Is there any where that isn't experiencing catastrophe right now? It doesn't feel like it.

My condolences to the victims. Heart wrenching.

I hope this doesn't set off other earthquakes in the region. And volcanoes. And tsunamis. I'd vacate from coastal and island regions as much as possible in the meantime.

As for the initial question about catastrophes, unfortunately I think they must have always happened at the current rate, we're just more aware of all of them because of the internet.

That is sad, I'm sorry people died.

I think Byte might be right, we're a lot more aware of all the things that happen lately with the news and the Internet, its just that Megansdaughter's part of the world is having some difficulties just now, with floods and quakes, things will probably settle down soon and some other part of the world will have things to handle.

Terrible to hear. Not aware of much quake activity in NZ, though I do see that it sits on the edge of a tectonic plate....

Just to continue to keep people informed, the toll has risen to 123 with about another 200 missing and at this stage it is presumed no more survivors will be found. One of the big questions now, is whether Christchurch, a beautful city and a major economic and tourist centre of NZ will ever be viable.

For those of you who don't give a damn, perhaps it might be worth considering that life does exist outside of the US. And I'm speaking to you Kanemoron.

Oh I get that there are some that don't care, and you know what, who cares. If more Americans cared less about the rest of the world, and actually stayed out of it, at least militarily speaking, we'd all be better off.

You really swallow all that shit about saving the world?

I wouldn't mind if America saw itself as the big world protector if it was a nation of informed voters about world issues, but it seems that so much foreign policy is orchestrated and supported by people who know jack shit and see the world as 'good folks and bad folks and we is gonna bomb the shit outa the bad folks'.

Or like this. The world according to Kaney

Ron Paul's been preaching this for a long time. Sigh. If only it came true.

I love that map. Hilarious. So sad at the same time that so many Americans believe it is true.
