Here's a poem from my favorite author. He wrote this after Obama's win...I thought it appropriate.

Time

I know not the future.

It is a strange world. One that fights and crashes upon itself, like a constant wave breaking against the shore.

But, for now, I will join in the circle with the many Eloi before me.

Spinning around the built fire, as the night grows thick, and the dance lengthens, I will shake the fronds and watch the night bloom.

And,

I will pray.

I will pray that the red eyes I see in the surrounding forest are not the Morlocks.

with the red eyes

I have to say my favorite moment was this one

"Hey, that's just not fair"

When the assassin traps her out of range of her weapon, so she just pulls out a gun and shoots him.

I have to say I'm envious. Lucy is a marvelous creation.

Three things, relative to that.

Firstly, when Diclonius are using their vectors, it seems their human senses almost completely shut off - Lucy is different in that she seems to retain some level of awareness on both perspectives and this makes her exceedingly dangerous.

Second, some of the original translations for sub/dub are bad - there's a moment in her confrontation with Nana that is translated as "I have not killed any humans yet", which makes her look like a petty liar, but what she actually says is "I have not killed any people yet", cause to Lucy, humans ain't people, this gives a window into the root of her madness.

Third, Lucy sees herself as a monster, she deliberately withdraws and shoves Nyu up front because she cannot live with who she is and fears to care about anything she may destroy before she can even think not to - and most of all fears lashing out and harming Kouta, because if she does, he cannot fulfill the promise she demanded of him, which she very much wants as a release and ultimate absolution.

That's a story that just *can't* have a happy ending, which is why the Anime ends where it does, so that you can maybe speculate one.

It cannot be said enough, those who do not learn from history, are doomed to endlessly repeat it

Lucy has the advantage of a lifetime as a human before being a lab experiment. Nana and Mariko are raised in a lab from infancy.

I have the subtitled. I think she says people.

I am just going to challenge the word deliberately for two reasons. 1) A blow to the head or traumatic event makes her shift, it's more like Kouta's mental block, and 2) Lucy is capable of interacting. Sure she's afraid of herself. She also sustains some pretty serious head injuries.

It's a very japanese ending. I like to see this. I knew from the very beginning, as I said, all parasols and sakura. That screams that the author is steeped in Japanese culture, and this is going to be good, not a another battle of good and evil. The ending was perfect, imho. There are some very disturbing moments in the middle.
