Paul bests rivals in Volunteer State survey

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – 2012 Republican Presidential candidate Ron Paul easily defeated his rivals for the GOP nomination in a straw poll conducted by the Tennessee Republican Assembly.

The Tennessee Republican Assembly presidential straw poll featured in-person voting in Nashville on Saturday, January 30th.

Paul took first place with 63.3 percent of the 316 votes tallied, besting his GOP competitors – including the former House Speaker from Georgia Newt Gingrich, who placed third earning just 12 percent. Rick Santorum with 19.6 percent, Romney with 4.7 percent, and Huntsman with 1 vote, came in second, fourth, and fifth place, respectively.

“This straw poll demonstrates that tea party members and conservatives nationwide are coalescing behind one candidate, Ron Paul, as the sole challenger and conservative alternative to Mitt Romney,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton. “Ron Paul is the one candidate in this race receiving authentic conservative support from Republicans, and he also garners the support of independents and Democrats that is so necessary to defeat Barack Obama.”

Voting results

Ron Paul 63.3%
Rick Santorum 19.6%
Newt Gingrich 12%
Mitt Romney 4.7%
Jon Huntsman 0.3%

I believe in solving problems, not sharing them.

Unfortunately, it's been demonstrated that electronic voting is far too easy to tamper with, and there is evidence to show that it's already been done in previous elections. Why can't we vote like Canada? Written ballots, hand-counted.

In an informal CNN online poll, Ron Paul came out the winner. Unfortunately, the media (Fox included) won't give him reasonable coverage.

E voting is unacceptable. If its not sent in the mail or handed in then its luh suh and shouldn't count for anything, that's just the first step to all elections being rigged and controlled by TPTB.

Goodbye, kind world (George Monbiot) - In common with all those generations which have contemplated catastrophe, we appear to be incapable of understanding what confronts us.

The US and certain dictatorships are the relatively few countries that don't allow international observers during elections.

"Although the United States insists on full access by its election observers to the elections of
other countries, foreign observers are denied or granted only selective access to U.S.
elections. Observers from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe
(OSCE), who were invited to the United States in 2004, were not granted access to polling
stations in some states, and in other states, their access was limited to a few designated
polling stations. Only one of our 50 states (Missouri) allows unfettered access to polling
stations by international observers. The election laws of the other 49 states either lack any
reference to international observers or fail to include international observers in the statutory
categories of persons permitted to enter polling places."

One of the major tools of those observers is exit polling, to see how people voted. It's an independent check on the counting of said votes, to make sure all is on the up and up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electoral_fraud

Gettin' old, but still a hippie at heart...

Personally, I'm extremely grateful we don't have electronic voting in Marin and never will have. It's all too easy to rig elections as it is, and we know of many of the ways it's already happening; electronic voting makes it ten times easier, and I abhor its use.

I didn't know that about the above, Kiki, and never thought about it. It IS reprehensible that we don't do it to ourselves and I should have thought about it on my own. Thanx for mentioning it.

HERO

If we counted straw instead of actual votes Ron Paul still would lose...
