Wow, thanks, Piratenews! (and yes for that little moment of Zen I will actually go to the trouble of typing out your whole handle instead of my usual abbrev.)

I would feel so much better, if I hadn't just found out a great number of my relatives have had speeding tickets recently, too. I mean, c'mon- soccer moms and grandmothers and my old aunt? Well, at least we're a family of (broke) hardened criminals.

If any of you have ANY business in southern Indiana I would suggest cancelling it if you don't want to be harrassed by the Nazi Squads...

This week the county where my toilet is located elected a new sheriff. One of the candidates ran on a platform of supplementing the battered budget with increased fines. Well, not explicity, but that's how I took his statements about "revenue, revenue, revenue." Sounded like a promise for zero tolerance on vehicle code violations, fix it tickets, infractions adn the like. He had no idea how he sounded. "Vote for me, and I will fine you more."

Capricious enforcement of the law turns people in scofflaws and bug-eyed anarchists, or at least lessens respect of the law. The law ought to be applied uniformly, and its hard to argue thats the case when officers have an incentive to shake people down for fines that guarantee their jobs.

So don't pay it. Seriously. If you can afford to do it, then in effect tell them to eff off. Go to court, tell the judge you can't pay and you'll just serve out the time in jail (probably one or two days). Instead of being a revenue source, you then become an economic drain on the system.

Just sayin'. If enough people just refused to play by the rules "they" set out, the rules would change. Send a clear message that every ticket is going to COST them money instead of netting them a profit.

In Ohio if you don't pay you wont go to jail...your license will be suspended, then you will get pulled over for Driving Under Suspension, an M-1, same level as a DUI. Up to 6 months in jail, $1000 fine, and 3 year suspension.

First offense DUS will be suspended Jail, $250 fine, 6 month license suspension. Its all downhill after that, usually takes 3 DUS's to get you real jailtime mixed with house arrest. I've seen folks dig themselves into a huge economic hole because they were too smart to pay their traffic ticket. My favorite part is where you are assessed restitution to the City to pay for the jailtime.

"But I'll lose my job." says you. Really. And where do you work, does it pay good, etc, that way I can refer an unemployed law abiding citizen to your place of work since a new spot will be opening up. I started doing that last year, so far I've placed over a dozen people in new jobs. I'm thinking about starting it as a job referral side business. Got the idea when I saw some folks on TV talking about finding apartments by reading the obits.

Google "Affidavit of Indigency", "Homestead Exemption" and "Tenancy in the Entirety", and you'll never pay another ticket again, civil or criminal, guilty or not guilty in a court of law, no license suspension. Debtors prisons have been unconstitutional and illegal for nearly 250 years in USA. 40% of Americans are "indigent", even when they own a $100-million mansion free and clear (Florida Homestead Exemption).

Google "tortured by copsters in Tennessee" to learn how a $30 Lie Detector from Walmart can put every cop in prison.

Google "Mike Nifong" to put a prosecutor in jail and suspend his license to practice law.

Google "Judge Bill Swann" to learn how to sue a judge for $1-million, as my brother's client is doing in a jury trial on 26 July 2010.

Or just run against the judge in the next election, as my brother did, which cost the judge $30,000 in "leftover campaign contributions" ("legalized bribery" and money laundering according to Senator William Proxmire). 75% of judges in USA are not licensed lawyers, never attended law college, never attended any college, and many cannot even read, according to NY Times.

Just say NO to Gangsta Govt.

If the jury box and ballot box don't work, there's always the cartridge box. Or just run over cops with your car.

I resent that, I am not bug-eyed.

And John, that's a bad idea, they can get caught up under there and damage your emissions system.

Apologies to all anarchists, googly-eyed or otherwise.

In California, failure to pay a traffic fine can result in the loss of your drivers license. Hence, I cannot encourage non-payment as a form of protest.

Yeah. Do that, seriously. I've always thought freeman style arguments hilarious. Oh, don't forget to complain about the 'admiralty flag' and cite the UCC.

Extra points for UCC 2-207, and getting your dicta on.
