"During their time as correspondents in China, WuDunn and Kristof learned of the phenomenon of an estimated 30 million "missing" baby girls in the nation."

Joss Whedon fans might appreciate the gravity of this article.

KANEMAN

They are killed off because they are useless. Only those with fantastic vaginas are spared, sent all over the globe to work as sex slave whores, and I thank China...everytime I get that "happy ending"....I just wish those yellow-skined whores had bigger tits....just one girls opinion

Ironic you should mention this today.

This morning, I spent about 25 minutes answering questions about my work to one of the residents children as she fired one right after the other, without brushing her off or dismissing her, and the mother kept trying to apologise about it, to which I told her kids should be encouraged to question, and adults should be encouraged to answer, honestly, cause that's kind of important when you think about it.

And the kid asks "Why?"
So I pick up an acorn.

"Because every child is like an acorn, with the right care, they can grow to be a mighty oak, but if you just leave them on their own, if you don't take care of them and protect them, that might never happen."

So I give her the acorn, and tell her to plant it in her yard and take care of it, and as it grows so too will her understanding of what I just told her...

And sure enough she asks "What about all the other acorns ?"

"They might, they might not, but THAT one is your job, just as you, are your mothers."

"OHHHH, I see!"

"And of course, I'll keep an eye on it too, as I do my rounds, even though it's not MY acorn, yes ?"

She nods.

"And that, is why I answered your questions."

And we went on our merry.

It isn't JUST a parents job to look after future generations, it's all of ours, and many of us are sorely remiss, even abusive, in our doing of that.

And every time we fail, we not only fail them, we fail ourselves, all that we are - cause in the end, THAT is going to be what makes or breaks us as a species, more than any other factor.
