Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I think if your assets can be liquidated to equal 1 million dollars, and if you earn more than 10,000 dollars per month, I'd consider you at the low threshold of wealthy.

Less than that is probably upper middle class.

And this is just a feeling. It's not based on anything other than thinking, "That would feel like a lot of money."

Hello Dream,

A lot of your statements just make no sense to me at all, and I don't even know how to begin tackling the disconnect.

I can help there, Anthony.

He means after you get done being someones debt bitch, how much is really left.

Case in point: The ex-fremgirl makes in an hour what I make in a day, and who is helping WHO with the bills, there ?

Student Loans, Mortgage, Car Payment + Mandatory Full Coverage Insurance, Income Taxes (which are WAY worse as an independent contractor, lemme tell you!), Fancy clothes (needful for the business environment), Credit Line*, Homeowners Insurance, Health Insurance, paying the bills the Insurance doesn't cover (which is most of em) out of pocket...

All that shit adds up, and it adds up hard and quick, for a fact there's people in the 50K-90K income range who live like poor college students, some of whom I get a good laugh at, cause by the time they can even afford to put money away (which often enough winds up used to cover emergencies and thus is climbing a slippery, uphill slope) - they'll never be able to sock away ENOUGH to do any goddamn good cause inflation will eat it's value faster than they can put it there.

And that's if they are fortunate, if they are LUCKY, if their 401K doesn't crash, if their property value doesn't plummet, if they don't get sick or hurt and find out the hard way what that oh so expensive health insurance is really worth...

Oh, yeah, and don't get outsourced or laid off.

At least Dream is gonna be able to eat the tomatoes when all else fails, those poor "wealthy" bastards making $100k ?
Not so much, and they are just as often one step from oblivion, walking the tightrope of debt they assumed in order to climb into those august ranks of idiocy.

Really, how many of you are living one serious illness away from financial armageddon, eh ?

Me, I'm set - short of outright death, my only real problems are the fekkin taxman eatin it quicker than I can make it, and concern for less fortunate others if the boom ever does come down with a bang, and it saddens me to watch folk try and try to "get ahead" only to fall further and further behind because the lie of "success" is really just a greased hamster wheel.

Thanks be that knowledge is (for now!) a non taxable commodity, though...

*The Credit Line is for vehicular repairs, since HER idea of maintainence is run it till it breaks and then call for help - damn truck has bad front ball joints and the whole power steering system is leakin fluid every bloody where.

Hello,

Explaining it that way makes a lot more sense, Frem.

Though presumably there are people who earn 100k that don't have the same debt challenges? I mean, if someone made you CEO of FremSecure tomorrow, and paid you a 100k salary, you would presumably be breathing easier and not harder, yes?

Maybe, but it's not just about having it, either, it's also about having access to it, and a lot of people who have big money keep it tied up in schemes and places to keep the tax vultures from chewing on it, so it's not exactly ready at hand sometimes.

I got to laugh pretty hard at two-star (ex general, CEO of a middling big corp) when the dipshit allowed his AMEX card to expire and had neither the cash, nor additional resources to cover a restaurant bill - AND I had to front him a gas fillup besides.

That was the LAST time he mocked me for carrying a "gamblers roll" on me, too.

What is also good about it,is that the VAT has already been added to the product before you get to the till. The price you see is the price you pay. What irks me so much about shopping in the US is that you have to reckon up more on top of the price ticket. When a cab driver advertises $45 dollars from the airport to Manhattan, I expect to pay that plus tip, not suddenly be stung for sales tax aswell. Slag us off if you will, but at least we aren't hit with hidden charges.
