He didn't call Obama " Hitler ", but he compared his playing golf w/ Boehner as like being Hitler playing with Netanyahu. He wasn't calling Boehner a Jew, either, just commenting on the vast differences between them.

Was it a bit over the top, an exaggeration ? Sure. Hank Jr was going for a bit of shock value, as is his way.

Far from the literal comparisons to Hitler , coming from the Left, directed toward W.

NEW YORK — What MoveOn.org wanted was for people to submit 30-second ads that were critical of President Bush, but what the liberal-leaning organization got was a controversy over one entry that compared Bush to Adolf Hitler (search ).

The ad in question used a tape recording of the Nazi leader speaking while it showed images of Hitler and German military prowess during World War II. At the end of the ad, a photo of Bush raising his hand to take the oath of office is seen.

"A nation warped by lies. Lies fuel fear. Fear fuels aggression. Invasion. Occupation. What were war crimes in 1945 is foreign policy in 2003," the ad said.

So, it's well with in the bounds of accepted political rhetoric to CALL Bush 'Hitler', but completely out of bounds to even make a reference of Obama being like Hitler,on any level ?

Obama's polices, massive govt spending and public works projects to help stimulate a sagging unemployment rate, is directly the same Keynesian model that Hitler used.

It was a stupid analogy in the first place, and it was stupid to say it on national tv. ESPN was 100% correct in this situation to sever ties with him.

espn can do what ever the hell it pleases. That's not the issue. The double standard being presented by the MSM, is.

... Williams learned an unwritten rule in public speaking: comparisons to Hitler and Nazi Germany never work.

Which isn't to say that such comments always draw outrage. From January 20, 2001 to January 19, 2009—those would be the Bush years—the left was awash with celebrities comparing President George W. Bush to Hitler.

Comedian and actress Janeane Garofalo was a constant critic of Bush, once referring to the Bush administration as the "43rd Reich."

Actor David Clennon, of the television series The Agency and Ghost Whisperer, said, "I'm not comparing Bush to Adolf Hitler—because George Bush, for one thing, is not as smart as Adolf Hitler. And secondly George Bush has much more power than Adolf Hitler ever had."

Following the 2004 elections, singer Linda Ronstadt attacked not only Bush, but all newly-elected Republicans, saying, "Now we've got a new bunch of Hitlers."

Even universally beloved crooner Tony Bennett (full disclosure: I have tickets to see Bennett perform next week) has gotten into the act, blaming the United States for the attack on 9/11, telling Howard Stern last week, "But who are the terrorists? Are we the terrorists or are they the terrorists? ... They flew the plane in, but we caused it."

Bennett is currently selling a lot more records than Williams—his Duets II album is the No. 1 selling album in the nation—but Bennett's comments barely caused a ripple compared to Williams's equally bone-headed words.

Celebrity comparisons of Republicans and Hitler, however, are not merely limited to the occasional offhand hateful comment. Often these comparisons have been pre-planned multi-media attacks.

During the 2008 elections, Madonna used the appropriately-titled song "Get Stupid" to display images of Sen. John McCain alongside Hitler and Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe, while showing Obama alongside Mahatma Gandhi and John Lennon. And, far from receiving the same fate as Hank Williams, Jr., Madonna appears to be a shoo-in to perform at this season's Super Bowl.

Words and actions have consequences, Hank Williams, Jr., rightfully learned this week. Well, sometimes they have consequences.

"Talk about bad taste!" a theatergoer proclaims, while storming out of the fictitious "Springtime for Hitler" in Mel Brooks's The Producers; which serves as a good reminder: If any celebrity is going to revel in their own bad taste involving Hitler—let it be Mel Brooks. He's the only one who can get away with it.

STORYMARK

I actually agree with Rappy. Williams didn't call Obama Hitler, and no, I don't think he should have been taken off the air for it. It was a stupid analogy to make on national TV though.

He did call the President "The Enemy" and deserves the flack he gets for that. And he should stop his whining about his first ammendment rights, as they were not violated, and complaining just makes him look like a crybaby.

"Goram it kid, let's frak this thing and go home! Engage!"

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

Good, stirring music is good, stirring music. Now there is a bit less good music associated with sports events.

I don't care about the artist, but I will miss the art. Do I need to advocate all of the beliefs of Freddy Mercury in order to enjoy his music? Is a vote for Nirvana a vote for suicide?

I'll miss hearing the song during the events.

Oh, I think people will call other people Hitler on both sides of the aisle, and everyone else will think they're kinda dumb for even making the comparison.

On the other hand, the fact that so many people from either side of the arena compare just about every political leader to Hitler at some point or another really doesn't speak well about the state of the world and our leadership in general.

To speak plainly, this world sucks.

That double standard has been around for a long time. An intelligent person should know how to navigate through all the hypocrisy. What MoveOn or Bill Mahr and his pals say is not the same thing as what Monday Night Football's goodwill ambassador says. Yes the MSM creates ultra-sensitivity around Obama. One must be on one's A-game in terms of intelligence and respect when trying to go after Obama. I didn't make the rules.
