A little piece pointing out the claims by some are not supported by facts. Such as "increasing taxes will kill economic growth." Reagan had the largest peacetime tax increas in US history, a booming economy followed, along with his re-election.

How about "Higher taxes are job killers." Clinton rasied taxes saw the economy create 23 million jobs. Bush cut taxes and only 8 million new jobs were created afterwords.

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Nick, the problem is that those who pay the slightest attention to reality already understand that point, and the remainder are too delusional to realize that they're off in la-la-land. But thanks for bringing facts to the table.

I know. I'm hoping that if you keep hitting them with fact sooner later they will get it.

Well, it's an argument about different economic systems and how they're applied under different circumstances. Certainly there's been times when Keynesian economics has been the right choice for a situation, though I don't know if it's always right. Probably no nation should only use one strategy all the time. Be kinda like always throwing scissors against rock.

I agree, managing and economy is more like conducting an orchestra and less like leading a marching band.

All hail the mighty clue-by-four, while not often effective in the educational sense, by golly it does feel pretty damn good to hit people with!

The Reagan example is a bad one for many reasons but I think the most significant is the different reaction of the FED under Paul Volcker at the time. Instead of cutting interest rates to zero he actually raised rates resulting in a political backlash that no one seems able to stomach today.
I personally would probably support tax increases that were a part of comprehensive tax reform. Its just pointless at this time to raise taxes until we get our fiscal house in order. Giving more money to a drug addict because they're staving to death will only result in their quicker demise.

Raising taxes would be part of getting our fiscal house in order. Your not going to be able to do it with just spending cuts.

Nice - history - bad comparison. Tortured drug metaphor - good one.
