We, the leadership of major scholarly associations, express our collective outrage at the recent, repeated attacks on Professor Frances Fox Piven. These attacks have been based on rhetoric, rather than substance, and have incited threats of violence, rather than encouraging open debate. Radio and television personality Glenn Beck has accused Professor Piven of creating a plan to "intentionally collapse our economic system," as reported by The New York Times; and he has included her in a list of the nine "most dangerous people" in the world. While Mr. Beck has not directly called for violence against Professor Piven, his attacks have created a space for threats of violence to emerge. Over the past several months, Professor Piven has received a flood of hate mail and menacing internet postings, including death threats. The Center for Constitutional Rights has identified many violent posts by visitors to Mr. Beck's website, including the following: "I am all for violence and change Frances: Where do your loved ones live?" The rhetoric has become sufficiently overheated that the potential for physical violence is real.

Raise of hands from all who like Glenn Beck? Just curious. Anyone? Anyone?

Doing it backwards. Walking up the downslide.

I thought this thread might be about

<-Beck

who I am a moderate fan of.

Glenn Beck I honestly know very little about. Don't much care to know more; from what I do know I find him to be irritating.

Facts are stubborn things.

I'm pretty sure Glenn Beck is a fan. He sure loves the sound of his own voice.

Just wondering, is the posting fo troll bait in itself trolling?

Not surely, not to say I'm not guilty myself. I suppose it keeps the sheeple occupied. Game ,on.

You have a point. But I think CTS's point is the calls for violence, or use of language in that direction, (though i do see this sort of thing all over,) and even when joking, doesn't help.

ETA: A quick search on Frances Fox Piven rreveals that she calls for a dole. I don't see how that endangers the US economy. Perhaps he should go after someone like Bernanke, someone who might actually represent a threat to the Economy. And to Beck Beck is a coward.

Well, my opinion is well known. He's not important enough to "hate", any more than Palin, but he's sick...knows precisely what he's doing (unless it's all gone to his head so bad he actually BELIEVES the crap he spews) and is doing his best to misinform, lie, spike fear and hatred toward EVERYONE he sees as worth attacking, and doesn't deserve any of the titles of "commentator", "pundit", "journalist" "newsman".

He makes me sick; not because of what he spouts, one can find idiotic things on any TV evangelist show, but because people BELIEVE him. THAT I feel is endangering our country far worse than all the people and things he claims are doing so (which are myriad).

I don't wish him violence, but I wish he just "wasn't"...the rest of them I can mostly take, tho' Rushbaugh srains my tolerance badly...

I will force myself to use self-control and stop there.
(ETA: I'm trying to use the new beta format, and it's making my posts both there AND here come out weird, for which I apologize. This was coded "color=aqua", but came out in navy both places..?!?! Until Haken can help me figure it out, I'm stuck with going back to my old codes and staying in the old format...sigh...)

Sure, one tells verifiable lies and throws out thinly veiled violent rhetoric on a regular basis. The other is a liberal woman.

Of course you'd pick the liar.

Even O'Reily thinks Beck is full of shit.

"I thoroughly disapprove of duels. If a man should challenge me, I would take him kindly and forgivingly by the hand and lead him to a quiet place and kill him."

I like Glenn Beck, just like I like Rush Limbaugh. I listen to their opinions, agree with some of them, but I make my decisions and don't base my whole life around them...

I'd write more, but I'm too busy storing my gold and 2 tons of freeze dried food in my basement.

The above claims about Beck being for violence are 100% fabricated. If anything, Glenn has gone so far in the other direction of pacifism, he's actually lost what spine he may have once had.

Truth of the matter is, the snippet above is merely a response to the uber radicals Cloward and Piven, and their destructive diagram to destroy this country.

That media matters has twisted his views and his references to " Professor " Piven, is just more proof of how badly the Left are full of liars.

Here's what I was GOING to write, before I actually saw what this thread was about...

Glenn gets too deep into the rabbit hole for my likes. I do listen to his show, but he goes off on preaching rants where he fancies himself a radio evangelical too much, and then I turn the channel. When he's conversing more w/ his side kicks on the show, he's not too bad.

** EDIT **

Wow, I just realized how much of a necro thread this was, as it was near 5 years dead before being brought back to life.

Glenn Beck , and his whole crew , have come out in support of Ted Cruz.

And I bet I listen to more of GB's radio show than the rest of y'all combined.

I have only listened to his show when going out to get lunch - same for Rush D*ldo - I just wanted to hear what they were going on about. I thought he and his cronies could be funny, even decent human beings at times, but the overall vibe to me was they were about the commercials and keeping their listener base well fed... so they could keep themselves well fed. Totally not surprising.

They do segue many of their sponsors into their conversations, which I do find most annoying. It's apparently an industry thing, a live mention, where instead of playing a recorded and produced ad, they sort of ad lib a short bit, where they have to say certain things about the sponsor, and say it a certain number of times. It must be a hell of a lot cheaper, but it's so lame. Pretty common in the talk radio world.

I had the impression that he used to be a bit of a ranter, but that could have been due to filtering by the liberal MSM at the time.
Now I get an occasional dose of him on weekends and he may have mellowed out a bit, but he largely seems to stay on track quite a bit and he is able to make excellent points at times. Some of his logical jumps seem to be based upon prior discussion, which I have not accessed, so I am not always following his flow like his true followers probably do.

Glen Beck is a recovering addict. He is not educated in any of topics he discusses and only assholes would listen to him discuss economics or anything else with his Sehome High School education.

You consider Yale Divinity School to not be higher education than High School?
I guess I shouldn't be surprised by your lack of comprehension.

Show me where he graduated college. People added it but there is no record of him graduating. He is just a carnival barker and has a good following of morons.

"Glenn pointed out that the majority of the radio staff – including himself – did not have college degrees. He also pointed out the successful entrepreneurs like the founder of JetBlue did not attend college."

Changing course I see. OK, like I said the first time. Anybody who thinks Glen Beck with his High School education knows what he is talking about when he calls out economists is a moron. He has been doing what Trump has been doing which is to tap into peoples anger. Same as Limbaugh. Anyone who listens to those who are educated in the topics these guys talk about ( like economics ) knows they are full of shit.
