They aren't intended to be gentlemanly OR funny; his intention is quite the opposite. To trigger. Best to just ignore him. The rest of us can skip right by and continue our discussion; nothing can be done about modifying him, y'know?

Nonetheless, I DO have to say it's nice to hear someone make note of it; sometimes I feel like others here either agree with him(!) or just think "well, Niki's tough, she can take it". I can, certainly, but it's nice to know some others recognize how sick it is.

Did he really say that, Story? My gawd, that IS funny, and says an awful lot about him, don'tcha think? What it says is sad, but saying it is funny to hear.

Seeing, this site does not revolve around what you do/or do not find funny, and that you do not speak for all here, and no one cares how you feel... . You should save your fingertips the bother of typing irrelevant shit. I find whozit's post very enlightening and hilarious.

Say what you want about Glenn Beck, paint him and what he stands for as unfairly as you can, if you're intellectually honest w/ yourselves, there's something you can't deny.

He's vindicated.

Job well done, Mr Beck.

( crowds were near 500,000. If not more. A far cry from the " 10's of thousands " or 87,000, as one main stream news service, claimed. It was likely the biggest such crowd in this nation's history )

I do love it. Ignore that New York Post and Times said around 300,000, NBC said "tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands", and ABC News estimated "hundreds of thousands of people from around the country", and instead focus on the low estimate from CBS...then totally ignore Bachman’s insane “millions”. Cute.

You can never KNOW...nobody can...what the actual total was:
Quote:

Crowd-counting science is far from exact. Much of it is based on examination of overhead photos to calculate crowd density and related statistics. It reminds us of the old intelligence agency practice of “shedology,” in which the Central Intelligence Agency and others estimated Soviet weapons numbers by looking at overhead photos of military sheds and calculating how many tanks they might hold.

Plus, numbers are inevitably colored by an estimator’s interest. Rally organizers usually say crowds were huge, bigger than expected. Critics will say the numbers were less than anticipated. That’s been the case for years.
That’s led to controversy in the past. In October 1995, the National Park Service estimated that about 400,000 people attended the “Million Man March” organized by the Nation of Islam and Louis Farrakhan. Organizers were so angry they sent lawyers to meet with the Park Service.

Shortly thereafter, the Boston University Center for Remote Sensing estimated that the crowd had been 837,000, plus or minus 20 percent. What was the difference? The Park Service counted via pictures taken from videotape. The Center for Remote Sensing used original photo negatives.
Photos of the Beck event clearly show a big crowd. The weather was great – whatever the exact figure, there were a lot of people there. The area along the Reflecting Pool stretching out from the Lincoln Memorial was packed. Groups were gathered under trees far on either side. Large conglomerations of folks gathered all the way to the Washington Monument.

The crowd was big enough to disrupt Washington's subway system, with service from at least 12 stops disrupted due to long lines for entry.
Given that context, let’s wade into the numbers.
Rally organizers, in applying for their permit, said they expected a crowd of up to 300,000. And on Sunday, after the rally, Beck himself said on Fox News that the event drew 300,000 people on the low end, and perhaps as many as 650,000 people on the high end.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R) of Minnesota, at her own rally held on the edges of Mr. Beck's event, said, “We’re not going to let anyone get away with saying there were less than a million here today because we were witnesses.”

However, a firm hired by CBS News to estimate the crowd put attendees at between 78,000 and 96,000. The firm, AirPhotosLive.com, had three estimators go over high-resolution aerial photos of the event, and then combined the three estimates.
These kinds of debates over crowd attendance go way back.

We’ll close with Joni Mitchell’s line: “By the time we got to Woodstock, we were half a million strong . . . "

Except they probably weren’t. Organizer Michael Lang later estimated the Woodstock crowd at about 400,000. Only half of those had tickets.

I think it’s pretty obvious CBS was way off, but a million? Come ON! Even the Million Man March didn’t pull that in

Apparently, CBS is off the mark compared to others—dunno why they want to estimate it that low. But...here’s an Obama rally that drew 100,000:

And here’s Beck’s rally:

Here's MLK's:

Wikipedia:
Quote:

The march was a resounding success. More than a quarter million people of diverse ethnicities attended the event, sprawling from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial onto the National Mall and around the reflecting pool. At the time, it was the largest gathering of protesters in Washington's history.

Here’s the Million Man March:

According to Wikipedia:
Quote:

The National Park Service issued an estimate of about 400,000 attendees, a number significantly lower than March organizers had hoped for. After a heated exchange between leaders of the march and Park Service, ABC-TV funded researchers at Boston University estimated the crowd size to be 837,000, plus or minus 20%.

And the Million Woman March:

According to Wikipedia:
Quote:

A study provided by the University of Pennsylvania in addition to aerial footage, photos, and other research data and information obtained from news and other sources indicates that the gathering drew at least 2 million persons.. Police sources gave numbers varying from 300,000 to 1.5 million.

And finally, Obama's inauguration:

Wikipedia:
Quote:

The inauguration of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States took place on Tuesday, January 20, 2009. The inauguration, which set a record attendance for any event held in Washington, D.C.,

No official count was taken of the number of people attending the inaugural ceremony, although multiple sources concluded that the ceremony had the largest audience of an event ever held in Washington, D.C. Government agencies and federal officials, who coordinated security and traffic management, determined the attendance count to be 1.8 million people based on information collected by several cameras and individuals on the ground.

Stephen Doig, a professor at Arizona State University, estimated that 800,000 people attended the inauguration ceremony using the same satellite image.

You decide. Don't think it set any records, sorry.

As long as Fox News doesn’t fake the photos/videos again like they did for the last Tea Party rally, that’s fine with me. It’ll be a non-story soon anyway.

As far as Beck himself is concerned, I’ll just quote him:
Quote:

"I’m a rodeo clown," he said in an interview, adding with a coy smile, “It takes great skill.” He added later: “I say on the air all time, ‘if you take what I say as gospel, you’re an idiot.’“
Since you buy every word out of his mouth hook, line and sinker, I'll let his description of you suffice.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

I have always wondered- does someone set up additional Porta-Potties and refreshment stations for these things?

I remember reading accounts of Xerxes' invasion of Greece, where Herodotus states that the Persian army numbered over a million men and drank rivers dry as it passed. I'm sure this is an exaggeration, but it describes a real problem.

When I hear about hundreds of thousands of people at an event, up to a million people, my mind always goes to the thought of water and waste. I mean, if you have 100,000 people, and 5% need to use the facilities every hour, that's 5,000 people who need toilet facilities. If you have a million people, that's 50,000 people using the toilet! Then, with the summer heat, the need to replenish lost water must be immense. Each person should be drinking a glass of water every hour to assure hydration while outdoors. So, 100,000 to 1,000,000 drinks of water, every hour, throughout the event. Can there be enough water fountains for all those people? Can they get to the fountains and toilets in a timely fashion through the pressing crowds?

The logistics of these things boggles.

I might be more inclined to take that pic as serious evidence if it was hosted somewhere other than your photobucket account.

Oops, good one Story! Think he took a page out of Fox News' playbook and copied it from some other rally to make his point?

I deliberately didn't take the last photo I posted and turn it around, because that WOULD have meant putting it in photobucket and posting it from there, and I wanted all of them to come from their own sources.

So...wanna give us the site were you got it from, Raptor, to counter this charge? I it is real, it's still SO far from some of the others it's still laughable on its own merit.

And here I thought it was the DEMS who were supposed to be desperate...

Oh, Penguin, that is PRICELESS! Pretty much says it all, don't it? He's an ENTERTAINER, always has been, and like McCarthy, found issues which would give him attention and gin up his ratings because of the emotions of his "base". Or had you guys forgotten:
Quote:

I’m a rodeo clown,’ he said in an interview, adding with a coy smile, “It takes great skill.” “He added later: “I say on the air all time, ‘if you take what I say as gospel, you’re an idiot.’“
So who's blind now? By the man's own words, he considers himself a "clown" and anyone who takes him seriously is an "idiot". I wouldn't necessarily characterize his followers as idiots, but I'll let him condemn them with his own words.

What is the point in the last 15 or so posts in this thread? Beck had a huge rally, period. I see the liberals as living in denial about what is going on in the country around them. There is a prarie fire, period. The tea party is growing, America is wakening, The GOP seems to be going back to it's fiscal conservative roots, people are realizing that obama was a mistake, and the Liberals are scrambling to belittle everything happening around them so they can feel good about themselves. Seems like a perfectly natrural defense mechanism to me. November is just around the corner.....We will all see who is right or wrong then.
