Cause, that's really what being a Centerist is all about, right? Duping the general public into funneling billions into useless projects?
NeoCons would use the money for actual WAR results & loosening restrictions on financial institutions, eh?

Now we can all participate in the end of Democracy! Bi-partisanship will lead us all into our well-deserved doom!

I for one hope Obama does spend a few billion on preparation for climate change. We're on the verge of being able to clone the Wooly Mammoth and we'll need them as a food source during the coming Ice Age.

I also look forward to universal health care, because I never go to the doctor but enjoy paying for other peoples medical expenses. I've been to the doctor about twice in the last thirty years, but I'll bet I've payed for some dumb crackhead to go 30 times.

Caveman, I beg to differ. You've paid for some dumb crackhead to go 400 times, and then you've paid for his disability for his "mental illness" which was really just the side effects of his use of crack. This disability has been spent on more crack, so you've enjoyed paying for his crack :)

Well it's about time Dems get something outta this. Why should we let the Neocons have all the fun, I mean after all they ran the banking and housing industry into the ground in one fell swoop. Man those guys really know how to party.

Not only that but they go to CONgress and hold out their hands begging for Welfare, er I mean, for a Bailout and the rest of the Billionaires Club follow suit. The Auto Industry, not wanting to be left out, hold out their greedy sticky hands, as they line up for the "something for nothing" bailout. IT'S CALLED CREATIVE FINANCING!

Global warming and Universal Health Care is all there's left to "steal" from. I know, we can have all the Hospital Adminstrators solicit both houses for bailout money. Actually, it is the only industry that hasn't lost money in this "economic downturn" both them and the Oil Industry have made billions. Hmmmmmm, I wonder why that is?

And this is where your logic fails. You think that because you've never had to use it that paying into the system is useless. Unfortunately, for you, this isn't the case. Because, for any one person, going to the Dr. or Emergency Room, or... is inevitable. Period. It might not have happened yet, but it is a guarantee that it will happen at some point. And at that point, it'll be very very expensive.

In fact, expensive doesn't do it justice. You see, when you look at the cost of health care in different countries, privatised systems are always several times more expensive than public ones. Not only that, but privatised systems are not actually better at providing care. So, you'll pay more for the same or less service. Why less?

Because, of HMOs. Don't have the right insurance? Stabilise him/her and kick 'em out the door. Same with those without insurance. Don't have the proper insurance? Well, those HMOs will "encourage" the Docs not to test for certain things to save money. Etc, etc, etc. Privatisation is an abomination with regards to health care.

And let's not forget the community aspect. I for one am glad that I pay into such a system. My neighbour gets health care as do I. I want this. I want people I know and don't know to be healthy. It makes for a happy and productive society. It comes from a sense of community.

But, overall in the US it's all about the individual (yes, I know there are exceptions). If you can't afford it, then you don't deserve it prevailing attitude.

You see, even though there will be some "crackhead" getting his/her medical covered by others, that is an insignificant portion of society that benefits from universal health care. In other words, it's a strawman argument. Try again.

You, and people like you, might not like the idea of getting hit with a couple percent extra of taxes, but I guarantee that you'll love it when something happens.

I for one and grateful that before my Grandma passed, when she needed a couple surgeries that we didn't have to worry about payment. Because, my parents (middle class, low debt) would have lost there house if we would have had to pay. I for one am grateful that when I ended up in urgent care with a severe migraine (thank god for Imitrex) that I didn't have to deal with payment. I could go on.

We get sick, they make us better and send us on our way. As it should be.

I am quite agreeable, because I rarely do talk on politics. This is where I come to 'vent', well, this and places like this. I prefer to live my life and do by example, rather than interfere w/ others lives and tell them what to do, say , think. What comes out here is likely a concentrated collection of my views, true to my being, of course.

Obama is far from 'dead centre' He was THE MOST LIBERAL of Senators in the U.S. Senate. Talk of redistributing the wealth, that ain't "dead centre", pal. His mom was a hippy who married a less than grounded scholarly fellah who didn't stick around. Seems like Daddy Obama was checking out green pastures, as it were, and wasn't so much the settlin' down type. Thankfully, that character trait didn't stick w/ Obama.

Here's the thing...though, we may not know a great deal about Obama. 2 yrs in the Senate ? What's that prove ? While he does seem to have been drawn to politics via far Left wing, there may be enough individual spirit in him which gives the apperance that he's ' in the middle ' to those on the Left. It's a matter of perspective. But time will tell.

I can't answer that, because I wasn't, nor will ever be born in those places. This sort of projectionism is big w/ the 60's crowd, and for a while I did fall prey to such devices, but no longer. I was born where I was, and had to live my life, as we all do. I do not waste time pondering things I have no clue about, nor do I try to see the world of those born in Darfur or where ever through their eyes w/ out knowing them or their lives.

What's delusional w/ the last part, Chris ? Everything I said was dead on fact. You heard nothing by the MSM of the nearly 7,000 missiles shot from Gaza towards Isreal for the past 3 years. And these weren't bottle rockets on steroids, but actual military hardware, crude as the were, where the intent was every bit there to kill and maime as many civilians (men, women and children ) as possible.

That they weren't BETTER at killing doesn't make their terror any less an issue.

I think your logic is a little clouded by emotion. I'm glad your Grandmother got the "end of life" care she needed, but don't count on that under a universal health system. Some State health care systems are already cutting back on health services for people in their last years of life, and if the Feds get a hold of the health care system that will be one of the first places they look to cut costs. Something like 27% of Medicare costs result from people in their last months of life. Logic would dictate that the limited funds available go were the most good to society results. This would mean spending the majority of funds on wellness care and high cost/benefit surgeries and cutting funding to drug treatment and high cost surgeries for the elderly. Government bureaucrats will have no problem applying "logic" to determine the best way to distribute heath care funds, but those services that don't provide a benefit to society will be cut and people like your Grandmother, but not able to afford private health insurance will still be denied care for the betterment of society.
