My side that likes to root for the underdog says that the fire could have been retaliation from the community she pissed off, and so could the subsequent conviction. But I notice she talks about domestic abuse in her response, which does suggest that she tried to light her boyfriend and children on fire for some damn reason. Which, you're right, would be awful. Here's my understanding of the situation:

Her own kid called 911. She was having an altercation with the father. She had a previous conviction for child abuse. The police clearly thought she was the dangerous element and asked her to leave, she then decided to set fire to the apartment, with her kids inside, which is one of three charges against her pending. She probably won't be convicted, she'll probably plea reckless endangerment. Still, not trying to defend her is probably a good move.

ETA: sig has a point, or should. Its not news that she's jaccused, or shouldn't be. Heres the double snag: a) the media reports on casesm not concluded all the time, and b) the media also underreports crimes by blacks, about which Wulf is absolutely right. The media does not realize that what it does in this respect is also racism.
