I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

From CNN

Quote:

Iran is harboring members of al Qaeda, and the United States is investigating whether the Iranian government had a role in the September 11, 2001, attacks, President Bush said Monday.

www.cnn.com/2004/US/07/19/bush.iran/index.html

Oh, it was IRAN? With an "n" not Iraq with a "q"?

What I'm wondering is... how can Bush keep ignoring the fact that most of hijackers were... uh... Saudi?

Terrible. I have friends in Tehran. The Iranian people have been through so much since the Islamic Revolution, and before that under the Shaw, which in some ways was much worse. The country has changed so much since Komaini died. No one in this country seems to know anything about it. All we seem to know is that Komaini called us "the Great Satan." I pray to God that we don't decide to destroy those people as well.

Not everyone who joins the army is a fanatical patriot. Some just need a job to feed their families. Some people have roots in that land that go back literally thousands of years which we Americans can barely comprehend and want to protect the land regardless of what overlord rules them for the time being. I pray that we wake up and notice the human cost of our wretched militarism. I'm so sick of all this.

Hey, hey, hey, don't be mean. We don't have to be mean, because, remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

No surprises here: your president told you very early on that the Axis of Evil included Iran, Iraq, and N. Korea. The latter is still being handled with sanctions and politics, the middle one has been dealt with militarily. It remains to be seen how the threat from Iran needs to be dealt with, but the fact that they are a concern is not solely a U.S. opinion. The IAEA has raised pretty serious concerns about Iran.

Never bite the hand that feeds you ... or has been doing business with your family for decades.

It's better to prop up a regime and use that butt monkey for all it's worth. If that butt monkey decides to work independently, declare him a monster and remove him (Saddam). If the people rise up and remove him, condemn them (Shah of Iran).

Coincidently, both Iraq and Iran have oil. I just wanted you to be aware of this.

North Korea has no oil. The odds of the US attacking that corner of the axis is ... not bloody likely.

Secret contracts given out to companies with no bidding or negotiation. Does the name Halliburton come to mind?

Just one example - I don't have time to list more.

U.S. Refusing To Provide Information On No-Bid Contracts, Including Halliburton

... the Bush administration is refusing to provide U.N.-sanctioned auditors with information on more than $1 billion in no-bid contracts awarded to Halliburton and other U.S. companies in Iraq.

That's billion, with a "b".

Jesus Christ Bananas, I'm ridiculed in another post for linking to FOX News and you're citing the frigging U.N.?

Logic is meaningless here. Let's all hold hands.

I’m assuming you’re American, sorry if you are not.

What is the connection between the UN and FOX news?

Also recall that this is not just the UN. If you paid any attention to the United States House of Representatives you would already know all about this. Among other things it’s illegal and immoral. Why they haven’t been impeached is beyond me. Clinton was impeached for lying about sex, these guys lied about that much money.

Cheney said that he would separate all ties with that company if he came to the White House. Then he said he did separate all ties. The it comes out that he is still receiving a regular paycheck, and will get extra money when he’s out of office, and is coincidentally using his influence to make the company rich by awarding them unbid contracts.

Further they are over charging the American people, according to literally hundreds of sources within the company the line is “Don’t ask about the price, it’s cost plus.” They are told not to ask multiple source what something would cost, despite the fact that it was found this can reduce the price by more than half.

Those commercials you see about them feeding the troops, nice commercials right? Did you ever wonder how much they got paid for that? Me neither. But if you give a damn about your taxes you should know that for every meal they serve they reported serving three. So whatever they do get paid for it, with your taxes, it is three times more than their contract said they should get.

But upright citizen you are you probably already knew all of this, right? Or maybe you didn’t. Maybe you pay more attention to FOX news than your own elected officials. I don’t know, but if you didn’t know about it you have no right to talk about it till you learn. And if you did then you knew that it wasn’t just the UN who said it, it was the United States government, so that UN crack shouldn’t have happened.

Not to mention that the UN is a democratic institution and Fox is a far right news agency run by a right-wing demagogue.

Even if I was high I wouldn't trust a Fox news article over a United Nations dispatch.

Wow, by my scale Fox is a little left of center and the U.N. might as well be run by Barbara Streisand and Mr. Natural

JCKnife,

Why did you ignore my post? I'd like to hear what you think. None of it comes from the UN, just from the United States government.

He's a troll? I've only just entered the political threads, but I only thought we had the one troll. I thought he was a person who honestly disagreed.

I don't think JCKnife is a troll at all, just someone with an opinion I disagree with. It might be considerate if we keep most of this conversation to one or two threads, rather than the current six or seven. Even though we're posting in 'Real World Discussions' it does flood the front page, and this is a Firefly board after all.

Yes, spreading these discussions over several threads does kind-of flood the front page. On the other hand, these discussions get a LOT of posts.

28 posts (28 today) Censorship or Freedom of Choice?

140 posts (10 today) The Demonization of the Opposition

and so on.

The question for others who may be more familiar with websites - would it be possible to have certain threads tagged, and put over in an accessible spot, but removed from the general 'discussions' listing? If possible, whom does one ask to have this done?
