Former Ukraine finance minister:

Russia's interference in the U.S. election was but the latest and most audacious episode in Moscow's ongoing effort to destroy liberal democracy and the Trans-Atlantic partnership, says a top Ukrainian leader. "The information attacks, the propaganda, the cyberattacks. We've lived through all the things they tested first in Ukraine," Natalie Jaresko, the country's former finance minister told David Axelrod on The Axe Files podcast, a joint production of CNN and the University of Chicago's Institute of Politics.

"It's shocking that they would take the risk of doing that in the United States. And now it appears -- I've seen reports -- Germany, France and elsewhere. "

And Trump is his best ally in this.

NATO: Russian Propaganda Up Since Crimea Offensive

NATO and EU officials are increasingly worried about Russia's ability to spread disinformation via TV and internet.

By Reuters On 2/11/17

NATO accused Russia of escalating a disinformation campaign since the Kremlin's 2014 seizure of Ukraine's Crimea region, saying Russian websites such as Sputnik and RT had posted false stories, the alliance's spokeswoman said on Saturday.

There is increasing concern among senior NATO and European Union officials over Russia's ability to use television and the Internet to spread what they say is fake news.

The defense alliance of 28 democracies says it has recorded more than a score of Russian myths in the last two years which it has attempted to knock down with factsheets, interviews, rebuttals and videos.

Besides the Flynn scandal, he had an open air security briefing at his key largo golf course. ISIS Doesn't Stand A Chance, Unless America 'Engages' Russia

The proposal that America engage Russia to fight Islamic terrorism is beyond folly. Russia’s recent intrusion into America’s electoral process may flag caution. But that is woefully insufficient. The proposal is either willed ignorance or studied reality reversal.

First, the proposal dismisses Russia as the overarching existential threat to our existence, both as a free democratic society and physically. For all its savagery, ISIS is not an existential threat, whether to the U.S. or to Europe. ISIS beheads individuals. The Kremlin decapitates entire democratic processes. Russia has and is everything ISIS does not and is not. Russia remains, as was the Soviet Union, the largest country on earth, including an entire third of Asia. It seamlessly projects its power across 11 times zones, from Europe to the Sea of Japan to miles within the U.S. border. Its combined nuclear/conventional/chemical/biological arsenal transcends anything we can muster.

Julian Assange and Russia

During the press conference, Assange tried to back away from accusations linking him to Russia and said the WikiLeaks operation was “a neutral, digital Switzerland.”

However, some experts question the organization’s motives, pointing to alleged ties between WikiLeaks and Russia.

"Everything they have done over the last few months suggests they are operating as a front for a different leaker [Russia],” Ryan Kalember, SVP of Cybersecurity Strategy at Proofpoint, told the Guardian .

Kalember added the apparent ties to the Kremlin and WikiLeaks’ record of publishing identifying information about individuals has dwindled trust in the organization.

“No one in the information security community really trusts him and his motives,” he said. “I think at this point Assange is effectively acting in the service of the Russian government, whether intentionally or not,” said Kalember.

Assange has been viewed as favoring Trump after WikiLeaks released hacked emails from the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta last year. Top U.S. intel officials believe Russia hacked Democrats to help President Donald Trump win the election last November. A Russian state-backed group called Cozy Bear is believed to be behind the DNC hacks last year. The release of hacked documents had a major impact on Clinton’s presidency bid, leading her to lose the election to Trump.

Exclusive: Putin-linked think tank drew up plan to sway 2016 U.S. election - documents

It recommended the Kremlin launch a propaganda campaign on social media and Russian state-backed global news outlets to encourage U.S. voters to elect a president who would take a softer line toward Russia than the administration of then-President Barack Obama, the seven officials said.

A second institute document, drafted in October and distributed in the same way, warned that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton was likely to win the election. For that reason, it argued, it was better for Russia to end its pro-Trump propaganda and instead intensify its messaging about voter fraud to undermine the U.S. electoral system’s legitimacy and damage Clinton’s reputation in an effort to undermine her presidency, the seven officials said.

According to Reuters, there's no evidence that the Trump campaign colluded in this. It was purely a Russian operation. Nor did the RISS plans say anything about the release of hacked emails. "The officials said the hacking was a covert intelligence operation run separately out of the Kremlin."

1) So we have the RISS plan.

2) We have the RT cable network and the Sputnik news agency, which specialized in anti-Clinton stories. Trump knows ‘nothing about Russia,’ He just repeats their propaganda.

That's a pretty big operation. Did it work? We'll never know, but given how close the election was, the answer is probably yes. Probably Trump will loosen financial regulation along the same lines as Bush, then the USA can probably have another 2008 style financial collapse. Then it is kudos to Putin for his farsighted understanding of American Capitalism! You can know as much as Putin’s best advisers about how Capitalism can repeat big mistakes by watching The Big Short. www.metacritic.com/movie/the-big-short

History suggests there is a way to let the poor get richer, the rich get poorer. But you’re not going to like it
www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2017/04/19/history-suggests-there-

Rising economic inequality in the United States has been a major animating force on both the political left and the right. Whether it is Sen. Bernie Sanders promising to rebuild blue-collar communities or President Trump pledging to "make America great again," today's political platforms often revolve around a return to the perceived "normal" of a vibrant middle class and more equitable distribution of wealth that America experienced in the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s.

Yet with a broader look at history, it's clear that period of falling inequality was the exception, and that today's increasing inequality is more a return to the norm. And when inequality did fall throughout history, Stanford University professor Walter Scheidel argues in a new book, it tended to do so for very unpleasant reasons.

In “The Great Leveler: Violence and the History of Inequality from the Stone Age to the Twenty-First Century,” Scheidel examines societies from ancient history to the present. He finds that most societies gradually grew more unequal over time, and where those inequalities were leveled out, they were almost always done so by violent forces — war, revolution or plague. The work contains some shocking lessons about the nature of inequality and what that might mean for our future.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.

Question: We saw an unusually large drop in inequality during World War I and World War II. Has that shaped people’s perceptions of what inequality should look like?

It has. The postwar period, the ’50s, ’60s and ’70s, has become the reference point. In that period, economic growth was strong, the middle class was expanding, and inequality was low by current standards. But since the 1980s, growth has slowed, and what growth we have disproportionately benefits the famous 1 percent, at the very top at the income distribution.

That marks a real change from the postwar period, and that is understandably perceived as undesirable. But if you look at history more broadly, it’s the postwar period that was anomalous.

When Trump said, “Make America great again,” that implies there was once a period where things were better, and in people’s consciousness it is the postwar period, where you had strong economic growth, a strong middle class and low inequality. But that’s an unusual combination, and it’s difficult to see how we would get back on that track.

Question: Your book goes far back in history to study inequality. How do you study inequality in ancient societies? What can things like burials and archaeology tell us?

If you go back in time to societies that don’t even have writing, basically all you have are graves. Some people were buried with much more lavish goods than other people, suggesting that they were better off in life and held positions of power and authority.

Question: Is it possible this time could be different?

Everything’s possible. It’s just I reckon people after World War II had the same idea. They had industrialized economies for the first time, full democracy, mass education. It was a reasonable assumption that high inequality would never return. And it turned out to be untrue, because other forces reasserted themselves. Inasmuch as there are trends visible now, like technology, globalization, aging, they actually point toward greater, rather than diminished, inequality.

Things are much different this time around. We have now spent the second half of my lifetime in wars and rather than being good for the economy it is one of the largest things destroying it.

There also has never been a Central Bank system like we have today that makes losers out of all of us. And in 2009, under the Obama Administration and a new FED chief, quantitative easing was like giving the FED a booster shot of trenbolone.

Did you watch the video Second? It is pretty fascinating. It's also a non-partisan look at what our monetary system has become. I have no doubt that quantitative easing would have happened whether it was Obama or McCain in office. Doesn't matter.

If the Republicans could have their way, "easing" would not have been done because, well, you’d have to read two articles about how "easing" works and how a certain kind of economist's mind, always a Republican mind, works:
https://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/03/20/fiscal-aspects-of-quantit
ative-easing-wonkish
/
https://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/02/26/quantitative-easing-and-m
onetary-aggregates/?_r=0

You know, a successful prediction is supposed to change peoples’ minds: if you’re wrong about how an experiment turned out, and someone else made a prediction you considered foolish but turned out completely right, you’re supposed to concede that just maybe, possibly, they were on to something.

The fact that essentially nobody on the Republican side of the debate has budged in the slightest tells us that whatever it is they’ve been doing, it’s not scientific research.

Putin wants to show his citizenry that democracy is no better than what they have. It's what keeps most Russians from taking to the streets to protest for something better.

Well, as this shit plays out with Trump the checks and balances of our democracy, are showing the Russian people our system and our rule of law is much better than what Putin offers. What he offers is no better than what is offered in the Middle East; bad and corrupt government.

And Trump is his best ally in this.

I just want to keep our eye on the ball. Russia has an end game and we need to protect our way of life, and the hope of all free thinking people.

I should get a stamp made that allows me to stamp your responses to facts about Trumps indiscretions, fallacy of relative privation. You constantly dredge up indiscretions from the past to address harmful facts posted about Trump today. It's not only ridiculous, but you make false claims that those whom you are conversing with, finds those past indiscretions acceptable.

Russia’s Bolshoi Scraps Ballet Three Days Before Premiere

MOSCOW — Russia’s Bolshoi Theater has canceled a much-anticipated ballet about dancer Rudolf Nureyev just three days before the opening night, a development that got many in Moscow’s art scene to speak of a return to censorship.

The Russian Culture Ministry on Monday confirmed reports that the decision was announced after the minister had a chat with the theater’s director but denied exerting any pressure on Russia’s legendary institution.

Kim Jong Un sends North Korean slaves to Russia to earn cash for regime

Brutal North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un is shipping tens of thousands of impoverished citizens to Russia for the hard currency his cash-strapped regime desperately needs, Fox News has found.

Alarmed human rights groups say the North Korea workers in Russia are little more than slaves, subjected to everything from cruel and violent acts to ruthless exploitation at the hands of corrupt officials, while being forced to turn over large chunks of their pay to the North Korean government.

I believe that the future of the planet is: people who think alike about the role of government. It's a matter of time. Maybe hundreds of years though. Sad!

==============================

The position seems to agree with the widespread impression that things are not going well in the paradigmatic liberal democracies. Generally, he endorses the claim made famous by Winston Churchill, that “democracy is the worst system of government, except for all the others.” He claims that Russia and China, and other authoritarian systems, in contrast, have little soft-power appeal. Most people wouldn't want to go and live there. The U.S. Has been the paradigm example of a large democracy in the post-WWII world, but it shows signs of wear and decay—as with some other larger-scale democracies. Fukuyama complains of “vetocracy,” not only in the U.S., but also other countries such as Greece, India and Ukraine. The idea is that power in western democracies has been “captured by elites” who can veto anything which crosses their interests; and it will take some shock to the system to get needed reforms.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

The claim:

Russia wants to upend Western democracy

Or, more specifically, according to THUGGER:

Addressing the innuendo that perhaps French and German elections were hacked - as usual no evidence was provided. However, since Germany's federal elections haven't been held yet (they're scheduled for 24 September 2017) it's premature to say they've 'been' hacked. As for France's elections, the NSA claims Russia hacked them. French intelligence says it doesn't appear to be a state actor, and refuses to assign it to anyone or any country. The Latest: France says no trace of Russian hacking Macron https://www.apnews.com/fc570e4b400f4c7db3b0d739e9dc5d4d

Looking into whether or not Russia 'hacked' the US election, the two major claims were based on the notion that Russia 'hacked' the DNC; and also 'hacked' Podesta's emails. However, US intelligence was never allowed to look at the DNC servers. All information came from whatever CrowdStrike released to them, and its comments made about them. And 'all' 17 US intelligence agencies didn't conclude Russia 'hacked' the servers, only 4 did, and only three with 'high confidence'. Less has been made of the Podesta emails. Buy they too weren't directly investigated by US intelligence agencies. Instead "Researchers from the Atlanta-based cybersecurity firm Dell SecureWorks" came to that conclusion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Podesta_emails So both 'hacks' were attributed to Russia by private security firms; and US intelligence never directly investigated any evidence - it merely echoed both the data and conclusions it was given.

To date, there's been no public agency investigation of either server. All claims are based on second-hand (and highly selected) information provided by private cybersecurity firms.

Trump is not the problem. He set himself against the Deep State's agenda. And the Deep State's been heading for WWIII for years.
As for you, you're just a Deep State useful idiot, furthering its agenda. So I hope you enjoy cesium in your coffee. You've earned it.

Facebook Will Tell You Whether You Saw Russian Propaganda During The 2016 Election

The social media behemoth announced on its blog today that it is in the process of building a tool to allow users to see which posts from the Russian Internet Research Agency—now the Federal News Agency, or FAN—appeared in their feeds during the 20-month period between January 2015 and August 2016.

The move is part of the company’s “ongoing effort to protect our platforms and the people who use them from bad actors who try to undermine our democracy,” wrote a Facebook spokesperson in an un-bylined post.

You mean Facebook don't you? That is hilarious coming from a Russian troll. Someone who is trying to delegitimize the main stream media in America by claiming they are all fake news.

Yep hilarious too, because it's your guy Trump who's trying to do that as well.
