To all you whiners that muddy a thread with your...."Oh, this is a thread with honest discussion. Please don't use vulgarity."

Go somewhere else. You are hypocrites. You gang up on people here that are against big government, centralized government, or tyrannical government. You are alliance-ish to the fullest. It is hilarious that you can be on a board that celebrates a show like Firefly, and have the balls to spew your tyrannical crap. Then when I come along and tell you to eat shit you get all misty eyed...Grow some balls or move-on to bigger and better places. Try the central planets. I hear it's great this time of year.

love always,
Kaneman

I actually wouldn't ever use an ignore function myself because I'm generally too lazy to bother changing default settings. If I was really that concerned about vulgarity and the forum posting while I'm at work, I wouldn't post here while I'm at work.

...Well, okay, yes I would. In any case, I'm fond of the word "douchebag." It's my most favourite word ever.

Hello Kaneman,

I love you, too.

I think the Alliance was for telling people where to go. The Independents were for people deciding for themselves what they wanted.

Sure. However, I don't recall them telling others how to live. and I remember that they went to some pretty shady places without whining about it...

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

You're telling me how to think, what to read, where to go. I'm telling myself I can choose.

Free to Choose.

I can even choose to be right here, talking with folks I enjoy talking with, and ignoring those I don't.

That's the Alliance? They wanted people to have Freedom to Choose? Freedom of Association? The right to mute this guy and change the channel on that guy?

And the Independents weren't for that Freedom?

Well... I had no idea.

Now I think I'll take Kwicko's good advice.

Then skip my posts instead of wasting your time debating draconian measures on my god damned site. Freedom is fine. Utilize the ones here already, However if you want to waste peoples time whining and coming up with rules that fit your desires but not everyone else....you can go fuck your self, and let me be clear, go fuck your self long and hard, I have no use for you....You I should ban...

Lol. I actually thought this was pretty funny. If you just said things like this, it would go over very well, a nice dry sardonic.

As door the rest, hey, there are worse things than being mentally I'll, trust me, I know.

You're not Haken, in case you fall into thinking that you are.

Yeah, yeah, I know, this thread is not about you, you are not the subject of the thread, so everyone, topic, please. Did you notice that I stole that line in a recent thread. I surprised myself actually, I didn't think I would ever, but it was a good line, I was surprised none of yourselves commented on it.

Funny how people put up with the abuse. I put up with pirate news just fine, and what I find even more amazing is that he puts up with me. Which reminds me....

Oh, as for making rules, I do that. I want people to communicate more efficiently. But guess what. Mal does it all the time. Why are we still talking about what's already been decided?

When I first got here I used that line a lot, it seemed real appropriate for a lot of situations, and I think it was. People here like to argue, they're not really very true to the ideology, but they're fans of the show.

You do have a point, there is a lot of alliance-minded ranting that goes on when there should be a little more freewheeling rogue individualism per the nature of the show. But hey, at least the alliance didn't whine. I'm going to hang on to that one, I might need to use it some day.

Oh, and feel free to flame this post, ya gotta know I expect it ;)

You probably weren't meaning me, personally, but I figured I'd comment. It is so ironic that you used the word "muddy". One side would say that vulgarity "muddies" a thread, and you would say that peoples' complaints about vulgarity and their desire that opinions be expressed "cleanly" are what "muddies" a thread. While I find the irony and word choice beautiful, your complaining about peoples' complaints is just as valid (but no more valid) than other people complaining about your posts if we truly believe in free speech here. And maybe that is your point -- free speech must apply both ways. We're on Haken's boat, though, so free speech is limited at his discretion. As I've expressed before, I personally think the vulgarity limits your ability to communicate your ideas clearly and your ability to be understood and acknowledged by others. It also isolates you, because people don't want to agree with someone who comes across as so hateful even if he has good ideas (in my opinion).

I thought the Survey Says post was just the opposite. People were ganging up on the folks who were pro-regulation and pro law. That thread (or at least some of the main discussion in it), to me, was independent-types (libertarians)trying to push their opinions on the alliance types, if you will. (eta: oh, I think you mean that the democrats tend to gang up on the republicans/libertarians at times -- I can see that point)

Quote:

You are alliance-ish to the fullest... It is hilarious that you can be on a board that celebrates a show like Firefly, and have the balls to spew your tyrannical crap.

Yeah, I have a lot of alliance tendencies. If I had to put it on a spectrum, I guess I'd put democrats being the most alliance-ish (wanting the most government involvement), republicans somewhere in between (but still on the democrat end), libertarians toward the other side, and anarchists being the least alliance-ish. Firefly has a broad range of appeal, though, and people latch on to it for different reasons, not necessarily because they share all of the Independents' views, or think that that style of government is the best way to do the most good for the most people. For me, one of the interesting aspects of the show is that you can get so many people with very different viewpoints/background all together on a tiny boat and not have them kill eachother (yet) and actually become united for a good cause.

Isn't this statement just as hypocritical in some ways? People complain about your vulgarity and talk about means of ignoring you. You complain they are limiting your free speech and tell them to find another site, essentially. Each side is demanding the other side change or there should be a consequence. Yours is, "Change or leave", theres is "Change, or we will find some way of blocking you out". That seems just as hypocritical to me. But maybe, again, that is your point: "If you really believe in free speech, deal with it -- the good and bad uses of free speech that can occur on this website". "If you don't, well, at least have the balls to admit it." I, personally, would argue (and so have others on the Survey Says thread), that free speech is a right, but there are times when exercising that right may infringe on the rights of others (in real life). On this website, people can choose to ignore you (they see your name and know you have been tagged as offensive), but I guess they find it hard not to. I wonder why this is? (The answer to this would go a long way to helping me make my case for keeping our current anti-nudity laws intact -- that is, some things are very hard to ignore and one must use a tremendous amount of discipline to do so. While gaining that discipline there may be slip ups that could lead to harm in the form of accidents.) Anyways, enough thoughts for now.

I would disagree that there is irony. I tell people they are free to go somewhere else if they don't like this "verse" that Haken has created. They want to change it to fit their desires in a site. I love it for what it is. The world is full of all kinds...They can all be found right here. For the record I interact with plenty of people here without telling them to sit on a cactus....However, I feel some here would be happy having a circle-jerk...They can go to KOS for that....Well, it's true

Actually, I think a lot of people would be in agreement with you that they don't want the site changed because overall, the benefits of freedom of speech outweigh the costs of hearing some vulgarity. That's just my informal polling though.

Do you want to vote? I'll vote for leaving the site alone. I might even vote for removing your offensive tag...

P.S. As far as the irony goes, I was again looking at your post as poetry. The irony was your use of the word "filthy" to describe people who wanted to "clean up" the vulgarity. They would consider themselves the "clean ones" in this instance, but you described what they were doing as filthy because it limits free speech. I appreciate good irony -- even if it was apparently unintentional, and I read too much into what you were saying.

In your post you wrote "isn't this statement just as hypocritical" It is in your last paragraph. I responded by writing it "is not Ironic", then you responded by talking about my use of "Muddy". Because you thought I was talking about your first paragraph where you talk about Irony. I was talking about your last post. So, go back and read my post from two back.....Use hypocritical in place of Irony. It will make sense....I think. And for the record you have confused me

Perhaps I can clarify: You want people to stop complaining about your vulgarity because that is your freedom of speech. But, by telling them to stop complaining and just leave, you are limiting their freedom of speech. That is the hypocritical part. They are allowed to complain as much as they want, just as you are allowed to be (almost -- per Haken's rules) as vulgar as you want. Neither of you guys should be told to leave or shut up because of what you say, if everyone believes in universal freedom of speech.

Hmmm, that might be more a description of my first use of "hypocritical". My second use of the word hypocritical might not have been such a good word choice and I can see why you disagree with it. In my second example, I was assuming that everyone believed that rules should be determined by the majority, but that actually might not apply, since this is Haken's site. How it would have been hypocritical is that you were saying, "Keep things the same, or leave", while others were saying "We should come up with a means of filtering the vulgarity on this site to make it even better". If both sides believe that rules should be made by the majority, then neither side can just outright tell the other side to leave whenever they disagree about something -- it has to be voted upon. Then, if one side doesn't like the results, they can choose to tolerate it or leave. Anyways, I hope that clarifies my thought processes.
