Personally, I fear that crop failure (particularly in the third world) poses a definite threat. http://www.ucl.ac.uk/news/news-articles/0601/06010302/ http://www.ucl.ac.uk/news/news-articles/0601/06010302/ The laughing Chrisisall

But if the oceans aren't circulating, it messes up the wind patterns over the ocean, and land ocean air mass exchange, and you could actually end up with some very cold continents. But, it's a theory. Climate change is hard to predict, so I don't put a lot of stake in the predictions, and it's also pretty sensationalized IMO. ...I think SOMETHING is happening, it's hard to tell what considering since 1998 (and here, 1995) even the "hockey-stick graph" has shown global temperatures plateauing in the southern hemisphere, which causes a plateau on the graph averaged between northern hemisphere and southern hemisphere, even though the northern hemisphere is still getting hotter... But something is happening, again not sure what. Whatever it is, it'll probably be another 100 years or so before we see any effect beyond strengthened storms and worsened droughts that we've measured. Reduce pollution in general is a good idea on it's own merits. Also possibly reducing rate of deforestation, looking into sustainability, biodiversity, waste management, and etc. Definitely I think it would be smart for each individual to take control of their own energy production, relying on the Department of Energy and the government regulated power grid has never made much sense to me. There's just some common sensical things to be doing, whether or not global warming or climate change is happening.

As to crops and climate change; where's Frem? He's spoken most eloquently on it, I believe, unless it was Byte or Sig, who also have addressed it well. I don't know enough to address it myself, I just know that the food situation is so precariously balanced (if THAT in some places) currently, that any major change would be dramatic.

Well here I am just hearing about the club myself. It's tempting to join, but on the other hand, I do so enjoy mocking ol' Rap. But what the hell, I'll give it a shot. Not "refuse to engage" or "refuse to argue" or "refuse to be drawn into his name-calling", but REFUSE TO EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE THAT HE'S HERE OR THAT HE POSTED ANYTHING. We just carry on with the conversation like he never even said a word. Just a thought. But I think we'd have to get a whole bunch of people signed on for it to work. Otherwise, just keep snarking the living shit out of every single thing he posts in RWED. Or in any of the other areas, for that matter.

If it sounds like something you'd like to try, then welcome aboard, jump on in, the water's fine, and all that good stuff. :) Basically, when Rappy tries to jump in with his BS, the conversation just kinda goes, "Hey, did you hear something? A little whine or buzz? Oh, well... S'wenyways, what were we talking about? Oh yeah..." ... and then back to your regularly-scheduled debate. It's an idea. Then, for some reason, they threw in the 35 percent 'very likely' as their own group, even though they already added that number to the 'somewhat likely' percentage. Then they mashed together the 'not very likely' and 'not likely at all' groups, and threw the 15 percent who were unsure into the waste bin. Voila -- 120 percent."
