NBC has apologized to Rep. Michele Bachmann after the house band for "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" played an inappropriate song during her appearance on the show Monday, CNN confirmed Thursday.

Bachmann received a letter Wednesday from Doug Vaughan, NBC's senior vice president for special programs and late night, that apologized for what happened and called the incident "not only unfortunate but also unacceptable," said Alice Stewart, the Republican presidential hopeful's spokeswoman.

According to Stewart, the letter also said the show's band, which played the song "Lyin' Ass Bitch" by Fishbone as Bachmann first appeared on stage, was "severely reprimanded."

"She accepted the apology," Stewart told CNN Thursday.

Bachmann also spoke to Fallon Wednesday and had a "nice conversation," said Stewart, who described the late night host as "remorseful" and "a class act."

Fallon had offered an apology via Twitter on Tuesday, but Bachmann then called for an official apology from NBC.

The controversy started Monday when the Minnesota congresswoman walked out to greet Fallon on stage, and the show's band, The Roots, played the Fishbone song.

Bachmann admitted being oblivious to the slight, telling Fox News on Wednesday that she "wasn't aware of it at all."

She insisted the treatment she received through the song amounted to "sexism," and she added that it "wouldn't be tolerated if it was Michelle Obama and shouldn't be tolerated for a conservative woman, either."

Still, she said, "I'd love to go back again."

Some of Bachmann's ire was directed toward the drummer of Fallon's house band, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson.

"If that song had been played for Michelle Obama I have no doubt that NBC would've apologized to her and likely they could've fired the drummer or at least suspended him. None of that happened from NBC and this is clearly a form of the bias on the part of the Hollywood entertainment elite," Bachmann said.

The song choice appeared to be intentional. Prior to Bachmann's arrival on stage, the band's drummer, Questlove, tweeted during the show: "Aight late night walkon song devotees: you love it when we snark: this next one takes the cake. ask around cause i aint tweeting title." http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/24/showbiz/nbc-bachmann-apology/index.html

Fun-ny! She didn't even know what it was, didn't notice it, but by gawd, once she KNEW about it, all hell broke loose! Great fodder for her to use the standard lines about Michelle B and "Hollywood" villains. Apparently they kissed and made up, but funny anyway.

Hello,

I imagine I might be offended if that was done to me. I probably wouldn't have recognized the song either, but once someone explained to me what it was, I can see being irked. It's rather rude to invite someone on your show and then insult them- even clandestinely.

And you'd immediately pick up on the version of any song played by a late night t.v. band, as you walked out on stage? I doubt I'd know that song, either. How's that relevant to the story ? They openly dissed her, a sitting US Congresswoman and candidate for President.

Had it been Ann Coulter, and they played ' the bitch is back' or some such, it'd still be distasteful, but there'd be at least an ounce of tongue in cheek humor there. But this ? Ridiculous.

And Bachmann's right, of course. Had it been any number of Left wing women, and a similarly derogatory song been used for her intro, all HELL would be breaking loose. But because she's conservative, you just smirk and look the other way.

Crassic.

Yeah, Anthony, anyone would be offended, I have no problem with that and they DEFINITELY owed her an apology. I just got a kick out of it, in bad taste as it was. Tho' the Coulter thing made me smile.

I think if FauxNews dared, something similar would happen--except they wouldn't HAVE any sort of progressive on any of their shows. They don't have late-night comedy, anyway...do they have any comedy? Aside from the unintentional variety, I mean.

Red Eye, on FOX News, is pretty darn funny. It's not anything like a late-night talk show, with a band or anything, but there is humor. They rag on each other as much as they do the other folks they're talking about, so that's kinda funny. It's sorta like Chelsea Lately, but the 'guests' are on the show the entire time.

Though, nothing about what is or isn't on FOX News or the FOX network has anything to do w/ what Jimmy Fallon DID do, on NBC.

It's her own fault for going on that show and that network. What'd she expect, a lovefest, or even a scintilla of sincerity?

I love to watch Red Eye whenever I'm ever up at that hour. Always great laughs. Gutfeld rules!....except if SE Cupp is on the show.
