PIRATENEWS

John Lee, conspiracy therapist at Hollywood award-winner History Channel-mocked SNL-spoofed PirateNew.org wooHOO!!!!!!

Senator Jay Rockefeller, great-grandson of John D. Rockefeller and nephew of multi-trillionaire Rabbi David Rockefeller, wants to yank both Fox News and MSNBC off the air.

“There is a bug inside of that wants to get the FCC to say to Fox News and MSNBC… out, off,” he said during a hearing on retransmission negotiations between broadcasters and cable providers. “We have journalism that is always ravenous for the next rumor, but insufficiently hungry for the facts that can nourish our democracy.”

“I hunger for quality news, I’m tired of the right and left,” Rockefeller said.

He failed to mention that both networks are cable television channels and the FCC has little if any regulatory power over their content.

Millions of Americans have tuned out the false right-left paradigm of the corporate-dominated news channels in favor of alternative news sources on the internet. For the establishment, this trend is highly disturbing and must be turned back.

In March of 2009, Rockefeller said the internet is the “number one national hazard” to national security.

Guy sounds brilliant.

I was thinking about this process:

Media "News" outlets, in whatever form whether Internet, paper/magazine, or TV, survive exclusively by viewership numbers (unless you are NPR and even then it's still tied somewhat loosely to that). So what's the best way of keeping viewership high, permanently? By having a 2 party system - that way you ensure that there is always someone with an opposing viewpoint to your own. Then all you have to do is politicize whatever the issue is and you have built in conflict and the attention of just about everyone.
Even the most trivial news item suddenly has urgency. Instead of, "questions concerning right of way for a new logging road in West Forrest, Alabama..." become "Republicans lobby for new logging road in West Forrest..." Dem listeners: "Those rat b*stards want to run over us little guys..."
Nothing stirs readership like giving them the tools with which to complain.

Sometimes you own the libs. Sometimes, the libs own you.

You're right PN, this guy's onto something.

Neither MSNBC nor Fox would be allowed to call themselves news channels here in Britain where we have news impartiality laws.

It's not personal. It's just war.

I agree with his opinion. But I thank God the govt doesn't have the power to shut FOX and MSNBC down.

Our entire way of life and value system is based on allowing extraordinarily annoying and repulsive speech. You don't like it? Don't watch it. Convince others to turn them off too. Put them out of business--that is the American way.

If I had to throw the First Amendment in the shitter, I'd start with shutting down the Westboro Baptist Church first. You can avoid FOX and MSNBC. You can't avoid idiots shouting at your son's funeral.

A better way is for the Freedom Riders to get between these assholes and the funeral.

It preserves the right of free speech, and shows that free people can and always will, do the right thing.

Right on.

Don't "yank their license" or have the FCC shut 'em down. EDUCATE people to seek out unbiased news sources and drive this stuff out of business.
