Lol, cute.

I think that it's more like, oh, I was a wall street exec, I decided to go slumming, pretend to be the 99% and I hook up with this hot chick and we have a really hippie shag in central park only come to find out that she's a daytrader with Lehman.

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

Except - all I see is a big, black, blank. You might want to re-do your post. Otherwise, you look silly. Except. Why should now be any different. Never mind.

We have to realize that the biosphere we live in is fragile and cannot be treated like a battered wife because the surface of the planet itself is not fragile. It will simply adjust probably eliminating us in the process. The core of the planet is beyond our ability to affect and can deal up some pretty horrific to us events. The space around the planet is hostile beyond our comprehension. And there are no exits.

EVERY SINGLE YEAR BETWEEN 1996 AND 2005 66% OF ALL FCDS CORPORATIONS PAID NO TAXES.
I think the current tax structure is about right for corporations. - Geezer

Without the benefit of the surrounding society, a corporation dies. If society looks at a corporation and says 'work, or die', what work should be demanded of the corporation for it to earn its survival?

While Wall St. is going through the roof, Main St. is paying all the bills.

Remember when teachers, public employees, Planned Parenthood, NPR and PBS crashed the stock market, wiped out half of our 401Ks, took trillions in taxpayer funded bailouts, spilled oil in the Gulf of Mexico, gave themselves billions in bonuses, and paid no taxes?

Yeah, me neither....

Hello,

Having watched the now working embedded link (Day 1, Mr. Raptor) I find that the presenter has some salient points. However, his commentary is also off in places.

One of those places is right off the bat, when he describes the Occupiers as 'over-educated.'

Another is when he assumes the occupiers have no interest in helping the homeless, and when he implies that they do not volunteer in their communities. Also, he assumes that all occupiers are jobless, and this is certainly not the case for all of them.

Finally, he overlooks the necessity of using 'evil corporate overlord equipment' by any political movement in this country. Of course everything we own is made by a corporation, unless we are tanners, weavers, tailors, cobblers, and blacksmiths. However, there is something to be said for using the enemy's own system to defeat them. I am sure that many protesters used their debit cards when purchasing items to protest debit fees.

Which seems silly, until you realize that public pressure (including pressure placed by these protesters) helped to convince the banks to make their debit fees disappear. So an action that seemed self-defeating in a superficial analysis actually proved successful in the long run.

It's also important to note that the vast majority of protesters do not have a blanket disapproval of all businesses and all profit motive. Sure, there is a healthy amount of support for socialism in the crowd, but there are also individuals who simply want greater moderation of corporate greed.

The presenter has to turn the strawman up to 11 in order to make his point, and even then he overlooks basic necessity in order to attack the opposition.

Entertaining presentation, but not entirely convincing.

I think what the video points out is that the Occupy crowd is extremely short sighted. For the world to work as they want it to, prices for goods and services would sky rocket. The 1% would get MORE of the high end goodies, and the unemployment would be higher as well.

The Occupy gang is targeting the wrong people. They should be marching on D.C., in front of the White House, not the private sector.

Hello,

I'm not entirely sure about that. If we posit that the politicians are the paid agents of private enterprise, then the Occupy crowd could be seen as 'skipping the middleman.'

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Well, I watched the first minute or so, beyond that, nothing is necessary. Utilizing the tools available at the time is an obvious thing to do by anyone protesting anything, so the entire concept is stupid, for one thing. For another, it's not the people who MAKE things, or even the companies themselves, it's those at the top who are making gigantic salaries, golden parachutes, etc., who we are protesting. Just clicking off the tools that were used is an assinine way to make...some kind of point, I'm not sure what.

And of course, it was put up for no other reason than to vent his now-pretty-obsessive hatred of anything having to do with the Occupy movement, and to start something in order to get attention. Seems he's well on his way to both.

I'll let a couple of the commenters speak for me, given it's a waste of time and energy to respond myself, as this is a total non-issue.

Your smug dismissal of those trying to have their voices heard combined with the obvious self? congratulating attitude you exude as if you have it all figured out because you are the smartest guy in the room is profoundly ugly .. you actually exude a fundamental naivete.

corporate greed is the employees getting a 1% raise, when the CEO gets a $10 million dollar bonus, while the stock is at record highs, and they are cutting spending? and employee training due to "tough times"
Quote:

can't help but think that you are completely and totally missing the point. The Wall St. protesters are not protesting against? the right of corporations to make money. To live in the United States, unless your living in a hippie compound, your going to need to be supported by a corporation in one capacity or the next. They are protesting Wall St. investors that played fast and loose with our countries future and basically drove the car into the ditch.
And finally, Raptor shows his colors quite clearly: "America, love it or leave it."

'Nuff said.

Good to see you let others do your research & speak for you. Would be more impressive if you watched the whole vid, but that's not you. I get it.

Wall Street only did what the govt allowed & mandated them to do. This is all by design, primarily from the Left. The protest should be directed @ 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, not WS.

Does it matter, Nick? He doesn't care, he just wants anyone who disagrees with the current system, or wants to work to improve it, to be GONE.

I find it amusing that he thinks I should have watched the entire video, given the crux of it was obvious from the very start. The difference between "wasting time" and "research" obviously escapes him. But then, that's nothing new; he wants attention from everyone, so anyone not giving what he puts up sufficient "attention" is worthy of name calling and little else. No surprise there either.

Thank you, Nick, that's interesting. As to what "cops and local news" are saying, I'd like to see cites, and even then I'd take it with a grain of salt. Given the education I just received regarding how the news reports what happens, I'm not taking anyone's word for anything any more without some sort of proof. I have no doubt there are problems, it would be all but impossible to avoid them in such a situation, but the degree "reported" is questionable, to me.

I recognize the desire, and need, of those on the right to believe the worst, and show this movement in the worst possible light. I accept that. I also accept that it changes nothing.

Worthless...that is why Republicans are starting to change their tone regarding the movement.

http://www.npr.org/2011/11/04/142002704/income-gap-becomes-politicians
-latest-battleground

One Republican who wants to avoid that trap is presidential candidate Mitt Romney. He initially called the Occupy Wall Street protests dangerous, but now he says he understands people's frustrations.

"I don't worry about the top 1 percent. I don't stay up nights worrying about 'Gee, we need to help them.' I don't think about that. I'm not worried about that. They're doing just fine by themselves," he has said. "I worry about the 99 percent in America."

Other Republicans are changing their tone as well. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), who once called the Wall Street protesters a "growing mob" now says he wants to have a policy discussion about solutions to the income gap.

Hello,

If only the efforts of law enforcement were centered on stopping rapists and violent people. As they should be.

Unfortunately, law enforcement, and people such as yourself, are more intent on ending a popular uprising of peaceful protesters rather than dealing with the actual, specific crime being committed.

Worse, by making themselves daily enemies of the movement itself, law enforcement representatives are actually fostering this kind of violation- for who would feel comfortable asking help from the officers who bean-bagged you yesterday from the barrel of a shotgun, or launched a tear-gas canister at your friend's head?

Yes, you CARE more about everyone, and that makes you a better person, huh?

Make things better - HOW ?

That small detail always seems to get tossed out when the flood of sappy, vapid, mindless rhetoric starts flowing from the mouths of the Occutard types.

I get it. The economy sucks. But taking a dump on the US flag or a cop car, smashing the windows of legitimate businesses, or raping anyone in a tent isn't exactly going to produce any positive results now, is it ?

It is not OWS chaos and violence. It is the violence of others taking advantage of the protesters.

The destruction is from a few individuals, not the whole movement. The vast majority of OWS protested denounce these actions.

It is not rhetoric, nor is it mindless. It is the fact that greed from the top continues to make things worse the the vast majority of others. That really is a simple concept. People before profits.

I do not fear God, I fear the ignorance of man.

It's not just the destruction, but the completely wasted time and effort, of the public resources, ( fire, EMT, police, sanitation... ) too, and for what ?

This isn't helping, it's only making matters worse. Which is EXACTLY what the organizers , the ones behind all this astroturf, are hoping to do.

Useful idiots, all of you.

You can't tell them apart. The bad elements are growing larger, and are chasing out the non-violent. The violence will only escalate until the whole movement is left with nothing but Athens-style anarchists burning things down.

...and you are a blind fool.

People are taking notice, as posted even some on the other side are starting to acknowledge the problem.

If they where "useful idiots" or astroturfing then how can you claim they are unorganized, or don't have a clear message?

I'm sorry you can't deal with the fact that so many people don't share your views.

Underemployed college grad with an Art History degree and $40K in student loan debt, or homeless drunk who hasn't bathed since being caught in a heavy downpour, sometime around mid August.

It's a toss up.

Ten cops were injured in the Oakland riot. They had rocks and bottle gas bombs tossed at them. Millions of dollars of property was damaged or destroyed. Think about the children of these policemen having to see their daddy hurt for no reason. Didn't VP Joe Biden just a couple of weeks ago blather on about needing more cops to prevent rapes and crime? And this is what the Left does...try to injure or kill cops? Oakland, NYC, and Denver have all deteriorated into violence and mayhem. It's kinda nice though to see it on full display, and it's interesting politically to see who still supports this Obama-made G 20-style of destruction and wasteful confrontation. It's really nothing less than home-grown terrorism. I just hope it's all being recorded and filed properly for extensive use by every Republican running for office next year. So many Democrats and "prominent" Liberals have given their blessings and support for ows; well I just can't wait until every single one of them, except a few notable loons who will never concede, has to squirm in humiliation as they're confronted with what they've done.

ps.for Mr Isall
It's like in the original BG pilot when the President of the Council (Lew Ayers) turned to look for his friend Baltar, only then, in that moment of realization of Baltar's betrayal, did he finally grasp that his reckless innocence had caused the destruction of his civilization. I know you have never forgotten that agonizing look on his twisted face as he cried out in vain for help, and begged forgiveness for his mistake.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

"Hey Kiki, you've sure got a lot of quotes at the end of your posts, and the list is growing."

I like messages and the pretty colors. But I can see how scrolling could be tedious. When I get the time I'll find shorter quotes I like as much. Till then, I'll reserve all those quotes and pretty colors for special occasions.
