I knew this was coming, but I still can't believe it. Devastating horror. She's God's little girl now.

Poor kid.

But I'm not gonna start calling for mom's head. We need to figure out why parents get to this point, and how to stop it from happening again.

I will do it for you. There is no excuse for this woman's behavior. She either deserves life in prison or a loony bin. One or the other - or both.

And I don't think she is crazy, just self absorbed.

I gotta go with FMF on this one. No sympathy for that monster.

Figuring out why it happens, so that we can stop it is a noble goal, but in the meantime, the deed is done in this case, and she needs to face the consequences.

Florida has the death penalty....good.

But before that, the ladies in the prison will do quite the numbers on her, and that will not even be enough justice for me. I hope the anguish and abuse on her lasts for many long days over many long years. With any luck, she'll get to meet her real self.

Prosecutors have already said they will not seek the death penalty.

But yeah, the other women inside will take care of things.

I know so many people who have difficulty controlling their thoughts or emotions.

"Self absorbed"?

Lot of peeps with mild autism come off that way.

"Monster"?

What about Andrea Yates? She had postpartum depression so bad she was psychotic- hearing voices. And yet, her husband pressed for child afer child... until she snapped.

Gangs?

What about the kids who grow up abused, or in such violent neighborhoods they wind up with PTSD? (We have our own homegrown "child soldiers" right here in LA.)

What I find is that the peeps who commit the most heinous crimes are usually the ones LEAST deterred by the threat of punishment, bc their brains are already too screwed up.

I know it's very natural to be horrified by what some peeople do, and then to seek vengeance. But vengeance is not the way to stop it from happening again. You might want to ponder WHY we have the highest crime rate AND the highest incarceration rate, and then go look in a mirror.

Lock her up and study her.

Get her out of society where she cannot endanger anyone and then find out WTF went wrong so we can work towards preventing it in the future.

But no, that would actually make sense, and wouldn't appease the pitchfork-toting horde, now would it.

Didn't we *just* have this conversation in another thread, and one before that ?

So, when you wind up in the drunk tank on a case of mistaken identity cause your name and general description are similar to a perp, it's all ok if the other folks in there do unto you, right ?

Or how bout that dude in the Houston Police thread, since if he does any time inside it's likely to not only happen, but be encouraged by the fuckin police for not bending the knee while they abused his daughter....

WTF is wrong with you people ?

You know, I saw this coming too. I just hope they can build a solid enough case around the mother that she doesn't get off somehow. I don't picture her confessing. May God keep little Caylee now.

That's just it, Siggy...

I am quite well versed in the Milgram, Stanford Prison and other related experiments as well as psychological blind spots I use in my own work to stay undetected and strike for maximum effect.

What bothers me so much is that folks who sit there and spout off the socially-approved challenge-responses like "innocent till proven guilty" and "due process" and "rule of law" - then reveal their real selves in comments just like that, the lynch mob, redux.

And they don't even realize that when they DO that, they're handing over a free ride, the keys to the kingdom, to someone like me, be they white, black, or grey hatted, to play their little heartstrings and get them to hop on command.

Why not just tack a little sign to their forehead saying -
"I AM EASY TO MANIPULATE"

DREAMTROVE

divine right to custody is an issue. A lot of parents are dangerous to their children long before they kill them, and it seems to be always totally obvious. I don't buy the psychosis angle. I think a lot of people have a lot of issues, but the ones that make them kill people are anger and stupidity. Just normal stupidity will do. Insanity is unnecessary, I don't think it is statistically significant, except that these people are always post-diagnosed. One thing that does encourage it is amphetamine abuse. Alcoholism doesn't help. I've known parents who their kids much less directly than this, but just as effectively.

I believe in moral values, not so much in family value. Our paranoid society feeds this sort of thing, children having no contact with others, the insular family. Clearly, the govt. intervention does little if anything.

Oh emotional topic, too much rant potential.

One side comment, don't let hyper emotional cases push you to support what might objectively be bad policy, such as death penalty. Lots of bad laws are made out of extreme examples that end up effecting countless others.

I believe in moral values. I don't believe in vengeance disguised as justice to enforce them.

There are ways of "consequating" behavior without resorting to violence.

Those beautiful eyes, on this beautiful child tell a story.

This child was 3, maybe 4 years old, but those eyes have seen far too much.

May God Bless that little baby.

They said that weeks ago when they charged her with murder. Now they have a body and a mountain of evidence, and they will go for the death penalty.

That is totally different than this case. Yates had five kids and a husband with a perpetually active dipstick, so she may indeed have snapped for an hour as she drowned her kids one by one. But this bitch was calculating and had motives. She wanted to have a new life, a life of clubbing and partying at night, without having to wake up to the realities of having a 2 year old daughter. FBI says she researched on her computer information about chloroform and neck-breaking. They will tie the previous forensics from her own car trunk to the contents of the garbage bag forensics, and then toss in the photographs of the partying and the self-incriminating jail cell visit conversation videos, and she is gone in 60 seconds. You can stand outside the prison with your I Love Casey sign and liberal-guilt tears when they strap her in the chair and punish her for her henious actions. But it'll be lethal injection, although I'd rather see them use chloroform or neck-breaking. All she ever cared about was herself throughout this 6 month circus she put the police & FBI & family & friends through, barely ever showing a genuine thought, concern, or emotion for her supposedly alive daughter. Maybe totally insane, if not then the most heartless, disgusting piece of filth I've ever seen. If not death, then on a chain gang every day under the hot Florida sun digging with her hands for buried Confederate treasure for all I care. Maybe one of her inmate friends can secure a short, tight, blue party dress for her for their special fun times at night. Postpartem depression? How about post-partying depression.

Any action is just and beautiful, as long as someone has it coming, right?

What about standards of human decency, not for the sake of those who deserve to feel the force of justice, but for those doing the enforcing and those in whose name it is enforced? Corruption and prison violence... is that really what you want to advocate for the world?

God, that poor little girl.
