Oh. For a moment I was confused and thought you were literally going to adopt a puppy.

I guess technically the leash should still work.

Yep, its our first child. Right now Mrs. Wulf has morning sickness pretty bad... (why they call it "morning sickness" and not "all-day-long-or-whenever-I-feel-like-it-sickness" is beyond me).

We are very excited and are looking forward to the first sonogram.

Careful with the sonograms, from over here in the paranoid about medicine corner. It's probably a good idea for detecting problems early, but don't go for the "watch the baby" sonogram, because it's really bad for the baby to leave the machine on. It seems to disrupt brain development

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14231914/ns/health-childrens_health/t/ultr

My double paranoia says "yes, but also the MSM likes to run scare stories about preventative care because the want to abolish the concept." Still, probably a good idea not to leave the machine running to watch the baby like people do on TV shows and movies.

Name challenge

Girls: Taara, ilo, Vetevana, or for the more mundane, Linda. (Also, Annettte and Tarja are nice names) Marjatta

Boys: Ooh, that's a toughie. It's harder to get away with being creative in a boys name* but I'll try: Toll, you really can't get away with names like Lemminkäinen or Väinämöinen. Aleksandr.

* if you're white

I will propose my usual awful names, that I trot out every time someone in the extended family gets pregnant. Thank whatever deities that you have, guys, that you don't have to go to the BORING baby showers like us women do.

If a girl:

Sheniqua
Lashawndra
Zinc
Volva

If a boy:

Neon
Cobalt
Furious
Tiburon

And, of course, no bad name is complete without pairing it up with a middle name phrase. Such as "I Don't Know How To Swim" or "What's On The Television Tonight" or "Hell Is Other People" or "I Need A Drink."

I like Zinc and Furious. I have not heard of the middle name phrase, must be new, really opens things up don't it? I think in the spirit of more is more and to effect a sense of privilege Wulf should celebrate his new born's birthweek instead of birthday. A present a day for a week!

<_< I actually wasn't mocking Wulf... I actually DO do that to my family.

They have the worst baby showers you can imagine. After I invented "Bad Baby Name Game" as a survival mechanism, it kind of became traditional for me.

Sorry. ._.

Another good middle name phrase.

I used to work banquets and did a number of baby showers. My favorite one was all Japanese women, they did not speak any english so when they opened their gifts all we heard from the other room was:
paper rustling, oooooooohhhhh, aaaaaaahhhhhh, *japanese exclamations of delight*

Mine was mostly unexpected.

Pizmo: you know my pain.

Wulf: I don't normally do sentimental, but after some thought I decided this deserved a little more than my token non-effort.

This is going to be really cool. There's going to be another little browncoat running around in the world.

Also, you'll do all right parenting I think. If you ever get worried about how you're doing, just remember, at least you didn't name your kid Buffalo Chicken.

Well every pregnancy is different so some women do feel sick a lot all day long in the first trimester. Is she sensative to smells and tastes or even topics brought up around her? I've seen that happen.

I'm sure you guys will pick a suitable name on your own.

Wish, its more like the "nothing will be the same EVER" club, because you don't stop being their mom once they're grown, they'll always be your kids. I know you know this.

Riona's got it right - my boss's first pregnancy was hell on her. She was sick all day, every day, and it was set off by the slightest things - the smell of one thing, the sight of another, the thought of a third; you name it, it made her sick.

She's well into her second pregnancy now, and it's much easier on her. So take that to heart - the next one's supposed to be better!

Yes, but I hear yer supposed to give them a tad bit of space long about 18-20. You still get to worry, but not do much about it... Then eventually it's dinner every other Sunday... and not still trying to buy their underwear at 30, like certain mothers-in-law who shall not be named I vow to give space....

Post of the week, Byte.

I had to add some additional names -

For boys

Robocop
Entity
Starfish
Egg
Awesome

For Girls

Pineapple
Chocolate
Meow
Tiara
Piano

As for middle names, you can't beat the 18th century religious types for their 'Walk With Jesus Smith' "Cleanliness is Next to Godliness Johnson".

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Big congrats, Wulf; in this day and age, I think ANYONE brave enough to have a kid is worth a huzzah! Well, anyone who actually THINKS about it and does it deliberately, obviously. Go for it; your life has definitely changed; may it be more for the better than for the worst, which it no doubt will.
