Well, it took 40 years, but justice finally caught up with that evil fat bastard.

The ghost of Mary Jo Kopechne cursed his rotten brain.

Umm, Sky's a Likudnik - he wouldn't know what human decency IS, much less have any.

Not that I ever thought highly of Ted myself, but compared to his contemporaries he was practically a freakin piker when it came to malfeasance.

All the Kennedy brothers had tragic deaths. Gunshots or lingering disease...not sure which is worse. My sympathy to his family.

Now Ted Kennedy and I disagreed on many things, taxes, abortion, DUI laws, bridge construction, missile defense, the Commies, global warming, terrorism, every weapon system currenty in use by the United States Armed Forces, David Hasslehoff, hairstyle, Barbara Steisand, proper grammer, Vietnam, gas milage, obesity, the elderly, children, marriage, divorce, health care, pet care, foot care, care, Bush, GW-Bush, Clinton, Reagan, trade policy, crime, Red Sox, prison reform, school reform, education, teacher pay, unions, feminism, how he treated women, sailing...really everything short of the value of a good bourbon at the end of the day.

That said...he was an honost liberal, a man you could argue with in style and walk away friends who disagree. I've wanted him gone for twenty years...I never once wanted him dead. Wish him well and no hard feelings. I suspect he's having a long conversation with God...man's been in sore need of a 'come to Jesus' moment.

"Ok Teddy...here's where you got it wrong...go ahead and pull up a cloud, make yourself comfortable...this is going to take awhile."

Moving on...Senator Romney?

Sky and the two Pirates:

You make me ill. I can't believe you'd be such visigoths...the man died a terrible death, it's just sickening you'd take joy in it. I guess that tells me who YOU are, not who he was.

I'm broken hearted he didn't live long enough to see healthcare reform (if we even GET it this time around), he worked so hard for it.

I don't care what your opinion of the man, he worked hard for what he believed in and had a helluvalot more honor than many I could think of. He did a bad thing when he was younger, but I don't believe for a minute that's the entire story of the man. It wouldn't have been but a small story if he weren't a Kennedy; as it was, he was made to pay for it the rest of his life. It was wrong and a young woman died...that's bad enough; to measure his entire life by that and wish for veangance is pathetic.

I feel sorry for the family, tho' I have mixed feelings about the Kennedy legacy. I was a teenager when the two died, and mourned Bobby's death most of all; I think he had promise. But the legacy was as much to blame for their deaths as anything else; they were raised into politics and had little choice back then.

My heart goes out to Carolyn, I know they were really close. I just learned of his death, I'm broken hearted. He was a good man, whatever you think of his politics, and I hope your karma comes around on you; taking joy in the death of someone is a sign of a sick mind.

I was sorry to hear of his passing, as well. I didn't agree with a majority of his politics, but I hear tell that he was a fierce friend even to those who opposed him politically and that says a lot about him. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I hope the people of Massachusetts have two great candidates to chose from in the special election that's bound to happen now.

Its telling that the Kennedys were idealized as building a new "Camelot".

The idea of fealty to a king... does that really fly here?

The difference between England and America is as simple as this...

They are "subjects".... WE are CITIZENS.

Our government is beholden to US (or should be), not the other way around.

So, dying a hard way (like brain cancer) sucks. But I cannot say that this man did a good job of being a representative of the people.

I hope not. He manages well, but he's a crook underneath the clean-cut stepford-esque looks and personality. Salt Lake City has a history with him, and while most other people around here might be willing to overlook his misdemeanors because of his LDS affiliation, I am not.

I didn't know Ted Kennedy apart from his politics and Senate history. It's sad, like when anyone dies, and not something to rejoice in no matter how they led their life.

Not real up one your Arthurian lore, are you?

Camelot championed the idea that the King and the nobility were servants of the people they ruled. They gained their honor and glory by championing the rights of the weak and the innocent.

The Round Table was based on the idea of equality under the law...not above it. That might was not 'right' but rather should be 'for right'.

It was a utopian vision, a shining City on a hill and in many was a reflection of Plato's Republic with its Philosopher King and Guardians for whom justice was the principal focus of the State.

The story of Arthur and Camelot was that while the ideas and ideals of the time were pure...man was a flawed creature. While the pursuit was ultimately doomed by typical human failings like greed and lust...the quest for a more perfect union was and remains a mission worthy of men.

They also slayed dragons and looked for lost dishes.

And believe me, I can alienate his base so fast your head would spin, cause say whatever else you will about Mormons, they do care about their kids and on average treat em better than most folk.

I show em where Romneys money comes from, they go from supporters to lynch mob in three seconds flat.

That man ain't NEVER climbing out that hole, not so long as me and mine are still around to kick him back in it where he belongs.

The difference between America and England today is nothing like that. The king/queen are mere figureheads almost entirely, while the Parliament, which IS elected, runs the country.

To say otherwise is to be ignorant of the actual governing of both countries.

That's a joke, aside from the fact that it's mere semantics, don't kid yourself that we're not subjects...the past eight years showed that quite clearly. Just because that term is used doesn't make it true.

The idea of violent revolution (if that's what you're proposing) doesn't fly, for me. Who 'ya gonna put in place? Anyone put in authority by force is going to turn into a dictator, pure and simple.

If you mean by nonviolent revolution, you'd have to get a TON of Americans to go for it, and that's not gonna happen, as I see it. Given we haven't even managed a viable third party, firing up enough people to change things in any major way just isn't feasible; too many people are, and always will be, only interested in their day-to-day lives to be brought together as any force, and the two-party system is too firmly entrenched in people's minds for them to think otherwise. IMHO

Oh, boy, Janye, me TOO! I've given up watching TV for the interim, knowing what to expect, and am renting DVDs until it quiets down.

I'm really sick of, everytime someone really famous dies, getting nothing but nonstop coverage and "tributes", etc. There IS more going on than that, but the media gets obsessed with stuff like that until it drives me nuts.

How long y'think I'll have to avoid TV news before they get tired of THIS one, too? I mean, Michael Jackson is still floating around, tho' yes, I realize there's controversy still going on, which won't be the case for Kennedy. Nonetheless, I'm sick of it before it even starts!

"There IS more going on than that, but the media gets obsessed with stuff like that until it drives me nuts."

Remember the OJ Simpson wall to wall coverage ? How about the Monica Lewinsky drone ?

Why did that happen ?

1) Commercial television news is NOT about reporting the news. It IS about bringing a target audience to the network to watch the commercials. That increases profit. Whatever brings more of that audience to the show will be what they air.

2) Networks, and more importantly their parent companies who work behind the scenes, edit the news to conform to a business-friendly message. Yes, that includes politically-friendly (or unfriendly) messages. Important topics will be dropped and trivial topics will be inflated to create a highly manipulated viewpoint.

3) News per se is claimed to be an operating loss. In order to reduce that 'loss' networks will report official statements AS IF they are real news, often the 'news' will consist of one official statement after another, with no independent research, or even any records search for related news items from the past.

Kennedy's death is a godsend to the media. However much you or I might complain about 24/ 7 whatever (OJ or Specter or Lewinsky or Ted), it increases viewer-ship. And it requires no research or other time-consuming tasks on their part. AND it meets all their self-imposed limitations they have to work around: it's not business-unfriendly, it's got an 'aren't we grand to be praising this man' meme and so on.

Aint for-profit news wonderful ?

Actually it was the OJ circus that finally convinced me that stupid box wasn't worth the trouble.

And what with the move to Digital, a lotta folk thought to themselves "why bother" cause the programming sucks so bad.

You're welcome to join us, I'd not deprive something of something they really wanted, mind you - but damned if I feel the need to inflict it upon myself.

The fact that Firefly caused me to lift the embargo is probably the strongest endorsement I can give of the shows quality - and you bet your sweet bippy it came right back down with a bang when Fux cancelled it.

Lots of people die terrible deaths. What's your point? Saddam died a terrible death - does that mean I should celebrate and do the dance of joy when Dubya kicks it? Shall I say "WOO-HOO!" when Cheney finally breathes his last?
