Which is not to say that this story contains a questionable scientific assumption, though I think it would be wise to consider that option as always a possibility:

So, this galaxy was really cranking out the stars, which is very unexpected ?

Looking at all those galaxies, it's hard to imagine we're the only ones looking up at the skies.
