I can see why Repuliconservaneocontarians wouldn't like this...mass transit. Admitting that mass transit is neccessary is admitting that there may be human involvement in climate change. They have to oppose such things as a matter of policy.

When I lived abroad I used mass transit and taxis only it was cheaper and I loved it. No insurance man getting $100 a month. No looking for parking spots. No stressing over directions. Drunk bus/train riding was allowed. No car payments. I played video games on the way to work. It was great!

But no...between our car culture, Texas oil interests, The big 3, and nascar, ordinary Americans may never know that level of transportational liberation

I can think of another reason. Lord Wellington reportedly saw the railways as a bad idea, because it would encourage the poor to move about. Dirty unsightly things those common folk.

Gee, and here I thought it might have something to do w/ over crowding in cities, massive congestion on highways and the high price of gasoline. There's a boat load of reasons why one might be in favor for modernizing a rail system which barely gets used, and not a damn thing has to do with the phony climate change lie.

As long as the trains and buses were running, sure. But one thrown switch, and the entire rail system can come crashing down. Super. But as long as it works for you, I'm tickled for ya.

WTF does 'neck car have to do w/ the way you travel ? Texas oil interest ? You mean the wells which have been capped for some 20 yrs ?

I am mildly interested - it's something we completely failed to invest in and partially due to the horror that is Amtrack being propped up by the Gov with it's usual horrific "efficiency".

But while the idea is promising, what will draw MY support is if they build it from the ground up on an alternative energy platform, which'd be hella easier than retrofitting something else.

In this instance, Auraptor is quite correct. If you are trying to sell alternative transportation by using Global Warming, then you need to find a new Advertising or Public Relations Division.

50% of the people might believe or care about Man Made Global Warming. (More people might believe in it, but still not care about it enough to change their behavior.)

100% of the people might believe and care about efficiency, low-cost, and comfort.

I know what hooks I'd use in an ad campaign.

Don't know about the comfort but they have quite a way to go on the low-cost and efficiency. My wife and I travel from Atlanta to St. Louis quite often visiting her family. A while ago I thought it might be fun to take Amtrak. Here's my options:

Flying takes around 1 hour and 45 minutes and I can get advanced fares of around $64 per person.

Driving takes around 9 hours (600 miles) and costs around $60 for gas.

On Amtrak we would leave the Atlanta station at 8:21 pm for Washington DC and arrive at 10:10am the next day. At 4:05pm of that day we would leave Washington for Chicago and arrive at 8:40pm that day. Finally we would leave Chicago at 1:45pm the next day and arrive in St. Louis at 7:21 pm. Because of the time difference that winds up being exactly 48 hours to go 900 miles and the cost would be $182 per person.
