I caught the last of "The Queen" on TV last night and found it interesting. That the opinion of the royalty is still so important and can become such a bone of contention surprised me, too...not to mention the small mindedness of the attitude. I'm sad for the Brits that they still inveigh so much importance to their royal family and, while I understand the importance of history and historical artifacts, after seeing the crown jewels, I was pretty much disgusted, and reminded how much money goes into retaining that (in my opinion) useless body.

I guess mostly glad we don't have a royal family to support--not to say the enormous waste of money for our governing body isn't equivalent in its way, but they've GOT a governing body, so it seems especially absurd.

As to the rest, yes, I do resent the money squandered on White House "frills" and stuff, which I recognize need to happen anyway, it's just my own resentment.
