Yup, no surprise there. Crows and ravens have long been shown to be sharp as a tack. Smart animals learn how to get food easily, so they've got lots of time to play. Look at dolphins, and river otters. Never doubt how smart crows and ravens are...I know, we had a rehab raven for 14 years; sometimes she was too smart for her own good!

Neat video, thanx. And the articles linked talk about how sharp they are; right on.

Where I live crows are of the city and ravens are of the wooded places. We have lots of them where I camp. I don't see ravens in town digging through the trash and sitting on phone wires like I do crows. Plus ravens have lots of historical and mythological things about them that are very interesting. My dad and I chose ravens as our special creature too, like a totum but not exactly. So I really like them. Plus right after we chose that my little brother came along and his mom named him Raven, without any imput from us (he's adopted, we know her and knew her when he was born, but she chose his name for him. He didn't come to live with me until a few years later).

Me, I'm fond of the Crows, they tend to congregate near me anyways, leading to a certain comparison I've never much liked...

Thank you, Riona, that might well explain my prejudice too. We've got crows ALL OVER the place, but yes, I only see Ravens in the countryside, so maybe I don't get as bad an impression of them! We've got a tree down at the end of the block which everyone calls the "Crow Tree". They mass there, hang out there, nest there, and are ALWAYS around...to the point where the people across the street from them put up a sign reading: "PLEASE don't feed the crows!" I feel sorry for them!

And yes, Frem, both are rasty creatures, and their smarts get them into all kinds of shit. I happen to like that about them. Having known one up close and personal, I know just HOW MUCH shit they will get into, given the chance, and she had us laughing many times. Besides, ALL birds are rasty by nature (maybe they DID descend from raptors...), aren't they?

Funnier than hell. Naw, he was taking advantage of them being focused on one another to get a few fun "tail nips" in. Not at all surprising. Typical smart, rasty crow. The title is wrong, he was playing with them (you can hear the fight started before we see him join in).

In afghanistan, we lived behind 10-foot compound walls. Our dog was fed outside, and there were a pair of ravens who worked in tandem...one would fly down while Tammy was eating and get right next to her bowl. She take off after it and the raven would fly just ahead of her to the top of the compound wall, where he'd sit and tell her off, while the other raven would fly down and grab as much of her food as possible in his craw and fly off. She'd go back to eating, and they'd do it again, over and over. For a super-bright dog (trust me, she was), she never seemed to catch on. Crows and ravens are cool.
