As much as I love topless women what are they trying to prove? They have civil rights protection what does this prove?

Mostly it's a double standard they're protesting against, where men are allowed to remove their shirts but for women it's indecent exposure and flashing.

The main problem lies on hot days when women are working on a job. Men might be able to remove their shirts, which allows their skin to breathe and the sweat to evaporate easier, which facilitates cooling, but women would have to keep their shirts on and risk heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

For me, if that ever becomes an issue, I just wear a modest sports bra underneath. I don't really know why anyone would want to see someone's nipples. Especially on some guys. I'm thinking about the hair... XP

At last, a cause worth supporting.

I pray for one last landing,
on the globe that gave me birth.
Let me rest my eyes on the fleecy skies
and the cool, green hills of Earth.

The irony is that in Portland, it's already perfectly legal for women to walk around topless. Only displaying genitalia is considered indecent. So they were actually protesting a double standard that doesn't even exist there.

Maybe it's an attempt to raise awareness for other cities.

Topless is legal in Portland? Damn damn DAMN, I'm on my way! I love Oregon anyway, beautiful country, my kinda climate, a Coast more gorgeous than our own. But topless? I'm moving.

I agree with everything you said, Byte, and then some! Maybe that's why they held it there, if it's legal. I haven't worn a bra in decades; I wear a jogging bra (is that what you meant by "sports bra'?) in Summer, and under my t-shirt the rest of the year so if it gets hot I can take the t-shirt off. My ex-ranger friend up in the Sierras always hiked the back country topless, said if any other hiker was bothered, they could damned well take another trail! I always joined her, but hiking our Mountain here, it wouldn't be "kosher".

That "demonstration" (12 people??) wouldn't be noticed by anyone but the tourists down here, you can see someone in different forms of undress (and DRESS!) in SF, especially in the Castro, any time of the day or night.

However, this is just plain silly:
Quote:

Ty McDowell, who organized the march, said she was "enraged" by the turnout of men attracted to the demonstration. The purpose, she said, was for society to have the same reaction to a woman walking around topless as it does to men without shirts on.

However, McDowell said she plans to organize similar demonstrations in the future and said she would be more "aggressive" in discouraging oglers.

"Enraged"?!? What universe does SHE live in? If she's expecting anything but a large crowd of males drooling after/around them, she's nuts. We know about men and the mammary gland!

Whatever the "purpose" might have been, the "result" will always be in the REAL world! Besides, I like to look at boobies too, they're purty...

I'm with ya, good idea, wrong attitude.
Because of the idiotic double standards and stupid peek-a-boo games with acceptance/denial of our own sexuality on a social level, sure, some folks are gonna stare, so fekkin what.

Sure, that might not have been the attention they wanted, but when you go seeking attention in that fashion, a good understanding of cause and effect combined with a little common sense would allow one to *exploit* it, to use it, instead of bitchin about it - I woulda been heckling the oglers and insisting that if they were gonna gawk, go quid pro quo and show some man boobie then!

Nekkid people do bug me a little, since I *am* something of a prude, but not so much imma let it freak me out - considerin how many pagan folk I know (who find this bloody hilarious given what a rough character I am otherwise) it's not like that kinda thing has all that much impact with me - but for myself, I like pockets and lots of em!

As for the 70's bein "over" - I gotta set of bellbottoms and a tiedye in my closet that seriously disagrees with you, and yes, I damn well *did* show up at the Hash Bash wearing it, thankee muchly!

MINCINGBEAST

like it or not, boobies on a lady are considered a sexual characteristic. on a man, less so. if ladies want to dispaly their boobies in public, it should not come as a surprise when men stare at their boobies, and in staring totally miss whatever political point the lady was trying to make by displaying her revolting boobies.

so, the take away: feel shame about your body. for serious.

Right on Frem! (and Mincing, except for the last sentence...) You know, it doesn't surprise ME that you're "shy" about nudity. I'm not sure why...tried to think of why it didn't surprise me, but I can't come up with an answer. Just that somehow it "fits" you. Go figger.

And oh, bellbottoms... Women's pants were always too short for me, but I loved bellbottoms. So I took a pair of pants, cut it at the knees, and sewed on little "skirts" to make my own. Black, of course Boy, did I look stupid, I'm sure!

Only pair I ever bought that was long enough for me came from Fredericks' of Hollywood...hee, hee, hee, anyone remember them?

Also - after hearing girls and women of many ages blathering on about a shirtless Taylor Lautner in New Moon (not that there aren't other examples too).... how "double" is the standard, really?

Seems they were more than happy to oogle a shirtless man (which became slightly creepy when it was 40-50-something women baying over a 17 year old boy). But it's bad when men do it?

Its the lack of support most people are objecting to.

Myself...I'm in favor of hot topless women (in fact it should be encouraged...perhaps with some form of tax incentive or some dollar bills), if they are not hot...cover them up. I'm not saying put a bag over their heads...just show a little restraint.
