Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

It's blown me away to see and hear all these right-wing candidates say things that are abhorrent to the values upon which this country was founded, while at the same time espousing a "return" to "American values". The hypocrisy of it continues to blow my mind:

Steffan Broden is the most recent rightie to call for revolution if they don't get what they want.

“‘If the government is not producing the results or has become destructive to the ends of our liberties, we have a right to get rid of that government and to get rid of it by any means necessary,” Broden said.

He's typical...back when he was just a pastor, he was happy to make inflammatory statements which he's now had to back away from since he's running for office (Texas, of course!):

I doubt he'll back away from this one, tho', as the game is to talk voilence on the right, which I think is sick, but our beloved Wulf thinks is really cool.

We remember Angle's "second amendment remedy" remark:
Quote:

“Our Founding Fathers, they put that Second Amendment in there for a good reason, and that was for the people to protect themselves against a tyrannical government,” Angle told conservative talk show host Lars Larson in January. “In fact, Thomas Jefferson said it’s good for a country to have a revolution every 20 years. I hope that’s not where we’re going, but you know, if this Congress keeps going the way it is, people are really looking toward those Second Amendment remedies.”
http://chattahbox.com/us/2010/10/22/tea-party-candidate-warns-violent-
revolution-against-obama-an-option
/

There was that stupid ad with actors dressed as Founding Fathers saying "get your guns" or something.

There's more, we've all heard it, I'm just not going to bother to look it up.

Then there's abortion:
Quote:

A partial list of Republican candidates running for US Congress in this year's mid-term elections shows that at least 78 of them have professed to oppose abortion in all cases, including where rape or incest are involved.
That's scary as hell. This year's Republican candidates are more extreme on the issue of abortion than any other slate of top-of-the-ticket candidates in any other year.

What happened to all this "freedom" they keep yelling about, and "limited government"?

How about racism, which righties keep claiming isn't part of the Tea Party or the GOP? We remember the Southern Strategy, which was admitted to by the GOP...what nobody mentions is that they're using it again, quite effectively.

We've seen the photo of Obama as a witch doctor. Now the American Values and Focus on the Family Action Forum (misnamed if anything ever was) sold "Obama waffles" at the Values Voters Summit:
Quote:

Obama is portrayed with popping eyes and big, thick lips as he stares at a plate of waffles and smiles broadly.

Placing Obama in Arab-like headdress recalls the false rumor that he is a follower of Islam, though he is actually a Christian.

On the back of the box, Obama is depicted in stereotypical Mexican dress, including a sombrero, above a recipe for "Open Border Fiesta Waffles" that says it can serve "4 or more illegal aliens." The recipe includes a tip: "While waiting for these zesty treats to invade your home, why not learn a foreign language?"

There's Sharon Angle, and her most recent bigoted idiocy:
Quote:

In a new low, even by the marginal standards of Sharron Angle’s campaign, the deranged tea party senatorial candidate from Nevada is out with yet another odious racially charged and bigoted campaign ad. She was forced to take down her last anti-Latino scary illegal aliens ad when it was discovered she had used a stock Getty image of Mexican men IN Mexico, without permission. Now Angle is returning to her fearmongering ways, depicting scary looking Latino men who are threatening white people. Angle’s dog whistle message to racists couldn’t be clearer. She is telling voters she will protect people like herself from the wave of illegal brown people crossing our borders to terrorize and steal things from white people.

When she was asked to explain the racist imagery in her previous ad, she claimed that the men in the ad didn’t look Hispanic. And she shamelessly tried to claim the ad was intended to warn voters of the threat of terrorists crossing the Canadian border. Well, no one bought that bizarre explanation.

http://chattahbox.com/us/2010/10/26/sharron-angle-wants-white-voters-t
o-fear-criminal-brown-people-video
/

The cry that the Tea Party isn't part of the religious right has been dislproven over and over, and Broden's right on top of that one, too. He represents another one of the Tea Party/Republicans' wishes too...to put religion back in America:

Talk of violent revolution, bigotry, government in women's right, religion...the ones the Tea Partiers and Republicans won't talk about (except for their more naive, extreme candidates). But they're there, never doubt it.

How can reasoning people support these candidates? What's wrong with America? Our values have fallen by the wayside to a group which keeps calling for "American Valuse" but in reality represents NONE OF THEM!

The funny thing is that I actually HAVE a box of those Omaba waffles, and true to my promise, made them and had them for breakfast the day he was elected, while laughing in the face of our resident hate spouters who were the whole time predicting a McCain landslide, as they scurried to go hide under a rock for a couple months hoping people would forget...

If we should only be so lucky this time around, neh ?

And yanno, I dunno who actually made the mix, but the waffles ain't half bad, neither.

The administration OTOH, sucks.

I don't dislike Obama personally, but he's very suspect as far as NWO goes, and his admin members even more so.

But seriously, Frem, you can't really believe that dog and pony show was an election. I mean, McCain painted Obama as better than Obama himself could, and Palin, well, she practically served you those waffles.

Anyway, anyone watching big elections is just staring at the scoreboard and has completely lost sight of the ball.

You know better, and I know you know I know. Ya know?

And a few years after ratifying the Constitution, Jefferson's party called themselves the Democratic-Republicans.

But hey, what do I know. Anti-democracy talk is only a little bit supporting the ruling elite in either party that have us all by the gonads.

Though I concede democracy is a crap shoot as well. It's really better if people create contracts between their neighbors to settle issues and disputes as opposed to having a body of lawmaking and majority versus minority nonsense.

YES, the "Kiss of Death" has been delivered!

Funny thing, I know Dingbat, and kinda like him, he's an old school, blue collar kinda guy and a likeable enough gent... for a scum suckin politician, that is.

And he's one of the few liberal Dems who has respect for the second amendment, which cuts him slack with me.

I once got to bend his ear a bit on a local matter, via offering to do some minor auto checkup/service if he'd hear me out while I did so - he didn't agree, but at least he listened politely.

Plus, remember that bridge on Stadium with the concrete chunks fallin out the bottom I been bitchin about ?

Well, he went and managed to steal back a chunk of the Fedgovs tax-extortation to get it repaired.
(no doubt way overbudget by some bunch of shitheel corrupt contractors using watered down concrete...)

Not a perfect solution, but I'll take what I can get - remember, also, that I REFUSE to take direct action against the Dems cause I feel we should finish off those GOP bastards first, barroom rules, you take OUT the one you have on the floor, get that boot in, FINISH THE JOB, cause how many times have we paid a dear price for our failure to do that ?

Nah, demolish the GOP, wreck em clear and total, utterly DESTROY them as a political entity, and get the Dems to help, gleefully, happily, and then, only then, turn our attentions to these Dimocrat bastards and push them right off the cliff after them...

This wound one and let it recuperate to fuck us again and again while we wound the other shit is stupid, when you fight a hydra you make SURE each head is dead, dead, DEAD before you go choppin on the next one.

Sarah Geller is a vapid blonde idiot, in my opinion. She's the only single thing I hated about Buffy; luckily, the rest of the cast and the writing made up for her. From what I heard, she didn't even bother to show up at most of the cons, despite the rest of the cast doing so.

She's no-talent white bread in my opinion--how many TV or movie roles has she landed since Buffy went off the air? Her co-star got his own show, Hannigan is going strong in movies, and Dushku got a series, plus still getting movie roles. That's just my opinion, of course, and I'm sure will ruffle feathers.

And I think Joss trumps them ALL, given his talent, stances and intellect.

Interestingly, this thread diverted almost immediately into general politics and right v. left, while absolutely nobody has commented on the craziness of many of the current candidates, plus the over-the-top and obvious stances which are the opposite of everything this country is SUPPOSED to stand for.

Well, I think our left-wing board members have been quite vocal on that topic, so is what you mean that you expect the right wing board members to agree to say anything bad about the candidates they support?

If you want a comment in general, I have my suspicions that many of the craziest seeming candidates aren't crazy, but rather are just saying whatever they think their constituents want to hear. Not that it matters, strict party lines will always tend to vote within strict party lines, and nothing said is going to phase true believers on either side.

Which of course is all to the benefit of both parties. There will be some volleyballing over the voter issues with each election cycle, they'll put on a nice show, but the behind the scenes stuff and bipartisan anti-American value stuff will continue to pass whether or not you vote Democrat or Republican. So I hardly care if some Republican candidates seem crazy. They'll both do what their masters tell them to do.

You don't need to worry about the crazy republicans taking away anyone's abortion rights. Rape and incest inclusive anti-abortion laws only fly at state level. Federal and global level, there's a pro-abortion agenda. The Supreme court has never ceased to uphold Roe v Wade: I note that a Republican leaning supreme court refused to hear the McCorvey case seeking to overturn it. What they have done, in the past, is to compare whether some abortion practices (partial birth) is compatible with the original Roe v. Wade decision, which says that second trimestre can be regulated except in cases of potential harm to the mother, rape, and incest, and third trimestre can be outright restricted except in those cases.

Immigration, as ever, will probably continue to be determined by the needs of business. I doubt anyone in politics is going to really take a stand AGAINST money and pass something that hurts the cronies or their donation numbers.

As for racism... I think plenty of tea party identifiers who actually don't see any undertones, or see anything wrong with the Obama Waffles or Obama as a medicine man pictures. They think those are just making fun of someone they don't like. If race enters into it, it's less about blacks in general, and more about a guy they don't like, who happens to be black. Although they do seem to spend an awful lot of time focusing on the "Hey, he's black!" and "black stereotypes!" part of all that. Still. If this was really about race on the part of the tea parties, I kinda think it would be more overt. You'd have hung effigies and burning crosses and such. I think they just don't realize how their actions and their anti-Obama jokes look to everyone else, and when someone calls them on it, they think "What? This is harmless. You're just trying to repress my speech!"

I suspect the same myself, or at least HOPE that is the case!

No, what I was interested in was some examples that there ARE values on the right--I know it's stupid to wish for enough sanity among the resident RWAs for them to abhor some of the most virulent stands, but seeing them APPROVE the same is pretty astonishing. It's like they have to agree or they're traitors to the right/Tea Party, which adherence to the party line dismays me.

I'd like to have seen at least a few people speak up and express abhorrence of some of the extremely un-American words coming out of these people's mouths, but to see such blind approval only further convinces me that the Fox audience isn't capable of thinking for themselves or ever paying attention to what they're told to think, to see if it's a value they approve. It's sad.

I sincerely hope you're right about abortion; my mother had an abortion back when they were illegal and it left her screwed up internally--she had multiple miscarriages before she had me cesarian and was told she could bear no more children. I don't want to see it ever return to that.
