"Schizophrenic" is right...stock markets are ridiculous!

Overnight rebound fails to hold. Yesterday's drop in the market wiped out the prior day's rebound and left the market just above Monday's close." Seriously! In less than one week! The stock market is a joke (I know, has been for ages, but this is beyond ridiculous).

Suggestion I saw on line:

1.) When the market drops, the sky is falling. Act like it. The economy is going to be in ruins shortly.

2.) When it goes up, you called it, and everyone who thought the sky was falling is an idiot. The economy is going to be doing great in no time. The dow will reach 15 billion by 2012.

3.) When looking at past trends, the first person must point out that over the last x years, the average has been 0 return. The next person must point out that the first person is forgetting dividends.

4.) Gold is the best investment ever.

5.) Gold is a stupid investment.

That makes about as much sense as what's happening...

...meanwhile, those of us with little retirement plans sit here watching our money become worthless, worth a bit, worthless, worth a bit...and the schizophrenia goes on...

So today the Dow came up 497.01 to a level of 11216.95. I assume this means it will go DOWN an equivalent amount tomorrow? Did I say schizophrenic? I had friends who are schizophrenic, they made a LOT more sense than this. This is pure madness!

I agree with you Niki, schizophrenia makes way more sense than the stock market ever does. Ever since I was a little girl I was like .... why? Might as well brush up on your poker skills and go to Vegas, you'd probably do better and at least you'd know you had some modacum of control over how you did.

Actually, you'd have better odds if you just took your life savings to Vegas and bet it on the roulette wheel, on "black".

It's really not hard to make money playing poker or blackjack, if you're at all capable of counting cards and reading people. I win often enough that people at work won't play with me, but not often enough that my wife will let me go to Vegas to try my luck. I'll stick to a few cash games around here, and never bet more than I can afford to lose.
