's gotten to where I will actively AVOID drivers with one of those plates cause I *know* they're about to do something stupid or dangerous and prefer not to be in the vicinity when they do it, look, I'm all for folks overcoming disabilities, but NOT at the risk of the general public, if you can't fucking drive, then DON'T - get someone who knows how or can actually do so instead of wandering all into my lane and endangering me for the sake of your friggin pride, curse it.

And so, no, I will NOT get one of those plates because I refuse to voluntarily associate myself with people who cannot be trusted behind the wheel.

Sure, it's a somewhat irrational pet peeve, but it's MY pet peeve and I mean to keep it.

Damn, that felt good to express for once.

HKCAVALIER

What gets me is the headline on the Google home page reads, "A busy Black Friday at Walmart" followed by this lead: "Big crowds were generally jovial at the discount retailer, though one worker died..." What the heck? Is Google totally in the tank for Walmart or something? This is horrific news! Someone died because they got in the way of people shopping! There is something seriously wrong there. But, gee, thank goodness the "crowds were generally jovial..." Who's to say the folks that stomped this poor employee to death weren't jovial? It would be great if journalism as a whole stopped sucking at some point.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

A comically bad example of journalism, or at least of writing talent. Someone needs a new editor.

On the other hand, I find this weird dual view to be prevalent on these very forums from time to time.

"Happy, Freedom-Loving Americans Liberated another Country today, though a few people lost their civil rights..."

The small, "Oh, by the way, not that it's important" angle to certain pieces of news that the rest of us find to be vitally important. This whole sentiment is the source of many arguments here.

Amazing what happens when you spend an hour not subjected to the liberal mainstream media, heh? Reality can sink in quickly at times. But, hey, there's a recession going on, remember? - Dan Blather's cohorts said so, just like they did at the end of Bush I in '92.

Oh I could, JSF, but really, why ?

That's where my personal philosophy comes in.

See, I do have a prosthetic leg, although it has a limited duration and I have bad days - but generally for a store run I'm ok, and even when not, it's not like the added exercise of rolling the chair another hundred feet or so is gonna do my lazy ass any harm.

I am a bit of a stickler for not leaving myself in a situation that could go bad - that's why my prosthetic is fully mechanical rather than myo, cause if you lose battery power, then yer humped.

Same with ramps, access points/doors, all that rot, you become dependant on that stuff, you *will* eventually find yourself hung out to dry the day it ain't there - like an old building with no elevators, for example...

Me, I have one good leg, the knee ain't all that, but I've built up enough strength to compensate, I can indeed fold the chair and lug it up the steps by carrying it in one hand as I use the railing or higher steps as pivot points with the grip of my other hand, short-hopping on the one good leg, if I have to.

I did however learn a couple lessons about leverage in the process of creating tricks like that, lol - being 5'6" and maybe 130lbs soakin wet with boots on, it doesn't matter HOW strong you are if you don't have the weight, reach and bulk to apply leverage to somethin.

Thus for some things I just ain't physically *large* enough to apply any force effectively, unless I change the angles at which I happen to be applying it.

I might have looked ridiculous under the back bumper of the car shoving it straight up with all three limbs as the girl pulled it out of a snowdrift that day, but we'd not have gotten it out trying to straight push it, that's for sure.

One of the merits of being such a stubborn jackass about it is that you're never likely to wind up... helpless.

LoL, although it did get me kicked from a disability support group, that attitude - they didn't want help, they wanted sympathy, a shoulder to whine on, and frankly, that's a game I just don't play.

That's not a very liberal thing to say, but if Long Island was to float off into the Atlantic, I do'nt think it would be missed.
