Reaching for the Uher 5000 stop button, she testified that she mistakenly hit the button next to it — the record button. For the duration of the phone call, about five minutes, she kept her foot on the device's pedal, causing a five-minute portion of the tape to be re-recorded. She insisted she was not responsible for the remaining 13 minutes of buzz.

Woods was asked to replicate the position she took to cause that accident: seated at a desk, reaching far back over her left shoulder for a telephone as her foot applies constant pressure to the pedal controlling the transcription machine. Her extremely awkward posture during the demonstration -- dubbed the "Rose Mary Stretch" -- resulted in many political commentators questioning the validity of the explanation.

Flash forward....

"The CIA can now identify the number of videotapes that were destroyed," Acting US Attorney Lev Dassin wrote in his letter dated March 2 to New York Judge Alvin Hellerstein.

"Ninety-two videotapes were destroyed."

The tapes reportedly showed "war on terror" Al-Qaeda suspects undergoing waterboarding, in which prisoners are subjected to a process of simulated drowning that is widely considered torture.

In December 2007, then CIA chief Michael Hayden disclosed the existence of tapes showing the interrogations of two Al-Qaeda suspects, made in 2002 and destroyed in 2005 to protect the identity of agency operatives.

Dassin on Monday asked for the CIA be given until March 6 to prepare a schedule for bringing any records on the tapes to court in a case first brought against the CIA by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in December 2007.

"This letter provides further evidence for holding the CIA in contempt of court," said Amrit Singh, ACLU staff attorney, in a statement.

"The large number of videotapes destroyed confirms that the agency engaged in a systemic attempt to hide evidence of its illegal interrogations and to evade the court's order."

Does anyone else sense a correlation in these events?
Sure, politicians are crooked, scum-sucking, egomaniacs and our government is totally corrupt, but these particular events happened during, IMO, the worst administrations ever to sit in power.

It continues today. It seems to me that of our two political parties, or ideologies, one attempts to deal with problems that face the populace, while the other, (who I believe has recently changed their name to Rushicans), is hell-bent on changing the country to fit their narrow-minded view of what is right for the county, while building a power base in order to advance an authoritarian, if not a completely totalitarian, form of government.....

But, back to the 92 videos destroyed by the CIA - first let me say that I am not a totally vindictive person, and while I was at odds with many of the Bush administration policies, I am not calling for Dick Cheney's head on a platter. However, I would like to see some form of investigation into the shadier aspects of the Bush years.

So, what'dya think? Push the investigation to it's fullest extent, or let sleeping dogs lie...? I'm not sure just how much brush there is to clear up there in Preston Hollow, but maybe it is best just to let George trim the live oaks.... and drift off into obscurity.....

Ha!, and here I thought I was the only one around here who remembered that fiasco.

Anyhows...

Well, firstoff your premise is a little off, believe me, BOTH parties do this shit nonstop, for one.

I mean, on the Dem side it really does go all the way back to the Tammany Hall crowd, culminating in the Johnson administration and all that rot, seriously when you compare Johnson and Nixon there ain't much damn difference.

Secondly, the alphabet goons are a law unto themselves, formed out of the very scum of the earth in the first place (really, look into how the DOJ was formed, and you'll just cringe) and never upbraided or called into account for even the very worst of deeds, which all too often take place not only without the knowledge of the american public, but in many cases without even the knowledge of the administration they supposedly work for.

And it's not like they're accountable even when they get caught at it - case in point; Carnivore/Omnivore.

The FBI took a field trip to the Soviet Union to study the SORM-II internet monitoring system, unawares that the NSA had long since cloned their own improved version and put it into use, and they came back drooling over it and very eager to apply it against their supposed protectees, ok ?

Congress find out, throws a shit fit, and explicitly, in three seperate congressional directives, forbids them to build it, forbids them from financing it and having someone else build it, and on top of that very specifically and explicitly forbade them to ever use it on american citizens, which is against their charter anyway.

And so what do they do ?

IMMEDIATELY budget, build and use it - in complete violation of their charter and three congressional directives, an act that was completely illegal, and up till the point where that friggin patriot act illegally and retroactively protected them (good ole ex-post-facto, don't ya know) was by the letter of the law a rogue agency committing terrorism and espionage against the very people they were supposed to be protecting from it.

Now, with that in mind, as the merest, most minor action of the "cleanest" of the alphabet goons, how bad do you really think it's gonna be if you go digging into the soft underbelly of the nastier ones ?

I mean, come on, these are the sumbitches who came up with NORTHWOODS and Operation Ajax for crying out loud - the latter of which we're paying DEARLY for to this very day.

And that doesn't even BEGIN to scratch the surface of shit like Main Core, which I ain't about to discuss beyond the mere mention of it.

The problem with a full investigation of this nature, is whether you want a whitewash and a few privately slapped hands, like the Church Committee, which mind you didn't even slow down this behavior...

Or whether you're willing to hang some folk, cause you WILL have to, and risk the very real possibility of a crisis of confidence resulting in a near total collapse of federal authority - cause if you took it that far and started spilling certain bags of beans, really pulled the dirt out and looked at it, you'd have rioting in the streets and people torching their offices within a week.

What if I told you, minus the great grand illuminati-jewish-tabloid factor, that PirateNews is damned accurate about the ACTIONS these people take, despite having his own wacky ideas about their motives...

And just for speculation, and imma use stuff folk already suspect cause otherwise even the omissions would reveal things...

What if the american people learned that they have not really had any privacy on the phone, internet or even in public for over 20 years ?

What if american companies learned that our own intel folks used industrial espionage and insider information to manipulate stocks to crush politically "unreliable" companies while filling their own budgets ?

Or that the majority of the drug trade in the US was their doing ?

Or the real secret of Diebolds "trade secret" programming comes out ?

From the least to the largest, if it all came out, I mean stuff from your very worst nightmares, stuff even the most bitter conspiracy theorist would consider beneath them, stuff that would send you into a fit of shivering horrified fear and rage so profound that you'd very much desire to drink yourself unconscious... KEPT coming out, day after day, for WEEKS.

Consider the inevitable results, riots, lynch mobs, vandalism and arson against companies who deliberately participated, not to mention the agencies in question being so hated that the only safety for their employees and families, many of whom had no knowledge or involvement, would be to flee the country immediately.

Would America, as we know it, even survive such a thing ?

So ponder well what you're wishing for, take your worst nightmare scenario, and multiply it by five, and it STILL WON'T EVEN COME CLOSE.

My take on it ?

A couple of executive decisions and a whole lot of "unfortunate accidents" within the intelligence community, a lethal purge with a nod and a wink from the people, remind them who they work for with a pile of bodies as a sharp reminder of where the goddamn boundries are.

And every time they put a foot over, remind them in the very same fashion.

Do that, and cut their budgets down to mere observation and reporting to a review board of military and civilian officials, while specifically disallowing them from taking any action themselves without risk of "unfortunate accidents", and you might, just MIGHT get the leash back on without the lid blowing off.

In the end you've really only got three options.

1. Slap on the wrist and business as usual.
2. Blow it wide and watch our country fall to pieces over it.
3. Remind them who they work for by painting the walls with their people.

None of them solutions is pretty, though.

Thanks for that response Frem. Once again, you provide a useful and well reasoned argument. I agree with your assessment of PirateNews as well. He does his homework, even if he does appear to be on the fringe at times. Much of what he reports, I do take seriously.

I'm not laying blame for all the ills of government on one party, although I do feel a tad more optimistic with the current gang in the big house - no doubt the pattern of corruption has a lengthly history and to try to undo years of lousy decisions by shining light on past misdeeds could be counterproductive, but as your own signature line says.... well you know - and it is true, even though it's simplicity is often lost on those who should heed it the most.

As far as rioting in the streets - we've seen it before to some degree, and as far as I can tell, the end result is usually more of the secretive, unethical manipulations by the alphabet squad. Then again, I think you give a majority of the American public too much credit. The attention span of most of us can be measured in the length of an American Idol program.

Surely, at some point in time, those responsible for the most egregious events in our history should be held accountable and let the repercussions fall where they may, in spite of any empire collapsing scenario. Although, that time may be at hand sooner than most of us think.

Thanks for the information. I'm off to check out Main Core - I'll get back to you on that one.

Yeah, but I am not sure you realize the scope...

Ok, take the rodney king riots, triple em, and then imagine that happening in every major city, with a side order of post-katrina new orleans.

Then throw in usual heavy handed provocations, like the door to door confiscations and police looting/abandonment, blackwater doing what they do, and then the damn Dirty Third (who has active duty troops assigned for just such a scenario) coming in at the behest of FEMA and trying to round folk up, which, in combination with the shit that would have STARTED the riots - would be the final nail which tips the public into believing ALL the conspiracy theories, even the bogus ones!

Dominic:So do you know what's gonna happen?
Finch:No, it was a feeling. But I can guess. With so much chaos, someone will do something stupid. And when they do, things will turn nasty. And then Sutler will be forced to do the only thing he knows how to do. At which point...

Only, it's not half as pretty as that story makes it, especially not the movie - just imagine the soldiers opening up on the civvies while screaming epithets, and then being bodily ripped limb from limb in a screaming bloody frenzy closer to a pirahna pack swarming some sharks than any human behavior pattern.

And you wanna see where THAT goes.. Somalia, Rwanda, Biafra, we've seen it all before - don't think it can't happen here, cause it most certainly can, especially when you've got the massive public ire from these fucking bailouts and a wrecked economy lying around like a puddle of gasoline just waiting for a lit match...

And while some anarchists might gleefully think of tossing one, I ain't one of em, and in fact will work to prevent it, which is one reason I am as disliked even in THAT community as any other, cause I damn well know far better than they just how bad something like that can go.

If the shit hit the fan THAT bad, we'd lose 15% of the population to starvation within six months as the very logistical system behind the urban food supply falls apart, disease would likewise follow as water and power systems fail, either due to destruction of an infrastructure already hanging by a thread, or by deliberate action by the powers that be, for punitive reasons or as an excuse to justify emergency powers.

Between starvation, disease, neglect, and violence, that percentage climbs to about a quarter.

In less than a year, you're talking about a die-off of approx 25% of the US population, particularly the elderly, infirm or young.

That's 75,956,160 PEOPLE, dead.

I don't ever wanna go there, the price is just too goddamn high, and if that means helping shovel dirt on shit that's better off buried, then that's what it means.

Remember what I said about there being things in this world that just the knowing of, can hurt you.

point taken.... enough said

That is a very bleak and ominous portrait you paint there... and believe me, I am aware of how sometimes science fiction can become science fact.....

In my wildest dreams and darkest imagination I have envisioned this "Day of the Locust" scenario, and have often thought of the best geographical location to try to wait out the storm. Urban areas are out, unless you are so well-heeled that you have access to that uber-shelter hidden from John Q Public (i'm not) - rural parts of the country will probably be overrun by those who choose not to fight in the cities and the sparsest parts of the country may be no better. Foreign country..?

I read today that the Dean of the Russian Foreign Ministry diplomatic academy has predicted the U.S. will collapse by next year and Russia and China will become the backbones of a new world order....

According to Igor Panarin "...recent economic turmoil in the U.S. and other "social and cultural phenomena" led him to nail down a specific timeframe for "The End" _ when the United States will break up into six autonomous regions and Alaska will revert to Russian control.

It is a sobering thought.
