I prefer that to "...found no evidence, so it must of happened."

Remember Bush's 1980 trip to Iran in back of an SR-71 to broker the deal to keep the hostages until after the election? Democrats cited the complete lack of evidence as reason to investigate.

H

"Hero. I have come to respect you"- Chrisisall, 2009.

Yeah, and Reagan used that "complete lack of evidence" to admit that he DID indeed negotiate with terrorists, and sold them TOW missiles despite his earlier denials of having done so.

Yeah, well, Obama wasn't there.
I remember McCain saying to his supporters who booed Obama's name that he was a decent man. That bought him many point with me.

And any chick that shoots mooses (meese-?) for fun from a helicopter IS a c**t, s-o-r-r-y.

...while Palin joked at her rallies about "someone who pals around with domestic terrorists..."

Which, you have to admit, is a pretty c-word-ish thing to do, really.

By the way, did the Secret Service investigate this? If not, it "must of" not happened, right?

ETA: In fairness, though, I think if those protestors wore those to an Obama rally and he saw them, he'd have them removed from the rally, not stand there smiling like McCain did when a supporter called Hillary "the bitch", or as Palin did while supporters yelled things like "treason", "terrorist", and "kill him".

I'll grant you that he would have moved them out of camera shot. But that is as FAR as I will go!

But seriously. With the stuff swirling around Obama that he seemingly got a pass on, Repulican supporters were getting fumed. I'm not saying it was right, or that it even happened (again, the Secret Service found no one else that heard "Kill him" and the only guy that apparently did was a staunch Obama supporter). I'm one of those who believe that if a relative newcomer to the Republican Party, only in the Senate for 2 years, with the connections that Obama had, would have gotten skewered by the MSM and the left to the point he wouldn't have gotten past the first few primaries. Nope. Can't prove it. Just a gut feelin'.

It's really funny and ironic - they wanted to hurt Letterman, get him fired, tank his ratings. Instead, they've given him a big boost.

I get the gut feeling that this whole bout of faux outrage had more to do with Letterman than with what was said. I think Palin is still trying to "get back at him" for what he did to McCain after McCain lied to him and bailed because he had to "go fix Washington" - and then turned up on Katie Couric's set. I'm sure Palin thinks that's what cost them the election, and she's still got an axe to grind over it.

Too bad it didn't work out for her, yet again.

"Mmmmmm... Tasty! How's that ObamaCola taste?"

See - it starts with blindness, which happens to be oddly selective. Apparently you never saw my posts saying that Obama was far more conservative than most people realized. Or my posts that said the time to fight would be AFTER the election. That I disagreed with his bailout of BIG BANKS and WALL STREET and with his continuing of Bush secrecy policies.

It continues with a serious inability to follow or understand simple logic. For example, that just b/c people don't disapprove of EVERYTHING Obama does, it means they SUPPORT everything he does. Like you just did, above.

Before long, like Rap, you will be unable to grasp simple reality - in your mind people will time-travel, be in two places at once, be all powerful and at the same time, powerless .... up will be down, black will be white. You'll be implying that Palin herself NEVER 'brought her kids into it' by her own choice. That McCain never accepted low blows at Obama by letting the crowd call him "traitor", "criminal", "terrorist", "liar", "Muslim terrorist" ... or that Palin said similar things. You won't be able to see that the thing that distinguished many McCain and Palin rallies was the level of HATE that was stoked, and allowed to run free.

Nope - you're already poisoned, and it will take its course.

HKCAVALIER

Loath as I am these days to enter a discussion in the RWED (maybe we should change the name to Lord of the Fireflies), I feel the need to clarify something about Letterman and liberal cultural values.

Letterman is a liberal joking with a liberal audience. Liberals don't really have a problem with sexual promiscuity--particularly between consenting folk of 18 years or older. And liberals, who are not obsessed with Palin's personal life only really know about the one daughter, Bristol. Ask 50 liberals to name another Palin daughter and 49 will make something up like, Cockatoo.

So, anyway, the daughter was NEVER the subject/butt of the joke. It would be like a conservative comic making a "joke" about Palin's love of guns. That would never play with a conservative audience, now, would it? It's just not funny to them.

No, the joke is on Sarah. What makes it funny? 'Cause she's a christo-fascist nutjob who's kid is having unprotected sex, thus undercutting her mom's whole way of life. And the "slutty flight attendant look" is funny for the same reason. Not because there's anything wrong with actual slutty flight attendants, but that this christo-fascist nutjob feels the need to play one on tv.

That is all. I relinquish the conch.

'Cause I like ribbing you. Simple as that. I know you guys have answers to the terrorist stuff, but I like seeing the reaction it gets anyway. I don't recall comparing Obama's experience to Palin's, but I could be wrong. All I remember saying is that Obama had relatively little experience. But if you don't wanna admit that what I posted about McCain standing up for Obama had merit or that the pictures with the "C" word on them about Palin were equally despicable, that's okay. I won't hold it against you.

"All I remember saying is that Obama had relatively little experience."

And failed to note that Palin had less ... you see, it's that selective blindness. Get used to it.

As for what happened during the campaigns - it's matter of degree. McCain's and Palin's were often NOTED for the high degree of hate. Which McCain let run on for a long time before he said anything at all. And which Palin (as part of that campaign - remember ?) traded in to the very end.

But you'll never see that.

You will keep insisting that you're right - that Obama was JUST as bad, that Palin was JUST as exeprienced --- and frankly, all sorts of other delusional stuff.

BTW - Rap started out just like you. And he didn't get where he got in a day. He worked at it - just like you are doing. It starts with that first sip of pure blind partisanship. After that - it's all over.

"no reason to start accusing me of being delusional"

Why not ? You've (yet again) failed to address the MANY things you've stated that are clearly partisan. For a quick review, see below. B/c frankly, all I see are pathetic complaints against Obama and 'the left', and endless rationalizations, and weak excuses for McCain and Palin, and not ONE single criticism of them --- your BIG double standard is showing ...

Knowing the joke was in bad taste ... So, really, I don't think the apology was 100% authentic.

I think her anger is justified a little bit.

... assumption heaped upon her by lose on the left ...

But let's face it. We all screw up from time to time. (This one to excuse Bristol, but not Letterman.)

And to think it's okay to bring her kids into it is just hideous.

So your point is moot.

The Palin video has someone shout "treason". Not "terrorist".

There are two things wrong with this.

First of all, why is it okay if it is the 18 year old? The law says its okay for her to have consensual sex and you decide that means its okay to objectify her and disrespect her? I might be required to obey the law, but I don’t allow it to decide my morals or what I think is right or wrong. I don’t think an 18 year old kid is anymore deserving of being treated like trash then a 14 year old. So the question I have for you is, if it weren’t for the law scaring you off, why would you have any problem objectifying a 14 year old kid? What really is the difference in your mind, sans the law?

Hey, Finn, I'm sure you'll join every right-winger here in condemning Jongstraw for saying things like

Quote:

...does your 14-year old daughter want to be knocked-up by ARod, or even me per chance? What good sport!

After all, he's advocating rape of young girls, and in your mind, even if he were talking about 18-year-olds, it would be just as disgusting, right?

And clearly he's saying he likes fucking underage girls, so I'll be waiting for you and all your right-wing buddies to vilify him. Heck, you should probably call for him to be fired. WhoZit, I'm sure, will want Jongsy killed, just like he wanted Letterman dead.

Surely you'll want to put politics aside and tell me "good job!" for pointing out this kind of disgusting "humor" to you so you can denounce it, yes?

I'll wait. I won't hold my breath though.

Meanwhile, more than a day later, I'm still eagerly awaiting the right-wingers' vociferous denunciation of Jongstraw's hate speech and utterly tasteless jokes about raping underage girls.

C'mon, Finn - how can anyone here ever believe anything you say when you clearly exercise such a set of double standards?

I guess we can't. Not that I've ever put much credence in your words in the first place, but I think we can all plainly see which side your partisan bread is buttered on...

Yeah, Chris,Isall

RIP isn't as bad as Rap - yet. But then, Rap didn't start out being as bad as Rap. I'm just waving the yellow caution flag. At some point a little decision was reached in RIP's head. And he probably didn't even notice it - it was quick, and quiet. A momentary - yeah, I'm OK with that. That's how it started. And that is the path he is on now.

Okay. I'll play your game, but only because you seem to be on a rampage and unable to detect snark from me unless I intentionally put the smileys in there (and seem to ignore them when I do). Why is it that Kwicko and Chris can detect my attempts at humor and you can not? Ah well. Here we go.

Quote:

Knowing the joke was in bad taste ... So, really, I don't think the apology was 100% authentic.
I'm sorry, but I thought we were allowed to express opinion on this forum? I watched Letterman's initial apology and IMHO I didn't think it was 100% authentic (and the fact that he felt he had to apologize again kinda proves my point). I explained why I thought this, so please read it again. Nothing partisan about it.

Quote:

I think her anger is justified a little bit.
Again, this was just an opinion that I didn't think partisanship played into. She's a mother and I was looking at it from a mother's point of view. Not a Conservative former Republican VP nominee's point of view. Big difference there. In Letterman's second (and much more sincere apology, btw) he even admits that he would have been offended by his own joke.

Quote:

... assumption heaped upon her by lose on the left ...
I reserve the right as an American with free speech to claim it as I see it, that there are people on the left and people on the right. And like it or not, assumptions are heaped on people because of their party affiliation or religious beliefs. I'm sure you don't like it when people do it to you and I'm sure Sarah Palin doesn't either. That's just a basic human fact. Nothing intentionally partisan there.

Quote:

But let's face it. We all screw up from time to time. (This one to excuse Bristol, but not Letterman.)
I used the word "we" there for a reason. That WE ALL SCREW UP. That was intended to encompass all of humanity. I didn't just mean that as "we conservative republicans". Sorry if you took it that way. Of course, Letterman screwed up. It was joke in bad taste given the circumstances. Even he admits that now. My initial problem was that he apologized first, but that apology was in a joking manner in order to get more laughs. The second apology was much more sincere and heartfelt, so KUDOS to David for doing that.

Quote:

And to think it's okay to bring her kids into it is just hideous.
I fail to see how this is partisan. Sorry. Keep the kids out of it. Even Obama said so and I applauded him for initiating that during the campaign.

Quote:

So your point is moot.
I see your point here a little bit. That was said in complete jest and it was an inside joke only funny to me. Whenever I say that, there's an old SNL skit with Jesse Jackson in which he shoots down anything anybody says by using circular logic and ends it with "Your point is moot." I though it was funny anyway. My apologies for not explaining the inner joke sooner. Seriously.

Quote:

The Palin video has someone shout "treason". Not "terrorist".
That's just a simple fact. I watched/listened to the video Chris referred to and the person did, indeed, say "treason" not "terrorist" as he had indicated. Just bein' nitpicky.

Quote:

Must I go through the Bill Ayers thing again?
This is getting a little tiresome, but again, a little side joke I had going on with Kwicko (I think it was him anyway).

Quote:

With the stuff swirling around Obama that he seemingly got a pass on ...

if a relative newcomer to the Republican Party, only in the Senate for 2 years, with the connections that Obama had, would have gotten skewered by the MSM and the left

Just my point of view, Rue. Sorry if you don't like it.

Quote:

I never announced my intentions to run for public office at he man's house . . . or had dinner with him
Again, just some light-hearted sparring between me and Chrisisall that you apparently don't can't or don't want to see. And that's okay. But don't assume the worst in me because of it.

Like I said above... I can see and admit to the faults on both sides, Republicans when it's called for even. But I've also fully admitted that I can be partisan in my views depending on the subject matter. I've been nothing but open and honest here. At least I think I have. If Chris and Kwick can say things with a modicum of snark then I should be allowed the same courtesy and allowed the same chance to poke a little light-hearted fun. I'm active on other threads in this forum. Are you? Not just in RWED and have pretty good relationships with Chris and Kwicko there because of our other shared interests. So that will spill over onto RWED. Like it or not.

I'd also like to point out that when you and Signym announced your departure (or reduced input) from RWED, did you actually read what I wrote? Was I mean and celebrate your departure? No. I was very civil and gave you both heartfelt well wishes. Why? Because at some point in time there may actually be an opportunity to meet you people in real life. I do not want that moment to be filled with anxiety over what threats or mean looks we might trade. I honestly want to be able to shake your hand and tell you how good it is to finally meet you face to face.

So now . . . your turn.

Do you agree or not that McCain DID defend Obama on at least two occasions and that those shirts I linked to were vile and uncalled for. Kinda easy ain't it? You give me a plethora of things to "explain myself" about and I only give you one. What a bargain. I await your reply.

Ah yes. . . at some point I'm going to start railing about how all of you are stark-raving lunatics for not seeing things my way. That Rush is right and everyone else is wrong. Is that what you wanna hear? Sorry. You don't know me personally and intimately so I don't expect you to believe this. That ain't gonna happen. I hope to prove you wrong, Rue.

But really . . . and I say this with a bit of hesitancy . . . my comment about heaping assumptions on someone because of their political affiliation is starting to be expressed here . . . by you. Just a little bit. Dontchathink? You're jumping to conclusions that you can't prove. Just because I'm saying a few things you don't like or agree with you're automatically assuming the worst. And honestly I'm a bit offended. Not that I think you'll care about that.

Re-read some of my posts, too, why dontcha? I was never 100% in the McCain camp. In fact, I would have rather had a choice by the time the Ohio primary came and went but it was basically all over by then. He was it.

I know you guys WANT another Rappy, but it ain't gonna be me. Sorry. I hope you guys have seen that I admit my faults, admit when I seem to be wrong, etc. I'm going to try and NOT get drawn into kitty ping-pong fights and I'm certainly not going to be the first to start hurling personal insults.

I'm sorry, but every time someone from the right starts an argument or a disagreement (even when done with a generous amount of snark), it seems lately the first thing you guys jump to is "You're starting to get like AURaptor!"

As to your last paragraph, you'll see just in this thread that I have pointed out via video links where McCain stood up for Obama and pictures from Obama rallies where people wore simply disgusting shirts describing Palin. So whenever I try to make a serious point, at least I try to prove my point with credible links, even linking to Huffington Post from time to time.

Looks like I'm late to the party, but for the record, I don't find Ripper to be much at all like Rappy. I've had good discussion with Rip, we've both made our points and given ground on other points; there's a DISCUSSION going on instead of a shouting match.

Just sayin'.

And Rip, I don't think we're looking for another Rappy. Not including you, we've still got several Rappy Juniors flitting around here.

HKCavalier

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Right on. When I first heard the quip, that was what I thought of - Bristol Palin. 'Course, as I pointed out before, when you're talking about the Palins and you mention "daughter" and "knocked up" in the same breath, Bristol would seem to be rather implied.

Palin accepted Letterman's apology.

Letterman's ratings are through the roof.

Next time he should spout a more offensive joke, and then apologize after. His ratings should then triple what they are currently.

Did he plan for all this to happen?

RIP

"... I thought we were allowed to express opinion ... Again, this was just an opinion ... I reserve the right as an American with free speech to claim it ...Just my point of view, Rue."

It's not that you shouldn't express your opinion.
It's not that you can't express your opinion.
It's not that you don't have a point of view.

It's your OPINION I disagree with. It's very, very partisan. Not just a little.

"... and the fact that he felt he had to apologize again kinda proves my point ..."

No, he had to apologize again b/c people on the right (your people) wouldn't let it go. It had nothing to do with his joke - which was TRIVIAL. It had everything to do with people --- like you.

"... She's a mother and I was looking at it from a mother's point of view."

If Palin hadn't wanted her children to be brought into it, she should never have carted them around wherever she went and brought them on stage for POLITICAL events like life-awards trophies.

Get it ?

"I can see and admit to the faults on both sides, Republicans when it's called for even ..."

And you can point to one instance where you did that ?

"I used the word "we" there for a reason."

And then wrote exclusively about Bristol. So, if I am to take the context of Letterman's joke into account - shouldn't I take yours as well ? Oh wait, that's only fair when YOU want to hang someone. Right ?

"... did you actually read what I wrote?"

No - and sorry to not. My time here has gotten to be VERY limited - a few minutes in months - at best.
