Well, this is sort of what W was telling us would happen...

Dude's sort of like a prophet or somethin'.

Will be interesting to watch where each of the Mideast countries around Egypt go, if anywhere. Tunisia is having a tough time, and I'm not sure many other countries have the guts the Egyptican people showed; OR have militaries which wouldn't just take orders and go blow them away. Scary, but fascinating.

As to W...it took the Egyptian PEOPLE to cause this, not us invading. To me, that nullifies any "prophetic" aspect to his "predictions". He wanted to FORCE countries into democracy...that wouldn't work, as we already know.

Naww, I'm pretty sure that W said that once other nations saw democracy in action in Iraq, it would spread on its own.

And it looks as if he was right.

NEWOLDBROWNCOAT

saw a headline over on CNN.com, but didn't read the story. Sounded like a lotta Iranian folks were taking to the streets, but the ayatollahs and the Army were gearing up to clobber 'em. Maybe, maybe not. Don't bet against the guys with the guns and tanks...

I got news fer 'ya. If you're trying to say that once people saw "democracy" in Iraq (or Afghanistan), they'd want it, I think, just as Bush was, you're deluding yourself. Iraq hasn't GOT "democracy", even slightly, and Afghanistan is even further away. Egypt WILL be (if they can manage it) the first true democracy, and it BECAME so because they stayed nonvoilent and the army refused to fire on them. I'm not sure how many other countries that can be said about, and I reject completely that countries in the Mideast, seeing the puppet democracies we're trying to set up, want that.

Are you referring to this:
Quote:

As Egyptians began to grasp the magnitude of the revolution that has swept through their country, the military junta found itself grappling Monday with the economic problems that fueled the revolt, including massive youth unemployment and economic underdevelopment.

In a communique, the military appealed to Egyptians to return to work, saying a lack of production will hurt the nation's economy already weakened by the protests.

The armed forces, "in order to achieve security and stability of the nation and the citizens and to guarantee the continuation of production in all the country sectors, calls on the citizens and labor sectors to carry out their duties, each one in his position, with appreciation for what you have endured for a long time," said Maj. Gen. Mohsen al-Fangari.

The communique was issued as state workers from the civil affairs section of the Interior Ministry demonstrated in Cairo's Abbasiya neighborhood calling for fair compensation and better work conditions, witnesses told CNN.

Maybe not, because I didn't see any mention of the Mullahs; if not, to which article are you referring?

I was a "call" for people to return to work, but no threat. If the army wasn't willing to crack down on them before (when the pressure to do so was huge), I doubt they will now.

The Egyptians may well have gotten carried away with this demostraton and strike stuff; if so, that's a real shame. I hope things can mellow out. I know demonstrating and protesting feels "empowering", but if they don't focus on getting a government together and getting the country back off its knees, hope dims.

DREAMTROVE

Lol

So that's what this was all about. Fat chance. Nonetheless, I'm sure the neocons are jacking off to the idea.

Anyone remember what happened in China?
