Sure you are. Otherwise you'd give us your reaction to Obama first saying that folks shouldn't bring up religion to advance a particular political position, and then bringing up religion to advance a particular political position.

That is the topic of the thread, after all.

"Keep the Shiny side up"

Actually, go back up and look. It says "Obama vs Obama : Against God, before he was for God."

Nowhere in the original post does it say what you claim. It DOES say, however, that "To base our police on God's edicts is dangerous -"

Seems to me the topic of the thread is that Obama allegedly has some issue with basing our POLICE on "God's edicts", whatever the hell that is supposed to mean. Coupled with Rappy's calling the police low-lifes and thugs in another recent post, I suppose it can only mean that Rappy has some problem with the police. It probably stems from the fact that most cops are in unions...

I never once called the police ' low life thugs' anywhere in this thread, or in any recent post.

This, along w/ the nonsense you spew on the 'embracing Christianity' crap only shows you're a complete idiot, and or a troll.

Sure it does. Just watch the videos in the original post. Obama was against citing God in support of political positions, and then cited God in support of a political position.

Did you even watch the videos?

Thanx Cav...good to hear someone else speak rationally. That's as far as I got; you know, all you have to do is scroll and, when it's like this one: "Raptor...Geezer...Kwicko...Raptor...Geezer...Kwicko...", you can then realize "ahhh, it's something argued idiotically, I needn't waste my time". If you're silly enough to think you're missing something ( ), you need only wait for the next thread, where they'll do it all over again, almost word for word.

Nonetheless, nice to hear someone else express disgust at the situation. And thanx OldEngland for

HKCAVALIER

Hey Geezer,

I didn't change the subject. I responded directly to the OP. I simply don't frame the two speeches as you do. I don't see them in contradiction. The first is about the danger of IMPOSING one set of religious values on a nation as diverse as the USA. Obama is against doing that. In the second, Obama is talking about his own, personal values. He's saying that giving to the less fortunate of the world makes good economic sense, and is consistent with his own Christian values. Where's the imposition? How am I, as a non-christian, supposed to be offended by him mentioning that his policies are consistent with what Jesus taught? Um, far as I can see, they certainly are. He's not telling anyone what to believe. But he is, no doubt, aware that a very large proportion of his audience is Christian and so he speeks in a shared idiom in order to make a point.

It creeps me out a little that right-wingers see merely "bringing up" a subject as somehow imposing some set of values on an audience. I think I get it, though. It goes back to the right-wing premise that there are no facts that everyone is obliged to accept. So, when Obama says caring for the less fortunate is consistent with what Jesus taught, y'all blow the whistle 'cause he's "telling us what is and what isn't consistent with Christian teachings!!!! MY Jesus didn't care about the poor! Obama is hurting meeeeeeee!"

That's why it's so magnificently ironic that AURaptor, the self-professed atheist, is the one whinging over this non-event.

So, saying Jesus teaching one way or another isn't simply an instance of basic reading comprehension, it's "advancing a political position." Just as bringing up the reality of racism is, in itself, racist! And promoting marriage equality is FORCING gay values on all us heterosexuals whom it doesn't touch. When reality itself becomes a "political position," any discourse is doomed. And that is the fascist agenda: to say all fact is merely opinion, so reality itself is defined by whomever is in charge.

First of all, I don't see what my beliefs have to do w/ observing Obama's double speak. It's not 'whining', by simply showing Obama for who his is.
I acknowledge the reality of today, where a politician has to do the religious song and dance, to appease the sheeple. But stating that, I still am not giddy over it. Which is why I am able to ignore one's religious leanings, as long as they keep them to themselves and have a solid grasp of the US Constitution. So, when Obama evokes bogus teachings by Jesus, as a basis for Christians to buy into his Left wing political agenda, hell yeah I'm gonna say something about it.

Just to say: I believe Obama was speaking at the annual "prayer breakfast", yes? So what's he supposed to talk about at a religious event, in your opinion? Yeah, it's timely, as are most "speeches" in churches, but does that have to make it purely political? I realize in your mind(s) it does, 'cuz anything Obama says MUST be viewed negatively, but I think this whole thread is a mischaracterization and pretty stupid...as is so often the case with stuff put up by the right to diss the left, and stuff put up by the left to diss the right. Ergo, this thread goes under the category "more partisan bullshit" and is worth no more attention.

Aw, geez, Obama's speaking at the Prayer Breakfast in the second clip? I didn't care enough to notice. Well, that ups the ante on just how idiotic this argument is. This just in: President mentions Jesus at prayer meeting! What a shocking abuse of power!

I could be wrong about that, Cav, but he just spoke at the Nationa Prayer Breakfast and the right has been attacking him about it ever since, saying he used it as an excuse to make a political point. So I don't know; I rarely watch videos in this context, but given it's been in the news the last couple of days, I'm guessing that might be the case. He mentioned how Jesus talked about caring for the poor, and they've latched onto that, among other things, as a "diss" at Republicans (especially Romney). You know how that goes...

Actually, checking YouTube, the backdrop of his speaking at the prayer breakfast is the same as in the second video posted, so I may be right. I don't particularly care, it's a silly point. You can find many videos of him speaking there on YouTube, some with titles such as "Obama misuses scripture to prosletyze tax increases" and "Obama links raising taxes to Christianity" and "Obama National Prayer Breakfast: Romney v. the Poor", and "Obama says Jesus wants us to pay more taxes", etc. Like I said, you know how it is; any words out of his mouth HAVE to be bad...

Ah...I found the exact same video, so yes, it WAS at the Prayer Breakfast. Yes, the whole point is idiotic; that surprises you exactly HOW? Sigh...

You're right. How insanely idiotic that Obama would try to piggy back his political agenda onto something Jesus allegedly said. Pretty poor taste, if you ask me.

Why ONLY Obama? Why aren't you gonna say something about it when a right-winger evokes bogus teachings by Jesus, as a basis for so-called Christians to buy into his right-wing political agenda? More to the point, why HAVEN'T you ever said something about it when that was the case? Why is it that you apply such a double standard to Obama, that if he does something which all politicians so, you'll call him on it, but you'll never call out any right-winger for such actions?

Rappy, all kinds of politicians... right wing especially... invoke the Bible to make all kinds of political and economic points (gay marriage, abortion, birth control, radical Islam, cultural values etc.) Now, if your reason for being bothered by this is because references to religion are all "bogus", are you not equally bothered when ANY politician does it? Or are you especially bothered because you think it's an effective way of framing an issue which threatens to raise your taxes?

Just because someone tries something once doesn't mean they're now part of that belief system. In high school my best friend tried casting a spell with her friend, learnt how to do it etc. (it didn't work for her). But she doesn't roll that way any more than I do, it was something she tried one time and never felt interest in trying again.

I think it would take more to become a Muslim than just going to the mosque once, I don't know the details but Islam doesn't strike me as a very simple religeon.

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) February 9, 2012

— A U.S. drone fired two missiles at a house in Pakistan's northwest tribal region, killing three suspected militants in the second such attack in as many days, Pakistani intelligence officials said.

The back-to-back strikes could be an indication the drone program is picking up steam again after a slowdown caused by tensions with Pakistan over accidental American airstrikes that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers last year.

The U.S. held off on carrying out drone strikes for over six weeks after the deadly accident on Nov. 26. There have been a handful of attacks since they resumed in January, but the last two are the first consecutive strikes since the border incident.

The house hit before dawn on Thursday was located in the main bazaar in Miran Shah, the biggest town in the North Waziristan tribal area, the country's main sanctuary for Taliban and al-Qaida militants, said Pakistani intelligence officials. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

The strike killed three suspected militants and wounded three others, but their exact identities were unknown, said the officials.

My gawd; insane, isn't it? Rap just can't wrap his head around it. Let me try to help.

The statement is that Obama is not this specific person: "a brown-skinned, anti-war socialist who helps the poor and gives away free healthcare." The whole person, okay? It's not "Obama is not brown skinned, Obama is not anti-war, Obama is not a socialist, Obama is not someone who helps the poor, Obama is not someone who gives away free healthcare". It's the PACKAGE. The whole package describes Jesus, not Obama.

Get it yet? It's a bumper sticker, for gawd's sake, put your desperation back in your pants; I'm sure you can find other threads to parade your partisan jihad if you look.
