Hello there kiddies, thought long and hard on what to contribute to the national debate over this country's future:
The General Election. It's "around the corner" so naturally our fearless leaders have taken to positioning themselves for the possible opening of leader of our country.

Who do we have here kiddies? Why we have some fierce competitors lining up to overtake Obama and lead this great nation. Candidates who will represent our country and it's people, all of the people, within it's borders. From sea to shining sea. A position so prestigious that everyone in the world considers it to be "The Leader of the Free World". Think about it. This person must lead an entire nation with dignity, honor and respect. And he/she would command that and much more from the people of this planet (even those obscure tribes in the Amazon jungle are aware of the presidency).

Where am I going with all of this?

The Republican Debates, that's where. Could you imagine any of those people leading our nation? Who among them is a leader? Does anyone know? Will he/she represent all of the people of the U.S.? Will the new president be concerned about every single american? Will that person lead with distinction, honor and forthrightness?

Let's take a look, shall we. Which of them shall stand out as leader of the free world, with the above-mentioned honor and forthrightness we've come to expect from our president. Which one shall distinguish himself and command the respect of the free world? Is the new commander-in-chief among these honorable men and women of distinction?
How did the debates go last night?

I watched for a little while. It was just the usually GOP talking points and each person trying to out "right" the other.

I never watch, I don't have a strong enough stomach. I can pretty much speak the lines myself in my head, already knowing what I do about the field. As mentioned, they all just get up there to out-right the others, pure unadulterated pandering to the Tea Party and extremists. Every politician does a certain amount of that in the primaries, but, like everything else the current Tea Partiers are forcing the GOP candidates to do, the lies and spin have been enough to make one's head spin these days.

There isn't one of them I can even stomach THINKING about as President. What they would do to this country, especially if they got control of one or both houses, is terrifying. Look what all those governors and legislatures who were swept into office in 2010 have accomplished...that's pretty much all you need to know!

Bachman and Perry in particular are absolutely abhorrent to me--I'd add Palin but she's only pretending, in order to up her speaking fees and get attention. No, actually, thinking about things I've heard from the others, and all those raised hands about evolution, they ALL scare the pants off me. I will once again be ashamed to be an American, just like I was under Bush, if any of them get into office. The world laughed at us and hated us enough last time around; imagine what they would make of one of THESE crazies were our President.

Oh, for the day to come around when I can CHOOSE between two viable candidates, instead of being stuck (seemingly forever) voting for the "lesser of two evils"!

It was such a clear and perfect moment, though, listening to the crowd "Boo" a soldier serving in Iraq. Tells us all we really need to know about the GOP and conservatives in general, doesn't it?

So far in the GOP debates, we've heard so-called conservatives boo active-duty soldiers in a war zone, cheer state-sponsored murder, and yell "Let 'em die!" in regards to those without insurance.

Classy bunch.

Funny, there was no where near as much attention paid to Obama at this stage of the '08 election by the Left. Oh, but now that we're at the doorstep of 2012, it's time to trash the Right!

Posting evidence of Obama talking out of both sides of his mouth would result in crickets chirping, followed by an array of through-the-looking-glass explanations as to why when Obama does something, it's ok, but when the GOP does it...omg! They're imbeciles

Any number of candidates from the GOP would be a HUGE improvement over Obama. I laugh at the feeble attempts by a few die hard Lefties to tell us " all is well, remain calm! ", when the country is collapsing at the helm of the 1st Community Organizer of Chief.

Amazing. Nothing to say, just parroting the slime running around his brain. Ah, well...

What I heard was that it was two guys who dissed the marines, and the rest of the noise was the crowd hissing and booing at THEM to shut up. I think that is far more likely than the entire crowd attacking the Marines. This is a gung-ho-military crowd, and I think that overcomes their hate-the-gay mentality pretty strongly. Personally, I buy it.

But it DOES look like their Messiah, their Shining Star, is slipping down the sky...Awwwww. Bachman must be downright ECSTATIC!

And yeah, I've seen the articles detailing all the lies, side-stepping, "I didn't say that" and other silliness. It means nothing, tho', because you KNOW the crowd eats it up and sees no hypocrisy in any of it...that's what happens when you don't use your brain and just react on gut instinct.

Mitt Romney is going to be the challenger to Obama next November, and there are a few great VP choices he can make to strengthen the ticket. Perry stumbled badly at the debate, and the new polls show it.

It's almost as laughable as someone running around here yelling "The economy is ON FIRE!" while the whole housing and financial market collapsed under The Great Decider.

Funny you should mention 2008 Elections. Ok, class, could anyone tell Mr. Auraptor what the headline of the day was back in 2008. Hmmmmmmm, was it Near Economic Collapse. If it please the court, I would like to submit into evidence Exhibit A - The man in charge at the beginning of said Economic Turmoil, George W. Bush (cough, cough Cheney). In fact, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I would go as far as saying, the real architects of the New Depression. President Obama, with all his mistakes (I was thoroughly disappointed in his handling of Pakistan bombings, Debt ceiling fiasco, among others) did not cause this. Those who believe he caused the near economic collapse in our country, that nearly toppled the world's economy, are monumentally mistaken and subjected to - everybody - the Sith mind trick (it's somewhat like the Jedi mind trick except for evil, they say it you believe it). You know what they say about the mind trick.

If it please the court, Mr. Auraptor's line of reasoning is irrevelant to the case at hand. I refer to the article presented by yours truly. The Associated Press dateline article that points out the inconsistencies in the participants prior utterences and statements, and how they back pedaled faster than an acrobat in the Ringaling Brothers circus. How denial is not a river in Egypt, but rather a political strategy invoked by those in the circus, er, debate in question. President Obama's mistakes notwithstanding, these so-called debates will hinge greatly, IMHO, on who will be deemed credible enough to become the challenger, within the republican world. This candidate must win over the general populace of voters, those who have not fallen under the spell of the Dark Sith lord (we dare not say his name again), and I dare say that there are republican followers in this country who have not succumbed. Yes, I admit it - there are some middle-of-the-road Americans (God bless 'em) who actually think things through before coming to a decision.

The far right and the far left have their agendas, but it is those middle thinkers that affect change in America. It is they who will decide. It is they that must be swayed, and no amount of back-pedaling, rhetoric or mind tricks will move them to make a poor decision when it comes to the electing the Leader of the Free World. Not even Bachmann and her clever word play.....(ah man, I can't say it with a straight face). This is a woman who once claimed that there is no scientific proof that "can be produced that shows that carbon dioxide is a harmful gas.” Ok, let's put it to the test. Put her in a sealed room, pump the gas in and see if she comes out of it intact. "Glenn Beck can solve the economic crisis," really? why hasn't he? There are people who believe this woman can run the country. I seriously doubt that. It's a free country, if she wants to run.

Which brings me to Texas Governor Rick Perry. He recently stated, "Washington's insatiable desire to spend our children's inheritance on failed stimulus plans and other misguided economic theories have given us record debt and left us with far too many unemployed," - really? This is the same person, who in 2003 to 2005 secured more than $1.5 Billion in federal funding for the great state of Texas. God knows they need it, but why the about face? Basically it's to appease the Tea Party voters. Much of the monies he appropriated has gone into dubious endeavors: "Much of the money in this provision was directed to an unnamed consortium, which seemed to describe a private-sector partnership operating in the offices of the Texas Energy Center, a Perry-funded project in Sugar Land, Texas. I could go on, but here's the article.........................see for yourself.

http://livenws.blogspot.com/2011/08/how-rick-perry-aggressively-pursue
d.html

This is what I was talking about in my post; kooky utterences, selective memories and complete 180s in the political landscape. It's politics as usual, those who have the money, ill-gotten booty "appropriated" from the Federal goernment (namely John Q. Public, taxpayer), get to play at being president. These candidates a huge improvement? Is that what they told you, and you believe it. No one said they're imbeciles, 'cause, quite frankly, they are sitting in the driver seat. I speak out against abject pandering and fear-mongering to get a vote, especially to the highest office in the world. Pure and simple, the truth will out.

Oh, BTW, I'm an American, born and raised. Thank god it's still a free country.

Good point, you're right. Who set it a blaze? Starts with an R. De-regulation and "free enterprise" contributed greatly to the greediest era of modern economic history. It's capitalism at it's finest, but someone made money somewhere.

The choices suck brick. I wish Obama would cut his losses and not run for a second term. My dad was just saying, and he never thought he'd say this a few years ago, that he wishes Hilary Clinton would run, she'd be way better than our current position holder in his opinion, maybe he's right, probably he's right, I feel like she knows the game better. And the Repub candidates? Ug.

Good for them. They of course were doing that because they don't like the idea of government helping people to get homes.

Fannie and Freddie had little to do with the housing market crash. That was caused by sup-prime lending that banks rolled into investments. The banks could do that because of deregulation, specifically the repeal of the Glass-Steagle act.

Your evidence for this is - where ? I mean, go ahead and ignore the very facts of WHY there needed to be more regulation, and what was being said, by both parties. It was clear that members of the GOP were warning that, if nothing was done to reform the practices, that Fannie and Freddie were headed for a disaster , as it ultimately occurrred. Exactly as they predicted it would.

So, how does that translate to " they don't like the idea of govt helping people get a home " ??

Yes, the sub prime lending collapse STARTED with the bundling of bad loans, by who ? Fannie and Freddie.

Wow... why am I wasting my time w/ you ? You clearly don't want to be informed, so much so , you're literally running full speed away from the facts.

Simple, they were attacking Freddie and Fannie, which had fairly strict standards for their mortgages, while allowing other lenders to give out non-conforming sup-prime loans. You know the ones with no money down and adjustable rates.

Fannie and Freddie were buying not selling the mortgage backed securities. That is why when the crash hit they held so many of the overall mortgages. They were buying them because they were at one time good investment. Of course they were lead to believe that they were solid investment. They started buying them in 1995 and continued to increase their holdings until around 2008.

The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission found that Fannie and Freddie contributed to the crisis, but were not the primary cause of it.
