Been a while since I last surfed this wee portion of the Internet. A year or more.

Despite Haken's attempts at creating a technically updated version of this site, well, it's kinda obvious that there aren't that many folk posting to it any more. All you RWD'ers pretty much amount to the largest percentage of posters here, and, sadly, that's not saying much.

Enough years have passed such that Fox Corp has lost it's exclusive contractual hold upon the Firefly series, yet Whedon hasn't seized the initiative to attempt a resurrection. His call, his choice, gotta respect that.

This is over, done, but for the last 20 people who bother to post here any more, and Haken's willingness to keep this site alive relative to what it costs him to maintain the server.

Peace. It was a great ride for a short while.

SERENITY was on SyFy again tonight.

Though I fear you are right, as far as Joss is concerned. The adventures of our favorite Firelfy transport and her crew, have likely come to an end.

New Firefly comics. Got the story rights back in 2012. Ten new members in the last two months, half of them writing fanfic.

Hafta disagree.

I'm not dissing the comics, as they do keep the story going, to some degree, but seriously? What % of sci-fi fans in general really follow that medium ? I'll take new members, absolutely. More on this crew, the better. But comics aren't what brought me to Serenity. And to be honest, they're not enough to keep me around, waiting for a slim chance of more to come.

If there's a revival, then fine. But I need more than fan fics and comic books.

You are incorrect. The exclusive contractual hold is, last I heard, still in effect. There was a news snippit somewhere about "finally being allowed to write new stories set pre-movie" starting sometime next year. That means aforementioned exclusive contractual hold is not up until next year. It's unfortunate that a contract would last so long on a property that the corporation had so little interest in pursuing, but it seems very little could be done about it.

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

So sad. Somehow I had visions that the rest of the site was still active, what with all the forums, Castle, etc., just that I only hung out down here. Doubly sad to learn otherwise, given the "quality" of the posting here.

Yeah, I caught Serenity last night too--weekends I look forward to the trash movies on Sci-Fi channel, but for once they had something of value! Enjoyed it all over again, tho' I DID find myself quoting along with them far too often...!

Bless Haken twice, thrice as much, if what you say is the case, he is truly a man of mercy to keep this site alive--AND to keep it so beautiful! I love the new version, even tho' I had trouble with it at first, I haven't been "back" since I figgered it out. Lotta work there. Thank you Haken, many times over.

I don't get it. Is it POSSIBLE to quote Firefly / Serenity too often ?

And after movie too, LiLi.

In fact the next comic is a post-movie perspective form Mal. We'll get a good look at how the crew has been holding up, and about Zoe's little surprise.

The movement needs a push from Joss. He's busy with Avengers. After it gets out, if it makes a ton of money, he'll have some leverage. Maybe he can do what he wants to do. And if the rights become available then, and he wants to, maybe he'll choose to do Firefly again.

Gotta remember, it took Roddenberry 18 years to get the Star Trek movie and restart that whole thing.

SO maybe next year, we'll see if Joss really has the desire to do more. Then it's just a matter of seeing if the cast is available.

Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

Probably no one will agree with me, but I think a high-quality animated series is our best bet for a continuation of the 'verse.

The actors can record lines while still continuing their careers. And they may do it at reasonable rates because they love the project.

I think maybe 12-20 episodes at maybe 1.5 million per episode. Maybe even get Netflix to produce the thing, since they are keen on having their own shows (like Mad Men.)

Oh no, actually I'd love an animation. Style not quite anime (Mal and Jayne tend to look a little TOO pretty that way) and not quite pure western, but a stylized blend somewhere in between.

I've actually done some experimenting with style, as have a few other people on the boards. Plenty out here who'd like that. Just have to convince some of these people who think cartoons are just for kids.

Nope - less than a decade, in fact. Star Trek went off air in '69, and the movie was in theaters in '79. Figure it took at least a year to line things up (money, cast, crew, script, sets, etc.) and make the movie and edit it (and it takes far longer, typically), and you've got a timeline of less than a decade from end of show to movie release.

I'd love to see Joss line things up for more adventures in the 'verse, but only time will tell. Well, time and money, really...

That would sooo not be my problem with an animated Firefly. (I watch South Park, I'm well aware animation is not just for kids.) Thing is, the actors brought so much to the show in terms of body language and facial expression, I'm not sure animation could do that justice. Don't get me wrong, if it's the only option I'll be right on board watching it, just like I read the comic books, but it wouldn't be the same.

What reason had proved best ceased to look absurd to the eye, which shows how idle it is to think anything ridiculous except what is wrong.

PEACEKEEPER

Keeping order in every verse

It does seem that the board is gradually winding down, yes.But what can be expected. We only have 14 eps worth of discussion plus the BDM. I'm sure every avenue has been pretty much exhausted or rehashed in some fashion. As for the RWED, I'll admit I only take a cursory glance these days. Other than American politics, there ain't much for us outsiders to contribute. But that's just the nature of the beast, I suppose.

Well I don't think Browncoatdom is dead at all. And honestly I'm afraid Joss would mess it up, this comic Byte mentioned is worrysome to me because a post BDM comic potentially rutting up cannon scares the crap out of me. I can't trust Joss. With fanfic writers they can do whatever they want but I can ignore it if I want. But with official material ... things can get fowled up and I'll have no recourse. Firefly has become something too big to confine into a cannon box anymore. I wish Joss would do a comic about Inara's past instead, nothing can go wrong there.

I suppose my saving grace is that not everyone likes the comics, so they are really only "half cannon" as far as the masses are concerned.

But I believe that this whole thing has become too big to die anytime soon. I don't know how many people used to post here, but if there were anymore than there are now I wouldn't have enough time to keep up with them all. Of course I'd still welcome an influx of members, but I don't think the threadstarter's diar predictions are accurate.

My bad, the Fox contract doesn't expire until sometime in 2012. Probably around the time the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world as we know it, such that in a crackpot mystical sense us fans are doubly screwed.

Darn.

Howdy, I'd just like to point out that I JUST joined this site( TOTALLY love it btw), and I might even write some fanfics (I've definetally been reading them!), so don't think Browncoats are going anywhere anytime soon! I've even converted 3 people this year to the show, and they were instantly addicted, and asked me "why was this canceled? This can't be it! How can we get more??". So I'm thinking it's not over, I mean Serenity was made pretty much because of the fans begging for more, and there are still fans aplenty out there! I think that makes us mighty enough to do the impossible(: I still think the Browncoats will rise again, someday!((: a person can hope at least!

No power in the 'Verse can stop me.

Try looking at it a bit more optimistically. The Mayan calendar doesn't predict anything of the sort. 12/21/2012 is the end of the Mayan "Great Cycle", *NOT* the end of the world. And then begins ANOTHER great cycle. Things don't end, according to the lore, they are just simply different.

So maybe 2012 isn't the end of anything, but rather a new beginning, for us, the world, and Firefly as well.
