Freedom is Important because People are Important

Hello,

This is another blow against the practice of Fracking.

Fracking should be limited to a human/cylon activity.

--Anthony

ETA: These are timid steps forward, of course, but a government agency acknowledging the problem is an important first step to change, even if they hem and haw and shuffle about in their use of language.

Or cylon/cylon. Or human/human.

This is a good first step.

Sorry, ya missed the reference ...

But, as for the story, there does seem to be a jump to judgement here. One either believes the EPA, and the agenda of this administration, or one believes evil BIG OIL. One of them is right here, and I'm not the sort to toss out that tired old line " the truth is probably somewhere in the middle ". That's not always the case. One or t'other is right.

I know who I'd put my $ on, though.

If they'd had better pollution management practices and different fracking fluid, the only problem would be the methane. But they were in such a hurry to stake their claim on the new market that opened up that they neglected safety and ended up not being good corporate neighbors.

Now they have to clean up their act or lose the opportunity. They do it, fine, people don't get sick anymore. They don't, fine, people don't get sick anymore.

I see that frackers and their pet politicians are now saying "we don't have to do what the EPA says." I guess that's a sign that the EPA is finally getting serious.

Kinda like Boeing, saying they don't have to do what the NLRB says ? Easy for some to think that big business is always up to no good, but some how think that govt is always on the level. But it's o.k. to be suspect of the military, of course.

Uh.

Kinda distrustful of all three, really. And fracking really has been unhealthy so far, they've got to fix that.

Rap,

I confess that the reality is that I just happen to agree with the EPA in this instance and that's why I'm supporting them, but I would be attacking them if they had come out on the side of industry in this instance.

I'm sure that the industry, here, is wrong.

As for the military? They're not even trying. A lot of fear mongering about jihadists, who near as I can figure represent a lot more independence for their people than we do. If the argument were more "we have to keep pakistan safe from chinese communism" that would be a stronger argument, but those sort have been hard to make since vietnam.

I would actually support the idea of keeping commies out of pakistan. I'm less sure about religious nuts. I'm very skeptical of the idea that we need to invade iran, and extremely skeptical of the idea that nomads in baluchistan are a threat to our national security

That's what a ship is, you know - it's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs.

I think fracking is a good thing for the EPA to be against since its an issue that spans multiple states and its bad.
