"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." -- William Casey, Reagan's presidential campaign manager & CIA Director (from first staff meeting in 1981)

Meanwhile, GOP-baggers line up to insist on federal welfare for oil companies that make a trillion dollars PROFIT in the last decade. Because, you know, they really, really , REALLY need those billions of taxpayer dollars.

By the way, they've been shrinking their American workforces the whole time their profits have been drastically increasing, too. So much for the phony idea that giving them billions of our dollars will create jobs!

Uh, guys? Democrat, Republican, Liberal, Conservative, these are just the names used to describe the North, South, East and West faces of Shit Mountain.

BOTH sides are for the same thing, they just spin it differently.

We are on the verge of having an Africa-style kleptocracy.

"On the verge"? I admire your optimism. I was under the impression we'd been a kleptocracy for some time now!

Big Oil only gets the same breaks that many other companies get, and stopping those breaks won't lower the cost of fuel at the pump 1 cent.

Except those other companies aren't turning record profits while cutting back jobs AND insisting they need that taxpayer money to create jobs they don't create.

But sure, fixate on a tine point while ignoring the crimes of your masters.

Agreed. All tax money seems to go to special interests and lobbyists. Appointed officials for regulatory commissions will jump ship after their tenure over to job offers from corporations. Meanwhile we're in three wars, the political leaders can only squabble, and the world, not just our nation but globally seems to be going to hell.

More agreement. I honestly don't know why you guys argue. For sport?

The kleptocracy is out of control, and Bernanke is the man I pin it to more than anyone else. The hypocrisy has been running for a while. Driving up oil prices is a common trick, it helps to invade every member of OPEC, take some of that oil off the market. It helps also to make a good crisis to forge bad policy from.

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

Eliminating the billions in subsidies to big oil would have been a great symbolic gesture for the country, and a nice step in the right direction. I'd love to hear the argument to keep it, especially in light of the previously mentioned $1 Trillion in profits they made 2000-2010. If Republicans are at all serious about reducing the debt and deficit, then this seems like an easy one they didn't have to blow. Oh wait, that's all they do anymore.

Giving them 21 billion of taxpayer dollars won't lower the price of gas 1 cent, either. And it won't create a single job.

The real question is, why are you so happy to give MY money to oil companies? Isn't that what you call "socialism"?

Yup. And the Dems have said they're going to include it on every piece of legislation now, just to make the GOP keep voting against ending these massive giveaways, and to make them be forced to explain why to their constituents.

Next, I'd like them to explain why hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars are being funneled to Liberty University...

What difference does it make how much profit a company makes ?

And what jobs are BIG OIL cutting back ?
Do you mean the drilling jobs, which were lost due to Obama's Gulf moratorium ? THOSE jobs ?

Oil companies have a very low profit margin on their product, and in the US , state and federal taxes far exceed what the oil companies make in profit.
