It's a great trick. Freedomworks and the Tea Party folks managed to change the numbers HUGELY, and it's all over the internet by now. If anyone wondered..."/>

How many were at 9/12?

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...
Quote:President Obama drew 15,000 people to hear him pitch his health care overhaul in Minnesota this past Saturday. Meanwhile back in Washington, we had that many people waiting in line at the port-a-potties at the Taxpayer March on Washington because we woefully underestimated how many people would travel across the country to bring their message of limited government and fiscal responsibility to DC. We’re trying to figure out exactly how many people were here so we can release a reliable number. If we had 1.5 million, we had 100 times the president’s turnout. If we had 750,000, we had 50 times as many, and if we had 300,000, we still had 20 people for every one he had. Any of those numbers puts the Taxpayer March on Washington among the biggest ever in DC, and certainly the biggest showing by fiscal conservatives. But the specific number is not important. We thought the sound system we got to reach 100,000 would have been enough. Most of the people in attendance couldn’t hear the speakers. We thought the permits for park space for 100,000 would be enough. It wasn’t nearly enough. And don’t even get me started on the port-a-potties.
Quote:based off of news reports and comments from leaders in the Tea Party movement, it looks like Saturday’s event is going to be a huge gathering, estimates ranging from hundreds of thousands to 2 million people.
Quote:"12:34pm Eastern: Police estimate 1.2 million in attendance. ABC News reporting crowd at 2 million — tweets Tabitha Hale from D.C." Update: Tabitha Hale says Parks & Rec estimated 1.2 million.
Quote:An ABC News correspondent says it wasn’t national ABC News network that reported 2 million figure. I take them at their word — and am checking to find out more info.
Quote:“When left-wing activists make crowd estimates, the algorithm is: Six figures = one million.” Safe to say, by liberal math standards, today’s turnout rivaled the “Million Man March” and the “Million Mom March” for sure.
Quote:Conservative activists, who organized a march on the U.S. Capitol today in protest of the Obama administration’s health care agenda and government spending, erroneously attributed reports on the size of the crowds to ABC News. Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks, the group that organized the event, said on stage at the rally that ABC News was reporting that 1 million to 1.5 million people were in attendance. At no time did ABC News, or its affiliates, report a number anywhere near as large. ABCNews.com reported an approximate figure of 60,000 to 70,000 protesters, attributed to the Washington, D.C., fire department. In its reports, ABC News Radio described the crowd as “tens of thousands.” Brendan Steinhauser, spokesman for FreedomWorks, said he did not know why Kibbe cited ABC News as a source. As a result of Kibbe’s erroneous attribution, several bloggers and commenters repeated the misinformation.
Quote:This morning on ABC’s Good Morning America, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) embraced the protesters at today’s 9/12 March in Washington, DC, saying that he was “glad they’re here to take back their country.” He characterized the attendees as nonpartisan, adding that “it’s not about President Obama. It’s not about the Democrats.”
Quote:My nephew is at this gig, (poor child, he’s been led astray) and he talked to a Park Ranger who compiles the crowd estimates–30,000 tops. Look at it this way, if one person occupies 4 square feet (2′x2′) then a crowd 3600 feet long by 36′ feet wide is 10,000 people. Nowhere have any street cams shown a crowd over a mile long. The pictures plainly show each person taking up more than four square feet, each respecting each others space. An aerial shot does not show the crowd going much beyond the Washington Memorial–a distance considerably less than 3600 fee though the Mall is wider, with a huge reflecting pool taking about 40% of the space between the Washington monument and the where the stage is. 2 million people? Absolutely no way. 30,000 is pushing it. My nephew says the Chicago Marathon has crowds bigger than this rally.

Quote:And every single time you think you've found an "objective" news site on the internet, start looking at who's behind it. Who did the web design, who's hosting it, who's supporting it? You'd be surprised, I guarantee it. Those "patriotic" names ("FreedomWorks", "Americans for Progress", and the like) are usually a harbinger of a hard-right PAC backing them, usually with behind-the-scenes slush funds, almost always hired by K Street lobbying firms who themselves have been hired on by the insurance industry, the pharmaceutical companies, and the for-profit healthcare industry.

You could tell from the pictures...it was more the 100,000 but certainly less then 200,000. That does not count the other protests like the one in Texas that drew 20,000. It may not be the largest protest staged in Washington, but its the largest protest ever staged by conservatives and its merely part of an ongoing nationwide effort. H "Hero. Quote:As one person I heard on TV said; the anger is real, it may be orchestrated but it plays to the base. By making people think it's not only "real" but shared by a MILLION people, it gives it heft. He said "who knows, in a short time maybe even the MSM will be calling it 1 million".

Quote:Personally, I don't know a single person who ever spat on a soldier; we protested the war because it was WRONG, and because we didn't want our soldiers dying and coming home wounded for life or mentally screwed up for some damned war which was wrong in the first place. That in no way makes the SOLDIERS someone for us to hate! Did you completely miss the concept of "No blood for oil"?
