Just a reminder. As some here like to talk about what divides us, or how our "empire" is crumbling... to which I say .... (but I digress)

Here is Mr. John Wayne.

Ah, good ol' Wulfie. Didn't get the response he wanted in one thread, so let's divert to another....

you take that back. "Marion" as you call him, and his parents mistakenly called him, was not a homo, pictures of him in drag smoking a joint nonwithstanding. i would fist fight you over this, were such a thing possible over the internet. you know how stone age fundamentalists cry out for blood when someone says something that is less than 100% flattering about Mohammed? You've produed a similar reaction here, and I am going to kill you.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello Wulf,

If you will pardon me, I will share my perception of you. My opinion of what sort of man you are.

To me, you are among those who hold the 'Crumbling Empire/Lost Utopia' mindset. This is why you endorse, time and time again, a revolution to restore America. Not to evolve America into a better thing- something it has never been before, but rather to restore it to a thing it once was. How can this craving for a revolution of restoration be anything but the craving for a lost Utopia?

"Gather your Armies," you parrot. Then you point damningly out the window, at those who hold attitudes you disaprove of.

But the window is a mirror. The enemy is you.

Far too poignant and eloquent Anthony.

That sound you hear is your point whistling past his ear.

Yeah, Story, I caught that...sigh...predictable as always!

Blue's absolutely right, Anthony. The rest of us enjoyed it, tho', and I think you're right on.

But you should step to the side when you write things like that...pissing into the wind, you know...

Didn't bother with the videos...someone's got a point to make, make it, don't give me fantasy.

America loves a winner!

"There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to runin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation of all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities."

What is wrong with him starting another thread? Why does it bother you so much? Were you born a dick or did you become one by sucking too many?

There seems to be a propensity of our "trollish" members to see mocking, snarking and disagreement as others getting "bothered so much", "all head up", "panties in a bunch", etc., etc. Are they so passionate they can't stand disagreement without getting extremely "bothered", or that they live in a world of drama and think everyone else does? Just curious.

For example, supposedly we "hate" and "fear" Palin; there seems to be no conception that we might find her merely absurd; a crack about Wulf starting a second thread on a subject (which, I believe, has been complained about/mocked previously by some of the same people), and other things I've noticed. I wonder why that is?

As to why Story was amused (not bothered, by the way), we've seen this one before; Wulf posts something, it doesn't get the response he wants and his concept gets refuted, he starts another thread with slightly different wording. Yes, it would appear to me as well that he wants to make his statement so needs to do it twice because the first didn't get what he wanted. This one is an example, to me, in that it's concept is that America's great, not a "failing empire". It's neither here nor there, just funny.

On the other hand, that’s an excellent quote Raptor. I agree. Unfortunately, the ones who most need to understand what Wayne’s poem was trying to point out (and yes, I bothered to go back and watch THAT video; it seemed pertinent) are those of you who DON’T recognize all of us as not needing a hyphen, but make the “wall” yourselves.

Nonetheless, when it comes to African-Americans, we have made strides. At least African-American is more inclusive than Negro or Black, etc. But we haven’t gotten beyond the need to point out the differences...when is the last time a news story reported “X, an Italian-American (insert any of what Wayne’s poem used) robbed/killed/etc.”? But every day you can find references to “X, an African-American/Muslim-American/etc., robbed/killed/etc.,” We still have a long ways to go; it would help if you and your ilk HERE remembered what he said.

It is a shame that, if that’s how he really felt, he chose to star in movies which were the precise opposite of the feelings he expressed. I guess we’ve come a long ways from THAT, as well, since we include them so far as to say they’re “Native Americans” (no hyphen, interestingly). However, despite the inclusiveness of the hyphen today, it hasn’t done much to change the way people FEEL about those hyphenated Americans.
