Its cold outside. Cold in winter...yet more proof that Global Warming is killing us all. Imagine me, living in Cleveland and having to contend with cold AND snow in mid-January. What is the world coming to? Why didn't someone see this coming? http://www.mysuburbanlife.com/indianheadpark/homepage/x1017440124/Reco

And now the Democrats want to limit the hot air.

If we get any more enviromentally friendly we'll be reduced to burning copies of Earth in the Balance for warmth as the glaciers roll in from Canada.

Fortunately we have a place to go.

I told you of this; I said to invest in parka companies. Wonky weather will ensue. Global Warming doesn't just lead to hot weather. Year-long ski season is just around the corner.

Silly Chrisisall, next you'll be saying its gonna be warm in July.

What wacky science have you been reading? Cold in winter, warm in summer. Something is definately wrong here. Tell me...is the wind blowing where you come from? Cause the wind is blowing here and I can't remember the last time the wind blew in Ohio.

And this moring...I know its hard to imagine...a great ball of burning fire rose into the sky shedding its light upon us all...damn big oil.

My OWN science... anecdotal though it may be. When you are sixty & it's cold & snowy in May where you are, you will remember that silly Chrisisall from FFF that told you so.

Words like Interstadial, Interglacial, are wasted on folks eager to believe that global warming, or change, is evidenced by what thier thermometer says today outside thier door.......*sigh*. Gonna be 65 today here in Sacramento...does that mean anything to anti global warming pseudo scientists?

And you're an educated man Hero? What? No life sciences before law school?

The high noon air temp here in Indianapolis today was neg 1 F. I carved the temp into the frost covering the front door where I work.

I need some of the hot air politicos on this site puff around to warm up my office.

I therefore invite Rue and Auraptor to my office today to...just...talk awhile. It'll be cheaper than a space heater.

I ended up stranded in the middle of nowhere tonight and it was and is 15 below zero. Fortunately, there was a vehicle at a friends house. Add to the list of cars that start right up when it's -15F, a '94 Nissan Sentra. The other one I've had pass this test well was the old VW bug. Damn it's cold.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I think the term has been revamped to "Climate Change" rather than the overly simplistic "Global Warming."
And yes, it's cold in winter, but that doesn't mean the climate hasn't changed. Where I live the weather is always wonky, but it just keeps getting weirder and weirder. It was -16 in November, it was 65 in late December, then snow fell, then it melted, then we had fog, something I never saw until maybe four years ago, and now seems to happen pretty regularly. It's been snowing more regularly, too, which isn't bad because we need the water, but it is weird for a state that's been in near-constant drought for a decade and didn't used to see more than a feathering of snow until March. Also, when it's as cold as it gets in January, that stuff just hangs around forever, getting more and more slick and deadly.
Fun times.
BTW, DT, I love my Subaru, hasn't failed to start yet.

See, the glaciers will melt, and the water will evaporate, and the air will be filled with clouds, and the snow will fall, and we will be cold..... and the warming will begin all over again.

Bye Venice, and Manhattan... but we won't see it in our lifetimes, IMO.

Take solace in the slowness of word climatic events.

it was 19 degrees this morning in Gulf Shores, Al. On the Gulf Coast - on the Gulf of Mexico. Of course it was 80 last week. But still 19 degrees in hell. Now THATS climate change people!

So ChrisIsAlwaysRight and PR are correct. Wonkiness ensues

One thing about electric cars that you don't hear about is how bad they suck in weather like this. A heater in a vehicle gathers its heat from the internal combustion reaction of the running engine. Electric cars have no such heat source. In absurd cold weather you MUST have a hybrid, otherwise you'd freeze to death driving to work.

The one solution a pure electric car can offer is an electric space heater, but electric heaters gobble up electricty to run, and the car battery would be dead in short order.

Someone needs to invent a Mr. Fusion.

I think venice is sinking a we speak. It's been in the news for it, being much more underwater than usual. It ain't the rising see that does it, it's the rising ground water which sits invisible atop the sea under the coast.

hands of blue.

Electric heat doesn't gobble up that much electricity The one by my bed is 425, if running all the time, and it's running about half the time, which most are. I full electric heater unit is typical 1500w, still a drop in the bucket to the 20,000w to run the vehicle. Prius already has electric heat in electric only mode, at least in post '04 models. This isn't a new idea, some VW bugs came with an external heater built into the front. It's very doable.

I agree with the hybrid, simply because for long drives, it's more practical, but no, you wouldn't freeze without that electricity, you'd lose about 10% of range.

Seems par for the course - they use some seriously crummy quality motors for vehicle heater blower fans, and yet despite being a LOWER quality and efficiency than a freakin $5 duct booster fan, happen to cost $80 or more and since you have to rip most of the dash apart to get to em, insanely expensive to repair.

The Alero's blower fan is shot, the Ex's truck blower fan is shot, and the Ex's little Kia SUV has a stuck thermostat (I tore the whole dash on that apart already to replace a blown heater core, which is about as nightmare a repair as you can imagine, so you bet your booty I made sure the blower motor was good while I was in there!) which is a freakin six dollar part but since she automatically assumes total mechanical incompetence* on my behalf she don't agree with my diagnoses until a shop bills her for telling her the same thing, which over SIX YEARS has been in every single case identical to my diagnoses... *eyeroll*

In short, three gas powered vehicles, three non functional heaters - so not like it'd matter much to me save for the windshield defroster being kind of a critical thing, yanno.

(RANT WARNING)
*Yes, despite six straight years of repairing everything from the burnt out stove heating element, to various internal washer parts, several computers, endless typical household repairs, and multiple automotive breakdowns not the least of which was replacing the freakin heater core in a cursed Kia Sportage which is a job so heinous many shops will not do it, and without a manual since neither Clymer nor Hanes makes one for Kia... I am still automatically assumed to be a completely inept mechanical and technical incompetent right up to the point where a shop hands her the estimate of what it's gonna cost her for them to fix it and she starts having a hissy about having to "buy a new one" and finally throws it in my lap with some petty offhand comment about how she has to replace it anyway so what the hell...

And then it gets fixed, and stays fixed for years, and nothing more is said of it - till something else breaks...

And folks wonder why we broke up...
*hissss*
(RANT WARNING)

Anyhow, considering how shoddy and expensive, not to mention primitive yet overcomplicated and unreliable that standard issue automotive heating units are - they could hardly do worse, you ask me.

... and meanwhile

Australia heatwave claims 37 lives
• Record-breaking heatwave sparks spate of bushfires
• Country endures its hottest temperatures since 1855

South Australia and Victoria have been the worst affected, enduring six consecutive days of temperatures reaching 113F (45C).
The extreme conditions in Melbourne caused an electricity substation to explode, shutting down the city's train network, trapping people in lifts and resulting in thousands of people being treated for heat exhaustion.
The worst heatwave in a century has been blamed for a series of bushfires raging across the country. In the Latrobe Valley, east of Melbourne, a blaze destroyed 29 homes last weekend.

Pity, mostly.

And she bribes me with food.

Thing is, for all that the relationship is toast, we always were good friends despite how frustrating we can be to each other - and she has few enough of those, given her lack of a social life, workaholic attitude to prevent being outsourced, and a grating will-admit-no-flaw personality.

But there's a huge difference between choosing to put up with someones flaws on occasion, and having to do so 24-7-365, and I think it pretty damned obvious that I ain't what ya might call easy to get along with neither.

She's a law-n-order conservative, and imma freakin unrepentant anarchist, so there was that too.

But we're friends, always were and I don't see it changin any time soon.

Funny thing, she bribes me with pizza, which allows her to ease her conscience over the financial difficulties that blowup initially caused me, while giving her an excuse to have "just one piece" (or two, LOL) without "technically" violating her self-imposed diet plan, or leaving it in her fridge where temptations gonna set in.

And my idea of a single-serving pizza is an 18" deep dish, I *WILL* go all galactus on it, hell I used to solo wipe-out Pizza hut bigfoots and then nap for two hours like a well fed snake.

But then, I got the metabolism to get away with that, STILL being all of 5'6" and maybe 130lbs soakin wet with boots on...

So, she brings me a pizza, and nibbles one slice while I chug a lug the damn thing right out of the box, and then while i'm all fed and contented and such, springs the "Do you know where to put brake fluid in the truck, cause they're not working right anymore..." while my defenses are down.

Smart girl.

(Although it's not so much that alone as much as how slick she is about it and my respect for a well played setup)
