Go to this site and see how many people in your zip code are collecting subsidies. I live in a very urbanized area and there's over a page of recipients. There's a link on the left side of the page that shows how many farm subsidy recipients are in urban areas.

Hello,

Is it possible that people who have connections to farms also live in urban areas?

Hmmm, a lot of white people getting government money in my area. Who would have thought?

Hello,

Is there a racial flag? I didn't see it.

I also notice it will list someone as getting a subsidy if they've received one at any point in the past ten years. Several people on this list appear to have been past recipients who haven't received a subsidy in some time. I wonder if some of them are people who dabbled in the farm industry and then gave it up.

Yeah, how do you know they're white ?

Subsidy Recipients 1 to 20 of 108 in zipcode xxxxx

Recipients in this zipcode received $1,050,136 from 1995-2006

What.. 1 million over 11 years ? Funny thing is, I don't recall seeing any farms in the area.

Hello,

I wondered about this. It occurred to me that not all farm owners may choose to live on the farm. That's an idea we have from Old Macdonald, but I don't think most farms work this way now. It also occurred to me that people may have owned a farm, and now no longer own a farm. I wondered about people who may be part owners of farms, and people who lease their farmland to larger farming concerns, but technically own the farm property themselves.

I imagine there are dozens of ways to have been associated with the ownership of a farm in the past ten years.

Personally, I'd prefer no Farm subsidies, but the presence of farm subsidy recipients in an urban area does not immediately denote fraud.

Seems they're broken down into 3 subsets...

Conservation, Disaster and Commodity subsidies.

I've never really thought much about it, I don't think farm subsidies bother me, but I might be persuaded otherwise since it doesn't directly affect me. Anyone want to give it a go?

Hi Kiki, I'm surprised those notes have an ethnicity section, I don't believe they should.
