Christine O'Donnell's win over the long tenured U.S. Representative Mike Castle, 53% to 47%, might have been a shocker to most, but what really happened, and what most observers missed, was that turnout was higher than normal in lower Delaware (Kent and Sussex Counties), and average in upper Delaware (New Castle County).

Castle won New Castle County 58% to 42%, but lost Kent and Sussex counties, 64% to 36%. O'Donnell's support in both Kent and Sussex was twice that of Castle's. Approximately 57,582 registered Republicans voted in Tuesday's primary. An estimated 27,021 voted for Castle and 30,561 voted for O'Donnell; a vote difference of 3,540.

The September PPP poll found that only 24% of Republicans consider themselves "members of the Tea Party," a plurality of 47% felt the Republican Party was "about right" in terms of their ideology; 17% felt they were "too conservative." Approximately 42% of Republicans said that a Sarah Palin endorsement would not make a difference in their vote for a candidate, and 24% said it would make them "less likely" to vote for a candidate.

Kristin Murray, who ran O'Donnell's 2008 Senate campaign against then-Sen. Joe Biden, and who charges that her old boss "is no conservative."

"I got into politics because I believe in conservative values and wanted to make a difference. But I was shocked to learn that O’Donnell is no conservative," says Murray, according to a script obtained by POLITICO.

"This is her third Senate race in five years. As O’Donnell’s manager, I found out she was living on campaign donations — using them for rent and personal expenses, while leaving her workers unpaid and piling up thousands in debt," she says.

Perhaps the most biting line in the call delivered by Murray: "She wasn't concerned about conservative causes. O’Donnell just wanted to make a buck."

Murray said she had been reluctant to speak out about O'Donnell until she saw her campaign gaining traction and becoming a real threat to win the primary.

"Obviously, I don't think I would be doing an ad for the state party if they fired me," she told POLITICO Tuesday afternoon. "And I'm not a big fan of Castle either; I wasn't going to be, ‘Rah-rah Castle.’ I just wanted people to know it's more about who is better on taxes. You're dealing with someone who is a complete fraud."

Murray said she voluntarily left her position as executive director of the state party to run O'Donnell's second Senate run in June 2008, after the candidate pleaded with her three different times to sign on. She left the position two months later, after she found out O'Donnell doesn't have a college degree, had foreclosed on her home and was using the campaign debit card for personal expenses.

"It just amounted to too much," she said. "The reason she's running is so she can pay her rent, pay her electricity bill. If it was popular to be really liberal now, maybe she'd do that," Murray said.

Murray's remarks mark the second time a former O'Donnell campaign staffer has come forward in recent days to publicly rebuke the former television commentator's candidacy.

David Keegan, a former O'Donnell aide, told The New York Times earlier this month that when he found out about O'Donnell's personal financial problems, he decided he could no longer work for her.

"We are constantly trying to hold her back from spending. She was financially completely irresponsible," Keegan told the Times.

It's possible that O'Donnell was misremembering the 2005 report on scientists who successfully grew human brain cells within mice -- which is not the same as an actual functioning human brain, but a demonstration that human brain cells can be made from stem cells.

Here's another wonderful gem from Christine O'Donnell's past as a frequent guest on TV shows. Back in 1996, when then-Speaker Newt Gingrich's finances were being investigated, O'Donnell complained that people were on a witch hunt to find anything to get Gingrich, instead of paying attention to serious ethics scandals -- like putting Bill Clinton on trial for the supposed murder of Deputy White House Counsel Vince Foster.

During an appearance on C-Span, O'Donnell complained about the ethics investigations of Gingrich. "I think it's very interesting that President Clinton has come on a lot more charges and a lot more serious charges than what Newt Gingrich is being charged on, yet we're not making as big of an issue, we're not forcing that he go to trial," said O'Donnell. "We're not giving people like Paula Jones a fair trial, we're not giving the case of Vincent Foster a fair trial -- when there is a lot more empirical evidence that Clinton is involved in wrongdoing."

"That's a much more serious charge than failing to seek legal advice, and yet we're all just blowing that off, and everybody's trying to focus on Newt Gingrich like a witch hunt, to bring him to the stake and burn him, because they don't like the policy that he's behind.”

In a 1998 appearance that O'Donnell made on Bill Maher's "Politically Incorrect" show, O'Donnell frets about how the younger generations have been told to do what they feel like, meaning having lots of abortions.

Later, O'Donnell -- who hates lying -- tries to figure out what she'd do if she had to lie to Hitler! Comedian Eddie Izzard pressed her on just how far she would take her anti-lying beliefs. Izzard asked O'Donnell whether or not she would lie to Nazis who showed up at her door during WWII and demanded to know if she were hiding any Jewish people in her house. O'Donnell refused to even entertain the notion of concealing the truth from Nazis in that scenario because "you never have to practice deception":

A filing cabinet or a computer can store quite inconsistent notions and never lose a minute of sleep over their contradiction. Similarly a high RWA can have all sorts of illogical, self-contradictory, and widely refuted ideas rattling around in various boxes in his brain, and never notice it.

It’s as if each idea is stored in a file that can be called up and used when the authoritarian wishes, even though another of his ideas--stored in a different file-- basically contradicts it. We all have some inconsistencies in our thinking, but authoritarians can stupify you with the inconsistency of their ideas. Thus they may say they are proud to live in a country that guarantees freedom of speech, but another file holds, “My country, love it or leave it.” The ideas were copied from trusted sources, often as sayings, but the authoritarian has never “merged files” to see how well they all fit together.
