Thankfully, the Pirates of the Caribbean were fighting monopoly corporatism (East India Trading Company). And Star Wars showed what fear and hatred can do to even the best of us.

Did you know that Joss used the USA as the paradigm for the Alliance? And I know that because he said so. It's not conjecture on my part. Think about it.

Except the whole slavery thing, which southerners like to keep forgetting. The Browncoats, as you recall, weren't much into slavery.

Gonna add: although you watched the movies, you apparently only got half the story. (And with FF, even less than half, because of that slavery issue.)

In each movie you named, the government had its evil corporate twin:

The Alliance had Blue Sun.

V had its pharmaceutical company.

And Star Wars had its Corporate Alliance.

Corporations are not your salvation. The moviemakers put that into their movies, but you didn't see it.

STORYMARK

It's funny watching morons try to twist something to fit their narrative. This Robin Hood movie is primarily about Robin Fighting a corrupt leader-yes, as a way to support the King he did believe in. But teabaggers were claiming it's their movie before they saw a frame of it.

Especially the tool that wrote that article. He actually claims that this Robin is more true to the myth and folklore than the Robin Hood of myth and folklore. Complete idiot.

Of course Wulfie would latch on.

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."

First off, i was talking about V (the new TV show)...

Second, what the hell? Im a "corporatist"?

Good lord girl...

I've single handedly stymied a very LARGE corporation from its more "evil" endevours.

I know exactly how and what corporations are good for. And when they are not.

And while it may be an issue for you, sorry sweetie...

the governement is still larger and much more in need of being dealt with.

Heh.

Ok.

The CFO of the company I was working for was taking the money the investors put in, and funeling it to himself, his SON (the CEO), and COO. (Don't get me started on cronyism)

They were all working together to strip the investors of their money, while using the payroll to boost their "earnings".

Not to mention, threatening old ladies to pay their bills "or else". Else being they would be sued into homelessness, or worse.

I kind of let slip their emails, and the REAL diversion of liquidity, out.

Last I heard, the CFO ran all the way to Argentina, while the other two took one way trips to Mexico.

The corporation was restructured, and from what I know... they are doing things above board.

So yeah, its the small things sometimes.

A few emails, a couple of passwords, and a friendly smile is all you need to stop some forms of evil in the world.

crowe is great at masculine brooding, but robin hood is best when he's a little bit swishy. or at least dashing. i am suspicious of a tormented robin hood, but will see the cursed thing anyway. because its robin hood, and one of my child hood ambitions was to capture and execute robin hood.

EDIT: also, most libertarians would probably like to think of themselves as more crowe than flynn, i bet. sign of the times i fear.

Anthony, he took off for a while after I explained to him in extreme detail how property taxes are collected, what they finance, and how you actually *need* and would want a lot of the services they buy you - along with an encouragement to get involved in local politics and figure out how the hell it works so he could spot the abuses easier - kind of an on the job training that I was fully willing to support.

So, he buggers off...

Comes back a while later, screaming at the top of his lungs and fervently supporting the very propaganda he was at that time questioning.

So figure reality was a bit less comforting than his precious myths, and he chose to embrace them instead, good little brownshirt that he is.

Now, when he started chuggin the kool-aid, fine, dandy, his choice, his life - but when he comes here tryin to pour it on us, imma chew his ass good and proper, cause he wussed out when it counted, and that's a chance you ONLY ever get once, from me.

Oh, I got a hell of a kick out of it.

Wulfie is a walking ball of hypocrisy. He claims to be about liberty - at least for white people; others need to show their papers. He says he's about free speech - then says he wants to round up all the "progressives" in one place, hinting at some nefarious purpose for doing so. He claims to value life above all else - yet when I stated that if I were an Arizona cop I'd be asking open-carrying people for their papers just to be sure they were legal citizens, he said he'd be happy to fill me full of .40-caliber holes.

Every single thing Wulfie claims to want to do to others, is the exact same kind of thing he screams "Tyranny!" about if anyone suggests doing it to him. That, my friends, is a textbook illustration of hypocrisy. And that's Wulfie's stock in trade.

So it really should come as no surprise that he hails a movie about redistribution of wealth as a paragon of tea-bagging values. It tells me that he doesn't understand the story, or he doesn't understand his own values. Or he doesn't understand either one.

HINT TO WULFIE: BrownSHIRTS, not brownCOATS, so don't get a warm fuzzy feeling about brownshirts by mistake. Brownshirts were Hitler's "stormtroopers", a paramilitary organization that went around using their guns to intimidate dark-skinned people, gays, socialists, communists, and other anti-corporatists, foreigners, and Jews.

But we know YOU wouldn't do that, would you?

Actually, Wulfie, I *DID* read the Arizona bill before I denounced it. You may not recall, but I posted sections of it here, and went into explicit detail what some of the suspect wording in the bill actually MEANS.

Did you read the entire bill before celebrating it? Did you read the healthcare reform bill before denouncing it? What about the Bush Bailouts? Did you read all of those?

Kind of a trend.

Shouldn't you be WORKING when you're at work? Shouldn't you save your personal web-surfing for your personal time? I mean, if you're all about responsibility and doing the job right, and all that stuff you like to claim. Funny that the only time you have to hang out in online chat rooms is when you're supposed to be working. Wonder what your new bosses would think of that behavior.

Down boy, down!
Damn Mikey, there are times when your snarky reaction reminds me of an exciteable, over-friendly dog.. and they say people don't resemble their pets, meh heh.

Hell, I post from "work" technically, either from the on-site office, or if the weather is nice, or I feel the need to monitor the site, from a laptop on one of the picnic tables using an encrypted wireless link to the office, and that gets a might interesting when it's eight below out there and snowing.

btw, snow has some of the same insulating properties as wax or lead, and cause of the range, if it's still falling will muck up wireless reception, did you know that ?

But that's why many of my posts come in those 15-20 minute spurts.

The machine I use is a heavily modified and ruggedised Asus EEE700 series with hardware self destruct, one of the more profitable ideas the Geekfarm came up with cause they do the mod for a couple security companies, some of which are obvious fronts.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Quote:

The Sheriff of Nottingham is Robin's chief opponent; at the time, it was the sheriffs' role as tax collectors in particular that made them objects of loathing by peasants and commoners. Robin Hood is also frequently shown helping men who face barbaric punishments for hunting in the royal forests, a pursuit permitted to nobles and strictly forbidden to the lower classes in medieval England; in other words, he is opposing privilege bestowed by political power, not earned wealth.
I must have missed incarnations of Robin Hood...because that’s what I go out of it. I didn’t see any robbing of the rich to give to the poor, just fighting the oppressive ptb. But then, the only RH I ever saw was the TV show.

Doubt I’ll see this; not a fan of Scott (except for “Bladerunner”) OR Crowe (who I thought was great, until he turned all moody and macho). Robin Hood is a legend; whatever historical fact is, as portrayed he was swashbuckling, and that’s what he stands for. Crowe couldn’t buckle his swash if his life depended on it.

But the interpretations leave me blank; the Tea Party isn’t about taxes, as taxes have been LOWERED; they’re not about freedom, as they approve of the Papers Please Law; they hated health care reform, which means they love the way the insurance company monopolies gouge us; and for all their hatred of government, they went downright ballistic at the thought of losing their Medicare. What they SAY and how they actually THINK are two different things, so any corollary based on their talking points is unreal.

I adore Men in Tights. It just came around and I tuned in right at the song, and giggled my way through it. Have just stuck it on my Netflix list...it’s been too long. But the Tea Party IS NOT ABOUT TAXES! If they were, they’d have appeared during Dumbya’s administration, when

“a fighter for freedom from tyranny” is what I got out of the series, with very little taking from the rich and giving to the poor. I must have missed a lot.

As to taxes, yes, Bush cut them more than Clinton, but we don’t know what Obama’s record will be in the end, and so far he’s cut taxes. So the Tea Party isn’t against taxes, it’s against OBAMA, period.

As to Firefly being socialist, bullshit in my opinion. All decisions were made by Mal, SOLELY; that’s not socialist. Yes, they shared and shared alike, but it wasn’t socialism, it was one ship with a captain. Comparison to a socialist system is fallacious.

Nonetheless, if Wulfwind is posting from work, I find that—well, no, I WOULD find that amazing, if it weren’t for the impression I’ve gotten of him by now. Pure RWA follower, folks, remember “holding two different contradictory opinions”? and “spouting what those they look up to say without thinking”? Pure RWA; he has yet to do anything that surprises me, once I grokked that fact, and the fact that he’s here to stir up trouble, nothing more.

But when I was part of the working world and had free time, I found something else to work at. Maybe I’m nuts, but the idea of posting...both the volume and speed at which he responds...while “on the clock” never occurred to me, and if he’s doing it, then his ACTIONS also refute his words. Isn’t he on another forum as well? What does he DO that he’s got that much free time on the job? I’d find that kind of job terribly boring!

As to “single-handedly” stymieing a large corporation, that’s delusional. Wulf-wind did a good thing, but he had no power to do it “single handedly”—to view it thus is to see oneself as a hero, which is typical of his seeing himself as the heroes in fantasies (movies, etc.) he constantly posts.

I don’t think Mike’s excitable, I think he just giggles when WulfWind posts something he knows he can throw back in his face, which I can understand. Maybe I’m not libertarian enuff, but to me someone who lauds how wonderful the corporate world would be if unfettered has no concept of what the REAL corporate world is, where when caught spending as much time on line as he seems to, you’re quickly out of a job! Or else the ompany ends up going belly up because there are too many others doing the same!

Frem, I fear you missed my point, and I was sure you'd be the first to catch my meaning. The REASON we have such things as breaks in our workday in the first place - and the ONLY reason we have them - is because of those "progressive, liberal, socialist, communistic" LABOR UNIONS that fought and scraped to tear such concessions away from the corporatists in the first place. Ditto the 8-hour work day, the 40 hour week, the lunch break, some modicum of safe work conditions, etc.

That Wulfie and many others here (I daresay *most*, including myself) are even ABLE to post here during the workday is because of the work done by people Wulf and his ilk would just as soon round up, spit on, curse, and kill if given half a chance. He wants all the spoils of the fight, but is completely unwilling to actually FIGHT for the spoils.

That's beautiful in its simplicity and eloquence, Niki. That sums them up perfectly. We KNOW what the tea parties AREN'T for; what they've never been able to articulate is what they ARE for. They might as well just have as their slogan, "I'm for nebulous words with mushy, positive connotations!"

Now, as to my excitability... Guilty as charged. But that's actually amazingly UNLIKE my dog. Which is weird, considering that in just about every other way she's quite a bit like me. She's neurotic about certain things, she's quite shy around people (it took literally MONTHS before I ever got to touch her, she was so feral when I found her), she doesn't trust easily, and she NEVER trusts completely - not even me. I recognize why, and I cut her slack because I know why she's the way she is, because I see the same things in myself.
