I wasn't here then, but the volume of crowing about their upcoming "landslide" by the right wingers appears to be exactly what you described "libs" as doing back then. So what exactly is your point? Were the right-wingers here posting tons, being loud and excited back then?

What are you guys gonna do if it doesn't turn out to be a landslide and your gloating, there in black and white, looks stupid? Might be interesting to find out.

There is a flaw in your statement, by the way. There have yet to be "rampant Tea party gains". They won NOMINATIONS over the Republican Party candidates, mostly because of low turnout among conservatives, but a nomination is not a gain until it's proven in a general election. If they gain there "rampantly", then you have the right to gloat, but if I were you I'd wait and see before bragging.

By the way, maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see all those who express a liberal bent disappearing or being quiet here. I guess you rank me among the "same old blowhards", even tho' I wasn't here then, but tho' I'm not a Democrat, I'm unabashedly liberal, and I've certainly not been quiet, nor have several others.

I'd dearly love to have some sensible right-wingers here willing and able to discuss rationally. I have yet to see many of them, either. I'd also dearly love to hear a real platform from the Tea Party or anyone on the right:

"Make government smaller!", yet they want government in our bedrooms, women's reproductive rights, classrooms, they want to deny civil rights to those they don't like; essentially government's okay as long as it enforces what THEY want enforced.

"Do away with entitlements!", yet I see all those Tea Partiers carrying signs "don't touch my Social Security/Medicare".

The one they're backing off on, after shooting their mouths off about it, is "Privatized Social Security, Medicare, the Vet". That, I have no doubt they'd like to follow through with, but to get elected, they've begun sidestepping it, denying it, modifying it.

"Reduce the deficit!", while at the same time, I haven't seen ANY viable specifics on how they would cut the deficit, aside from entitlements (certainly not military spending or the wars!), and they want to extend the tax cuts for the rich, deficit be damned.

I've heard no specifics from the right about how they would accomplish the things they grouse about, except "cut taxes" and "reduce regulation", which did us SO much good the past eight years! The few things they've put out that supposedly represent their "stands" have been vague, overblown claims with no substance.

Not to mention Mike's right, according to their loud protestations (and Palin's warnings to them), the Tea Party isn't a "party" anyway.

Traffic here, admittedly, has slowed down...a goodly number of the more civil posters have deserted us. In many cases (and a number of STATED cases, both here and in private) it's been because it's not worth it to wade through all the idiocy and ugly personal attacks to find something to discuss. That's one helluva thing to be proud of, isn't it?

And don't give me "they're running away 'cuz they're too scared..." or whatever bullshit. There is NO reason someone should come to a forum to find little but obscene snarks and personal attacks in an effort to discuss issues with others; there are far more intelligent places to do so. I'm still here, as are a few others; maybe because we're just stubborn, maybe because it's worth it to connect with the few who speak up who actually have something to say, but I fault nobody for absenting themselves, given the current atmosphere here.

If you're going to give out with "yeah, but you accuse righties of running away", it's been my observation that the worst of the right-wingers here (not all) absent themselves when debates, not personal attacks, get the best of them. I can only think of two regular "libs" (if you will, tho' that's not accurate in one case) who snark anything LIKE as horribly as our hard-core righties; until that's fairly equal, people have good reason not to bother with this place.

Hopefully some will come back when/if things calm down. Several did recently, so I have faith they're still out there, and may return if things get more civil, or at least if there's LESS ugliness slathering the place. Who knows?

Mike, you're so good at these searches, can you find it for me? I'm sure it was Wulf--on that I MIGHT be wrong, but I don't think so.

Yeah, that's a couple times Wulfie has made that claim now, and KKKaney's backing him on it, but neither of them have come forward with anything *I* said that would give ANY kind of credence to such a preposterous notion.

I've never defended gang rape. I might defend the idea that people are people, and should be treated as human beings even when they are charged with abominable acts, and are deserving of a legal defense in a court of law, but that's not by any stretch of the imagination a defense of rape.
