Keith Olbermann, recently departed host of MSBC's "Countdown," has a new job. He is to become chief news officer and host an hourlong TV show on Al Gore's 5-year-old, obscure cable network Current TV.

Current TV, which offers a variety of rebroadcast and original programming, is available currently in 60 million American homes and can usually be found in the digital tier of a cable TV lineup. Original shows on Current TV include "Bar Karma," a fantasy series about "the most mysterious bar in the universe" in which viewers vote on where the story line proceeds, "Infomania," a satirical look at the news similar to "The Daily Show," and "Vanguard," an in-house news and documentary magazine.

Olbermann's show "Countdown" has about 1 million viewers by the time he left MSNBC. Very likely the hope of Current TV is that Olbermann, a famous newscaster and commentator in the cable news industry, will provide a boost in viewership that the struggling network evidently needs.
