This man should not be allowed to live in the lap of luxury while the rest of us sweat it out trying to figure out how to buy our next meal.

We should get creative on his ass. Don't send him to jail (usually a country club federal prison, again on our dime) but make him pay back every penny. He should be forced to live in a housing facility for the homeless and given government-issued food. Jailtime would be too good for him.

Set the example. If you make it too easy it will not stop future crooks from stealing millions. Yes, I said it. Madoff, the guys from Enron, etc. are nothing but petty crooks and criminals. Offer only time in jail with the other bank robbers and petty thieves, they would not last a day in the general population, I betcha that'll stop 'em by golly (Hey, how did Sarah Palin get in here).

Oh let's give 'em the money. Any guy that could wipe out the life savings of Hollywood actors, producers, and directors can't be all that bad.

For some reason, most bankruptcy laws allow you to keep your primary residence and your primary vehicle. Before the big oil bust of the 80's, lots of Midlanders were buying McMansions and brand new Jags, then declaring bankruptcy and keeping the spoils. You ask me, this kind of crap should be stomped out, and damned quick. Swoop in on Madoff and his family (any of them who've profited from his scams) and take EVERYTHING they have. Put 'em on the street. They've done it to enough other people, them and the likes of Ken Lay and the Enron bunch.

Or, if you REALLY want to send the message, start hanging these swine from lampposts up and down Wall Street.

Is that how it is in your world ? You either are filthy rich, or sweating it out , trying to figure out how to buy your next meal ?

There's no VAST middle ground ? Anywhere ?

And yeah, this guy should be in the slam. Maybe he'll have an " accident " at home , before he goes to jail ?

Let's hope not, because then nobody gets a penny back. Look what happened with Ken Lay, when he so conveniently died - his family was left all the money by his estate, and the law prevents courts from going after his family to recoup money that he stole!

Because of course it's okay to steal from people if their politics are contrary to yours....

The "so-called' rich and poor are being raped, robbed and pillaged alike. I don't know what world you live in but here in the "new" US things are going on that need our immediate attention.

Middle? Since when? That line has all but evaporated. There may be pockets here and there but, for the most part, the foothold that once would catapult a "middleclass" family into the next realm has been cut away by those in that next realm. To join that club you must do "things" to prove your worthiness (see Madoff, Lay, etc.).

I hope that these things that have been going on have not gotten out of hand and irreversible. I'm afraid for the good people of this country.

And with good reason. The crooks are always one step ahead of the system. Everytime a scandal explodes, it gets fixed by the Govt.and Wall Street, but then a few years later there's a new scandal from a different financial angle.....
70's junk bonds
80's insider trading
90's accounting scandal
00's mortgage-backed securities

It'll never stop. The money's too good, they get stupid like Jayne.

Agreed, too many loopholes, so little time. The lawyers create the loopholes that help fleece folk like us. We have to put CONgress' feet to the fire on these loopholes.
